What makes men hate women so much that they could do this <trigger warning, post about sexual slavery>

I read this yesterday and haven’t been able to get it out of my head since.

What sort of man could abuse women like this? Leave them bleeding and covered in bruises and not care? She says she had up to 20 men a day for 9 months.... that’s 5,400 men (give or take)

I just can’t get my head around it.

Nor the way she was treated by the police. Or the pathetic sentence that her captures received!!!!

I read on a thread on MN a year or so ago talking about how the patriarchy tries to suppress the true extent of male violence. That news stories always talk about “perpetrators” rather than naming the problem “male violence”.

So every news story I’ve seen since that day I’ve mentally named it to myself as male violence and goodness me it’s everywhere. And you can see how news organisations, the police, the government, the patriarchy do not name the problem intentionally. How most laws are written by men for the benefit of men.

It’s like the wool has fallen from my eyes and once you see it you can’t un-see it.

How do we raise the next generation of boys and men to be different????

I read that story and wanted to start a thread about it. But it just seemed too horrible. I don't want it to have been true.
That poor poor woman.

Those absolutely sick evil men.

Horrendous.

And to be prosecuted when raided just to be reacaptured! I can't imagine how she's survived it.

Bowlofbabelfish · 09/08/2018 21:25

I read this and just despaired. All those punters knew she was trafficked surely - a woman covered in bruises? The men who drive demand for this trade need to be prosecuted.

FermatsTheorem · 09/08/2018 21:29

I read it too - absolutely horrible. And the police who fined her then sent her back to her traffickers - WTAF? Thank god she eventually found more sympathetic police in Northern Ireland.

And the punters who knew she was trafficked and didn't give a shit. Together with the level of mafia-type control over everyone around her - that her mother had to pretend she was consenting and therefore "dead to her", to avoid the threat of violence and death herself.

thebewilderness · 09/08/2018 21:43

Dworkin warned us that porn is the theory and rape the practice.
These are the ordinary punters who consider themselves nice guys who also just happen to believe that this rape torture and abuse is what women are for.

noeffingidea · 09/08/2018 21:44

I don't think it's even hate. I think it's indifference. They don't see women as human beings, just animals, or some kind of lesser thing that has no rights. Something that they can use however they want.

thenightsky · 09/08/2018 21:55

Has it always been like this? Is it getting worse or am I just noticing it more thanks to social media?

IAmALamp · 09/08/2018 22:10

Poor poor woman Flowers

Newerversion · 09/08/2018 22:13

This story is just one of so very many thousands like it, so many women trafficked and abused time after time under the name of 'prostitution'. Men who pay for sex under any guise are all enabling this to happen and people who normalise 'prostitution' are unfortunately turning a blind eye to this. There is a very good documentary called "I am Jane Doe.' which offers a further insight into how trafficking is 'turned a blind eye on' by people and how these girls are advertised openly with photos that make them seem complicit in the selling of their bodies.
I will admit that until this year I knew very little about this subject but through personal circumstances I do now.

There are charities that work to offer girls caught up in this world an exit route but these charities cannot reach so many who are being held like the woman in the article.
In answer to the question posed in the thread title, it is money, money and sheer entitledness. Those who capture and traffick these women are driven by money and those who pay to rape them are driven by their own pathetic belief that because they were born with a penis they can pay to use it in any way they please.

NotTerfNorCis · 09/08/2018 22:15

They don't see prostituted women as human beings. That's for sure.

Each of those men should have been charged with rape. The people who trafficked her should be given life sentences if caught.

GoldenWonderwall · 09/08/2018 22:24

Horrific. I cannot possibly imagine what goes through someone’s head which enables them to get sexual pleasure from raping an enslaved woman. I didn’t know ni had criminalised buying sex - good on them. The sentences that the traffickers got were absolutely pathetic though - a couple of months in prison in comparison to the 1000s they made is hardly a deterrent.

NotTerfNorCis · 09/08/2018 22:31

Just read the part about the sentences.

It doesn't add up. You'd expect a rapist to get several years for one offence. These people facilitated thousands of rapes. They should have got life.

0ccamsRazor · 09/08/2018 22:37

The sentencing of perpetrators of abuse really gets to me, it minimises the abuse of body, mind and soul that women such as the brave one in this article.

It is not justice.

It is an insult.

Don't get me started on the abuse enabling fuckwits that pay for sex.... Angry

Starlighter · 09/08/2018 22:39

Those sentences are pathetic! What was the judge thinking?! Poor woman, just horrific.

BettyDuMonde · 09/08/2018 22:40

Awful.

This is why we need the Nordic model asap.

Ereshkigal · 09/08/2018 22:41

Those sentences are pathetic!

They always are in these cases, sadly.

Absofrigginlootly · 09/08/2018 22:44

Each of those men should have been charged with rape. The people who trafficked her should be given life sentences if caught.

Yes this. Exactly this.

That’s what I meant about the patriarchy protecting itself. Laws written by men for the benefit of men.

Less than 2 years for kidnapping, salvery, imprisonment and organising and profiting from thousands of rapes of several women.

I just can’t get my head around it.

Ereshkigal · 09/08/2018 22:45

BTW, this never happened. Woke students and "sex work" organisations say it doesn't ever happen, so it can't have done.

Radardetector · 09/08/2018 22:54

Men put their own sexual gratification above female human beings. As long as they can cum who cares who she is, where she's come from and under what circumstances she is there.

It sickens me that those thousands of men that raped her, many of whom did so violently, are just normal men, walking amongst us, fathers, brothers, uncles, husbands. For the abuse of trafficked girls to go on at the level it is, it's not just a small percentage of men that are doing it.

ijustwannadance · 09/08/2018 23:10

Makes you wonder just how many people turn a blind eye when they know damn well what is happening.
Women and children constantly being abused by men.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 09/08/2018 23:30

I cannot believe how short the sentence is.

I never expect long sentences for this sort of thing, but this has surprised me.

Laws written for men, by men is right.

bd67th · 09/08/2018 23:47

She says she had up to 20 men a day for 9 months.... that’s 5,400 men (give or take)

Many of them will have been repeat rapists punters. In my mind, that makes it worse because there's no way they could go there over and over again and see the women getting thinner and not realise that they were rape slaves.

mummymermaid · 09/08/2018 23:48

"I guess nothing in this life is fair."

That made me cry... This poor woman. There's no justice.

ScienceIsTruth · 10/08/2018 00:02

It's a shame she can't set up a go fund me page to help pay for her education, As I'm sure she'd quickly raise the required amount, but I guess she needs to stay hidden.
