Joining, pretending to be feminists and posting shitty stuff, screenshotting that stuff as proof of how 'transphobic' this forum is.

Message from MNHQ: Thanks to all who posted/reported this thread. The OP has now de-regged and we're unsure whether they're genuine or not so we thought it best to get rid.

I noticed this a few days back, but its been very obvious the past day or so, new members often posting actual transphobic things, then this being shared on twitter.

Pathetic I reckon, but they seem to think its effective Hmm

Vickyyyy this is it.

TRAs seem to have a new plan of attack on this forum
paintedwingsandgiantrings · 12/08/2018 20:19

I don't know if deregging is proof of TRA involvement in this case, you know.

I did raise my eyebrows at the thread, and prefaced my response on it with "If this is true".

But - I'm on the fence with this one.

If she really did get pissed and make a scene, and then posted on MN while still "merry" (the OP was after 2am last night) then she may well have deregged in embarrassment this morning!

If a TRA troll, why not just namechange or carry on the pretence.

I advance searched the poster and they seemed pretty genuine on their other threads.

Of course I'm not so naive to think a MN history means you're legit. I'm sure I could make a pretty good pretend TRA if I could be arsed (I can't be arsed!), having had so many arguments with them, I know what they say, as I'm sure we all do!

But - still, I'm on the fence with this one. It could be that somewhere, there's a 53 yr old ex-Mner with hangover guilts thinking - oh no what did I do?! Deleting your account to stop yourself posting while drunk sounds plausible to me.

SingeBuggerBlack · 12/08/2018 20:33

If it was true, it would have kicked off on Twitter. I mean, literal violence on open mic night? Imagine the froth

paintedwingsandgiantrings · 12/08/2018 20:35

If that 53 yr old ex-MNer is real, and if you're reading this thread - don't worry, if you're embarrassed, simply name change and come back!

I enjoyed your other threads, don't go just because you got a bit pissed!!

Vickyyyy · 12/08/2018 21:04

If it was genuine, surely you would just namechange rather than de-reg?! I have posted odd threads on here before then felt silly about it and namechanged

It surprised me when they went after Datun a few days ago - screenshotting her posts all over the place - I mean how mad is that?

Datun is one of the most eloquent posters ever - makes such very good points, and is so knowledgeable. WHy draw attention to someone who has been responsible for peak-transing half of mumsnet??

That particular twitter person seems to have come off twitter now though.

FloralBunting · 12/08/2018 21:23

I imagine it's because Datun is so influential, really. Yes, they were absolutely over reaching in targeting her, but I think they know exactly who they want to undermine and are being rather predatory. This will surprise no one paying any attention at all.

ToeToToe · 12/08/2018 21:30

Yes I think they were probably trying to get her banned - which isn't going to work, because Datun rarely, if ever, breaks the guidelines.

Ekphrasis · 12/08/2018 21:42

They went after Datun 😱?

Gosh yes she spelt many things out for me a couple of years ago. So eloquent and clear, respectful and informative, also very patient.

littlbrowndog · 12/08/2018 21:42

Datun is the best EVER

paintedwingsandgiantrings · 12/08/2018 21:47

If it was genuine, surely you would just namechange rather than de-reg?!

If she was new to the site, how would she know she can do that?

And, if you wanted to stop yourself posting when drunk, deregging would be a good solution, wouldn't it.

Also, if she's real, she's probably feeling monumentally awful today, (hangover and embarrassed) and possibly not making the most well thought-through decisions.

paintedwingsandgiantrings · 12/08/2018 21:48

Yes, Datun is brilliant :) She deserves a peak trans award.

Truthmytruth · 12/08/2018 22:07

I’ve deregged and name changed because the person out for Datun also screenshot me. On top of that I get too emotional. But when I saw Datun was being used as the person that they need to bring down, I knew the Twitter person had picked the wrong person. How could anyone not agree with Datun. Even the person who tried to expose Datun was getting targeted by her own crowd for spending too much time on mumsnet. I reckon it caused more harm to the twitter person because the attempt to put Datun down was impossible.

Datun · 12/08/2018 22:29

I agree it's not nice seeing yourself plastered all over Twitter. Thankfully I'm not even on it. But I saw what that particular person wrote about me.

Interesting that I am both a moron and a psychopathic bitch.

I read those tweets out to DH and 2 x DS who responded with OMG, he's met you?!

Such wags in the Datun household.

I don't know why they target me, specifically. Although I imagine it's largely because I haven't name changed. I'm very recognisable, because of that.

My impression of that particular person was that they were vulnerable so I stopped reading. And I don't intend to start again.

From what I can gather all it does is send more people over here. And always has.

I always wondered why TRAs left mumsnet alone for so long. I thought it was because they didn't want to draw attention to the site.

I suspect it's just because they thought, as they have said, that we were the pram pushing, jam making, second-class citizens who wouldn't have the nerve, or the brains, to object to an ideology that directly undermines us.

Now they can see that we are. But then again, so can everyone they tell.

ToeToToe · 12/08/2018 22:53

Yes, datun, I agree that was a very vulnerable individual that did that to you.

But it was also very unpleasant. It annoyed me intensely. There is also clear narcissism there - many selfies posted every day, in dresses and underwear. That person has come off twitter now, but they will be back. They have form for flouncing for a day or so.

2rebecca · 12/08/2018 22:57

Agree with Langcleg and Floral. Point new posters in the direction of threads that might help and engage politely but don't let them derail.
I think a lot of it backfires as more people are coming here both TRAs and curious women.
Many of their tactics seem silly to me. Take blocking on twitter.
If someone blocks me on twitter then I don't see their stuff but (I think) they still see my stuff. Surely that works in my favour as I'm not seeing their opinions but they're seeing mine.
If I was Jordon Peterson I might be disappointed if lots of people stopped reading my tweets but I probably wouldn't care if people with opposing views stopped lots of people seeing theirs as I gets my message to a larger audience.
I don't get why I'm supposed to be upset if I'm blocked by terfblocker as it's used by people I don't interact with much anyway. Arguments for the sake of arguments are a waste of time.

NotTerfNorCis · 12/08/2018 23:04

If that vulnerable individual is the same person I'm thinking of, they are obsessed with Mumsnet and had to apologise to their followers for putting too much MN content on their thread. They are almost certainly reading this.

LangCleg · 12/08/2018 23:12

Not being able to control what women say does seem to strike fear into an awful lot of hearts.

thebewilderness · 12/08/2018 23:20

The name for that particular style of false flag political tactic is "ratfucking."

Doyenne · 12/08/2018 23:58

Another weird post started this evening

DuckingGoodPJs · 13/08/2018 01:15

Perhaps one of the signposting threads (like Break it down for me) or one specifically created for 101 Q&A, could be pinned to the top of this forum?

thebewilderness · 13/08/2018 01:56

We have asked several times to no avail.
I for one promise to post a link to Break it down for me from now on instead of letting my curmudgeon get the better of me.

TerfAndSerf · 13/08/2018 02:13

When an obvious troll/TRA/nutter posts something, just report it asap.

Don't reply, don't humour them, don't tell them you're reporting them. Just report them.

thebewilderness · 13/08/2018 02:24

The problem with reporting is that if the person has built a history here on MN in other areas the mods will inform you it is not trolling at all and simply a difference of opinion.

SingeBuggerBlack · 13/08/2018 06:37

And sometimes it’s better for those threads to stand as evidence of what we’re dealing with.

One way to deal with the faux-innocents might be to post a polite ‘hey, just so you know, we get a lot of sealions posting here so if you get some arsey replies that might be why.’ If they’re genuine they’ll understand and it explains the situation to lurkers too, as well as letting the sea lion know we’re onto them.
