America: Parents make violent threats/comments about trans teen

A group of parents in America have been making violent comments about a 12 year old trans girl.

Whatever you think about children and trans and bathrooms, this is totally unacceptable, that poor kid.

This the kind of behaviour that many people allege feminists/TERFS engage in, against trans people. Most of us know that feminists/TERFS do not do this, but this could be an opportunity to prove it.

I hope that if the chance arises, those critical of trans/gender will openly and strongly condemn such violence/threats against trans people. If you don't already.

We all know that this kind of threat is horribly common against anyone trans or gender critical. I seldom see anyone standing up for feminists who get threats from TRAs.

Let's be the opposite and make sure we denounce violence against trans people and such behaviour.

If it had happened in the UK I would suggest an open letter to make it clear this kind of thing is condemned.

OP posts:

Absolutely horrible comments, but why is he being allowed to use the girls bathroom?

MrsFogi · 14/08/2018 22:13

No one should ever threaten violence (maybe TRAs could take that on board too Hmm).
On the issue of a "transgirl" in a girls' space I think institutions are making the wrong call all the time and failing in their duty to girls. I would be furious if I was one of the parents. That said I would be venting my fury in a non-violent manner and without threats of violence.

Terf is an offensive term. You prevent rational discussion by using this term to insult women. Additionally this term encourages violence from certain groups against woman. Which I'm sure isn't something you want. Is it? Seeing as your post is about condemning violent behaviour. Something to think about.....

Ihuntmonsters · 14/08/2018 22:15

Looks like it was the first day at a new school and that the child had previously used a staff bathroom (possibly after an incident). Poor transfer preparations by both parents and school it seems.

TheCountryGirl · 14/08/2018 22:20

I wonder where the OP has drifted off to....

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 14/08/2018 22:29

This is another Public Service Announcement.

Ereshkigal · 14/08/2018 23:33

This whole issue needs a serious grip got on it, pronto. Accepting trans women does NOT mean accepting that they are exactly the opposite sex and should be treated exactly the same. It means providing facilities for them that meet their needs and ensuring that natal females also have facilities that meet their needs.

YY. Good points.

BarrackerBarmer · 15/08/2018 00:51

I unequivocally condemn the threats and behaviour such as that displayed by these parents towards a child.

I invite my transactivist opposites to join me in condemning all threats of violence and acts of violence.

It does not undermine either of our positions to explicitly reject such nasty attitudes and harmful intent.

Italiangreyhound · 15/08/2018 00:58

Absolutely appalling behaviour by parents. Totally chilling and I really feel for the poor child at the centre of this terrible situation. It's really shocking.

CardsforKittens · 15/08/2018 01:00

All threats of violence are shocking and outrageous, and should be widely condemned.

ChattyLion · 15/08/2018 01:04

violence is wrong, safeguarding of all children is undermined by self ID.

^^ this.

thebewilderness · 15/08/2018 01:14

Had you been paying attention, Op, you would know that we condemn threats of violence here nearly every day without being told to. Fancy that.

bd67th · 15/08/2018 01:15

This reminds me of Lucy Meadows, although fortunately with less tragic consequences. The parents in both cases should be ashamed. Wanting to retain and strengthen single-sex provisions does not justify threats to a child or hounding a qualified teacher out of their job. I wouldn't want those adults around any children, trans or otherwise.

Coyoacan · 15/08/2018 04:31

My personal main beef with the trans ideology is because I am against castration full stop and particularly the castration of children. What horrible, horrible people referring to a child like that.

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 08:33

Every single person on this thread has condemned the violent threats and abuse towards this child and any other trans person.

This is how disingenuous the Twitter take is from the usual suspects. It's not surprising they only show the title:

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 08:43

I think the construction here is that we're just as bad wanting privacy and dignity for girls as those parents are with their horrible threats to children. Quel surprise, oh look it's another day ending in Y.

WarmWishes · 15/08/2018 08:43

What coincidence this is posted here. Overnight, TRA activists across twitter are highlighting the case of a 11 year old boy transitioning to become a girl, (reported by the Manc Evening News in Feb 2017) who was shot by a pellet gun at school, is suddenly being dragged up.

The intention seems to be 1. look for people who reference the tweet without condemnation of the event, screenshot it and call them evil.

  1. Link the incident to why the strangely vague petition against conversion therapy and state that this is why it is needed. It's been used as an emotional manipulation to get people to sign the petition. No attempt to explain why the 2 things were linked. The MEN article already reports the child was supported by Stonewall and another charity that sounds like it would have been Mermaids.

Bullying happens every day in school for a multitude of reasons. I never cease to be horrified by the things my children tell me they have witnessed. It's a bit weird to be expected to call it out, since it's most people's default position to condemn bullying.

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 08:50

Very interesting despicable

WarmWishes · 15/08/2018 08:58

Eresh Lily Madigan tweets the 18 month old story then links to the petition but with no actual explanation about why the 2 things are in anyway linked.

The grim doctor does similar but screenshots someone who says, 'it was only a pellet gun.'

Obviously some kind of co-ordinated attack. I can just imagine the 'behind the scenes' planning discussion.

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 09:02

This is really useful to know, thank you. If anyone wants a primer on their sly tactics this is a great example.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/08/2018 10:39

There is a slightly different version in the Washington Post, including this little gem

www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2018/08/14/after-facebook-posts-threaten-12-year-old-transgender-girl-oklahoma-school-district-cancels-classes/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.bb6a23e498dd

"Her daughter has been identifying as a girl for years and has not had any major problems with the district in the time since, Rose said. One issue did arise, however, when a student accused the girl of “peeping” under a bathroom stall, the mother said.

“My daughter leans very far forward to use the bathroom so I can understand why someone might see her leaning forward as ‘oh my gosh she’s trying to look under the stall,'” Rose told KXII".

FruitOnAPlatter · 15/08/2018 10:49

Why members of a UK feminism board should be told to talk about it is a little beyond me.

Sound a touch like "so when are you Muslims going to condemn terrorism!!!!", doesn't it

and even that's not a fair comparison - it's 'why aren't you UK feminists condemning those homophobic violent US men' (check the screengrabs - it's almost entirely male - only a couple of ambiguous names)

ie, completely and utterly removed from our influence.

A load of men are yelling at each other, on opposing sides of an argument over women's spaces, and feminists are still getting the blame.

Men need to grow up and take responsibility for themselves, and not expect us to baby them by shielding them in our spaces, or being expected to tell them off for their appalling behaviour

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/08/2018 10:51

The Washington Post article suggests that there may have been some doctoring of what went on on FB going on (but I can't quite follow what they mean).

MyAuntyBadger · 15/08/2018 11:02

That's horrific, the poor child. Children should not be used as pawns in the TRAs game.
