America: Parents make violent threats/comments about trans teen

A group of parents in America have been making violent comments about a 12 year old trans girl.

www.pinknews.co.uk/2018/08/14/transgender-castrate-child-oklahoma-parents-threaten-school/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Buffer&utm_campaign=PN

Whatever you think about children and trans and bathrooms, this is totally unacceptable, that poor kid.

This the kind of behaviour that many people allege feminists/TERFS engage in, against trans people. Most of us know that feminists/TERFS do not do this, but this could be an opportunity to prove it.

I hope that if the chance arises, those critical of trans/gender will openly and strongly condemn such violence/threats against trans people. If you don't already.

We all know that this kind of threat is horribly common against anyone trans or gender critical. I seldom see anyone standing up for feminists who get threats from TRAs.

Let's be the opposite and make sure we denounce violence against trans people and such behaviour.

If it had happened in the UK I would suggest an open letter to make it clear this kind of thing is condemned.

Yes, it comes to something when we are invited to condemn Cleetus from Buttsville

Get this into your thick skulls TRAs: 'WE aren't Steve Bannon'

Can’t read the original tweet because I am blocked despite never engaging in any GC debate on twitter. But just wanted to say to Dr Rachel Moss that yes, sadly it is a lot more likely that the kid in question is a serial killer in the making than that he is actually a girl because the latter is utterly impossible.
Obviously the abuse is totally uncalled for but it’s also unhelpful when an academic with a PhD pretends that it’s possible to change sex.

TransplantsArePlants · 15/08/2018 11:26

PeakPants

True

Hangingaroundtheportal · 15/08/2018 11:35

That 'Girl from Mars' account is just Shock

So they have screen shotted the title and then just totally misinterpreted what has been said on the thread? 😂

To be fair, that does seem to be the level of debate on Twitter these days. Just make shit up.

iamawoman · 15/08/2018 11:50

Awful for the child in question, but the school should know their population and have carried out a thorough risk assessment before putting dozens of girls privacy and dignity at risk vs validation of an identity of one male born child who has now been subjected to awful abuse. In schools there should be third spaces as this acknowledged the trans child right to be different without colluding in the notion that they have actually changed sex or that individual identity overrides the collective material reality of biological sex

Datun · 15/08/2018 11:50

Ugh, all but one of those names is male. Plus, apparently, all bar one commenter isn't even part of that school district. They are outside it, demonstrating a mob mentality.

Disgusting individuals. I outright condemn men who threaten, or pose a threat to, children.

I feel very sorry for the district supervisor who is floundering amidst it all and blaming lack of guidance.

Which is why this conversation needs to happen. In public, in the open, without delay.

Beene, the superintendent, told KFOR he has received more than 300 emails about the incident. He stressed that the school district aims to be accepting of “all populations,” but said he would be open to additional training regarding the LGBTQ community.

“I need education. We all need to be educated,” Beene said. “It’s certainly something that people didn’t deal with 20, 30 years ago.”

Completely agree. #YesDebate

TerfsUp · 15/08/2018 11:51

So, an isolated incident in a foreign country is the responsibility of those who post on this board.

Idiocy.

KittyKlaws · 15/08/2018 12:13

It goes without saying (or it should) that everyone should be free to live without the threat of abuse or violence whoever they are and I (and all the people I know on this board) would always condemn violence and violent abuse like this towards anyone but particularly a child.

Regardless of what I believe about TWAW or trans ideology as a whole I do not think it is acceptable to threaten or hurt people. I don't believe in targeting anyone for their differences (including discrimination in getting jobs, housing, education, healthcare services). Just because I am pro-women and in favour of women only spaces and am sceptical about the idea of 'gender' as a concept - I believe we should do away with it completely - doesn't mean I wish harm or hurt on anyone. Adults on both sides of the situation in the OP are in the wrong, certainly not the child themselves.

WarmWishes · 15/08/2018 12:18

The Girl from Mars twitter account is how I became interested in GC issues. She was retweeted on my timeline and I saw her screenshots of Mumsnet debates which made a lot of sense to me. So thanks for directing me to what is a board generally populated by wise and intelligent women.

TransplantsArePlants · 15/08/2018 12:21

Yes - including taking into account that a girl had complained about the child in question 'peeping' under the cubicle before and the mother writing this off as 'leaning forward when using the toilet'.

therealposieparker · 15/08/2018 12:40

Eeek. Awful definitely. Some of the things being said about that child. But really what was the school thinking?

I would imagine I would feel very strongly if my daughter was forced to share with a boy.

The boys parents and the school have been short sighted, irresponsible and ultimately misogynist. Anyone with half a brain can see no one wants their daughters to share private spaces with boys.

SnuggyBuggy · 15/08/2018 12:42

Why would you need to lean so far forward on the toilet it looks like you are peeping?

bd67th · 15/08/2018 12:44

So, an isolated incident in a foreign country is the responsibility of those who post on this board.

First rule of misogyny innit.

HotRocker · 15/08/2018 12:51

Is this the same story? Apparently the transgender girl was accused of peeping under the stall. According to their mother it’s because they lean forward to use the toilet.
www.towleroad.com/2018/08/hunting-season/
I have no idea what happened here, if pink News told me it was raining I have to go outside and check, and I have no idea who the writer of this piece is either, nor their motivations or prejudices, and the comments from the other parents are disgusting and need to be dealt with, but this whole business just outlines why letting male bodied people use female only facilities is such a terrible idea. The girls obviously feel unsafe and that their privacy is being compromised, and a transgender child is victimised by arseholes just looking for an excuse.
Also asking people who haven’t committed any violence to condemn violence is rather stupid. Judge people on their own actions and the content of their character. I wouldn’t dream of going on a Muslim messageboard and demanding condemnation for acts which a very few people commit in their name, in the very same way that I don’t demand condemnation from all the transpeople I know of people like Jess Bradley. There are people however, people I know, who would seek to excuse their behaviour because blah blah blah, so I draw my own conclusions from that

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/08/2018 12:55

Hot Rocker - it is the same story but the Washington Post has the best version so far. It seems there was a previous complaint about the child and their behaviour in the girls' toilets (even though they were supposed to have used the staff toilets).

www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2018/08/14/after-facebook-posts-threaten-12-year-old-transgender-girl-oklahoma-school-district-cancels-classes/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.bb6a23e498dd

HotRocker · 15/08/2018 13:06

Ah, thanks Spartacus. I got halfway down the first page then had to go and do something else, but remembered seeing this on Twitter, and posted before I’d read the rest of the thread.

Hangingaroundtheportal · 15/08/2018 13:11

Yep, pretty much all of those disgusting comments are coming from men. And yet somehow, we, women on a British feminist chat forum, are responsible for the abuse that this child has been subjected to?

Twas ever thus I guess.

I agree that this child is being used as a pawn by adults with an agenda. They should never have been allowed to use the girls toilets in the first place, because they are not a girl.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/08/2018 13:18

Why would you need to lean so far forward on the toilet it looks like you are peeping?

I don't think you would. But the fact that the child's mother explained away a complaint with these words makes me think that something else is going on here.

rainingcatsanddog · 15/08/2018 13:19

Trying to picture leaning forward so much that the person in the next stall thing works.

When I potty trained my sons they sat down and pointed their Willy down to pee. (I'm assuming a transperson wants to pee like the sex that they identify with.

Was his head between his legs while sat down or something? That smacks of a physical issue like severe constipation or mucking about when using the loo which could seem like peeping.

The school is negligent for not sorting out the staff bathroom. The abusive adults are negligent for being threatening. If the comments are doctored (as suggested in the Washington Post) then that person is a shit too for trying to inflame things.

StealthNinjaMum · 15/08/2018 13:20

Disgusting comments from men, obviously no feminist would have anything to say other than utter condemnation of bullying of a vulnerable child. I hope there is some kind of hate crime law in America that applies to these people.

Changing the subject - is it 177k people a month that now visit the feminist area of mumsnet? I believe this has increased significantly - probably since people started calling us bigots and others started lurking to see what the fuss was about. I wonder if the TRAs retweeting this thread will push it up to 200k a month. Maybe 250K?

DickTERFin · 15/08/2018 13:32

Male thugs violently intimidate feminine presenting male child - women to blame. And in other news, the sea is salty...

My son leans forward on the loo but there is no way anyone in an adjacent loo would know that. You would need to be virtually upside down and close to the partition for anybody to notice - so, he was peeping. Not that that justifies such vile threats but it is the school that put all those pupils in a vulnerable position and the girls in an impossible position. All of the adults involved are letting those children down, one way or another.

WarmWishes · 15/08/2018 13:35

Stealth I nervously confessed to a good friend my my gc views and GRA concerns. It turns out she was also radicalised by Mumsnet, via the Alison moyet twitter furore which led to a google and Mumsnet rabbit hole.

It's hilarious that every time a TRA condemns Mumsnet they are actually signposting people to a hub of information and adding more people to the fight against the GRA.

SnuggyBuggy · 15/08/2018 13:37

Leaning so far forward your head is that low would be very uncomfortable. That said some US toilet cubicles are knee high so maybe it's easier over there.

StealthNinjaMum · 15/08/2018 13:39

warmwishes if all our friends start talking about naice ham, pom bears and zoflora we'll know they've all been signposted by TRAs and decided to stay.
