America: Parents make violent threats/comments about trans teen

A group of parents in America have been making violent comments about a 12 year old trans girl.

Whatever you think about children and trans and bathrooms, this is totally unacceptable, that poor kid.

This the kind of behaviour that many people allege feminists/TERFS engage in, against trans people. Most of us know that feminists/TERFS do not do this, but this could be an opportunity to prove it.

I hope that if the chance arises, those critical of trans/gender will openly and strongly condemn such violence/threats against trans people. If you don't already.

We all know that this kind of threat is horribly common against anyone trans or gender critical. I seldom see anyone standing up for feminists who get threats from TRAs.

Let's be the opposite and make sure we denounce violence against trans people and such behaviour.

If it had happened in the UK I would suggest an open letter to make it clear this kind of thing is condemned.

I'd just like to add that most public bathrooms in America have high doors and walls. The wall and door is usually around 1 foot from the floor, making them much less private than in the UK. This obviously means that it's much easier to "peep" (for want of a better word) on someone. I think that's why America gets a bit sidetracked on the toilet issue.

Bowlofbabelfish · 16/08/2018 07:00

Then I thought 'shit this is going to be used as evidence that those who want to keep bathrooms single sex, are crazy bigots who threaten trans people'.

Gosh did you? I thought ‘poor kid, awful people making threats. how badly handled by the school’

Rather distasteful to make it political? A child is involved. This is a parenting website. Not a single person on here (and there are roughly 11 million users) would be anything other than horrified at a child receiving such threats. As the responses show.

Did you get what you wanted from this thread OP? What did you want exactly? Did you expect any other response from feminists/ parents than ‘god how awful to threaten a child what a mess.’

This is a great opportunity to actively show that we, (unlike all the people who have been silent about the abuse of feminists), are rational, kind people who condemn threats and violence. We should take this chance to openly, vocally be the opposite of what is being done to us.

Thebewilderness put it well and I quote: "I have no patience for people who insist that women must start doing what we already do every day. It stinks of concern trolling, whether it is sincere or not."

I will put it more bluntly and less politely: fuck that shit.

TerfsUp · 16/08/2018 08:37

And I quote another great post: You brought this to our attention and told us how to react. It was patronising. I don't really care what some random on Twitter thinks

My feeling about concern trolling, being patronising and telling women what they should say: fuck that shit.

KatVonSweet · 16/08/2018 09:01

Gender critical women do not threaten children or condone behaviour like that. I've never ever seen that on any of the boards or groups. Ever.

Do you ever even look at what the general population thinks of this issue? Look at the pink news survey ... says it all really.

Personally I think third gender neutral spaces should be made readily available.

Do most of you just talk on here without considering this stuff?

I show that i think bullying kids is unacceptable by not bullying kids personally.

I don't think that expecting people to 'come out against' things that they are nothing to do with, have no control over, and don't do themselves is pretty ridiculous and virtue-signalling.

Anyone who lumps feminists in with those conservative men is clearly doing it for their own agenda, and nothing a feminist says is going to make a difference, because they won't hear it, they'll just go on with their own story about what feminists say anyway.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 16/08/2018 18:46

What on earth have British feminists got to do with a bunch of American men bullying a child? Why do we have to condemn them specifically? Obviously making threats against children is wrong, but no one here has any connection to any of it. Might as well ask us to condemn any other random vile behaviour directed at anyone anywhere...

A patronising thread, OP. Not impressed.
