BBC Children In Need withdraws funding from Glasgow rape crisis centre for 'not doing enough for men and boys'

www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/16405729.glasgow-rape-crisis-has-been-forced-to-close-waiting-list-for-face-to-face-support/

This has happened to Abused Men in Scotland with funding from the Big Lottery Fund too apparently.

A worrying trend in funding being removed from single-sex services (and RCG isn't even single-sex, as they include transwomen, as they have to due to Scottish govt funding, but it's still not enough)

*There is a reminder at the bottom of the article that you can donate to your local rape centre, hopefully RCG gets a bunch of donations to allow them to open up their services to new service users again...

I’ve just donated to RCG. They do great work locally and the staff are wonderful (I knew them in a precessional capacity). I stopped donating to CiN years ago when news of the huge payments to presenters came out.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 08/08/2018 17:04

Shit that's the last time I give CIN anything. I am pissed off to think my money could have gone to them robinson

Popchyk · 08/08/2018 17:05

Mermaids doesn't do anything for children who do not identify as transgender.

Shouldn't they have their funding pulled?

LangCleg · 08/08/2018 17:09

just stop giving to these big organisations

I agree and have said this several times on here already. So many reasons to do a bit of legwork and work out who is doing reliable grass roots work on a shoestring near to you - extortionate salaries; various abuse scandals; huge reserves kept instead of being used for funding causes; pomo takeover at leadership level, leading to highly questionable funding decisions.

longtimelurkingtrans · 08/08/2018 17:11

Absolutely scandalous they are withdrawing money from the rape crisis, and the females and children that need it. Help for male victims has always been shit but lets not punish female victims twice because of it

IAmInsignificunt · 08/08/2018 17:12

Why is Children in Need interested in men?

Makes you wonder, eh?
I’m forwarding this to the PTA at the schools my children attend. No way will they want to be raising money for CIN anymore.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 08/08/2018 17:19

I've had a look at the organisations near to me that get cin funding and they are all targeted - vulnerable children, by religion, ethnicity, by sex ...(non specify men). It doesn't look like this was the reason that funding was pulled, or should every organisation by worried about future funding?

Terfnserf · 08/08/2018 17:46

Will not be donating ever again and will spread the word

riiiiight · 08/08/2018 17:49

The fact is they couldn't help most of their victims anyway, (women) because of money, that didn't bother anyone. the 100 women not receiving care is fine, deny it to 2 men and you're fucking evil.

vesuvia · 08/08/2018 17:51

How many men and boys do "Children in Need" believe have been deprived of support by Glasgow Rape Crisis centre? Are rape statistics of male rape and sexual abuse victims even available specifically for the Glasgow centre's catchment area? In other words, is the shortfall for men and boys even quantifiable?

If the centre is "not doing enough for men and boys", is it doing something or nothing? If some men and boys are being helped, presumably they will lose that support. So, "Children in Need" would seem to allegedly prefer nobody to be helped rather than some people to be helped.

I reminds me of the way that MREs (male rights extremists) prefer many women to suffer even if it means that some men also suffer, because MRE's hatred of women trumps everything else.

KataraJean · 08/08/2018 17:58

I was supported by Glasgow Rape Crisis; it gave me my life back.
I will not ever donate for CIN again.
Thank you to those donating to them directly and signing the petition.

Wanderabout · 08/08/2018 18:02

Is there any way they can challenge the decision? I am guessing BBCCinN doesn't qualify as a 'public body' that could be challenged: thewomensresourcecentre.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Making-the-case-for-women-only-July-2011.pdf

CardsforKittens · 08/08/2018 18:15

Children in Need have denied that their decision has anything to do with gender. Glasgow Rape Crisis say that information was conveyed in a phone call. I'm inclined to believe Rape Crisis.

They're no longer able to run a project helping girls aged 13-18. It's awful.

Freespeecher · 08/08/2018 21:51

I just don't understand this. If they have concerns about spreading the money between the sexes why not fund, say, prostate cancer research too rather than insisting that every project serves everyone?

Butterymuffin · 08/08/2018 21:59

Won't donate to CIN again. This is the opposite of equality.

AngryAttackKittens · 08/08/2018 22:02

This just reinforces my feeling that a lot of what we're seeing on the trans front is really about an attempt to shut down single sex services targeted at women and girls. There are a lot of people who're deeply offended by the idea of anything not being for men, and a larger group of people with a very stupid understanding of sexism that boils down to "but if we just treat everyone the same things will be perfect" and doesn't take context into account at all, and both groups want single sex services targeted at women and girls gone.

Sevendown · 08/08/2018 22:06

I won’t give to CIN again.

AngryAttackKittens · 08/08/2018 22:09

Also the charity sector in general seems to be a total mess, at least the big ones.

Bejazzled · 08/08/2018 22:16

Not one dime will go to CiN from this house.

p.s. A pp mentioned the Masons. Last week they announced that men who were previously women would be eligible to join and women who were previously men and already members would remain as members.

Italiangreyhound · 08/08/2018 22:26

I've signed and this bit really struck me.

'Given that more than 90% of all reported rapes are committed against women it would seem more appropriate for Children in Need to consider providing funding to services geared up for male survivors rather than withdrawing this award.'

I will make a donation to the Rape crisis centre in Glasgow and also write to children in need to say unless their decision to pull funding is reversed I will seriously consider never supporting them again.

They need to review who and what they are supporting and who and what they are not supporting. They will I hope hate the bad press this gives.

This is misogyny in action. If they care about men and boys, support a charity working with them. Or start one! But don't sacrifice women and girls to a misogynistic ideology. Recognising one group needs help doesn't mean we can throw the other majority group of victims out without help, what were they thinking.

theOtherPamAyres · 08/08/2018 23:28

It has taken years and years of public education, fund-raising, training, building confidence and expertise, scratching around for grants and balancing books, to build these services.

It is infuriating to hear words to the effect: "Very nice. We'll have some of that, now. We'll move in to that office over there, but give you some time to reorganise and re-orientate the service. A nice cup of tea wouldn't go amiss either".

We don't dispute that all rape victims need help and somewhere to go. It's just friggin' cheeky to assume that women's services will fill the gaps.

And in other news, the Cats Protection League criticised for unfairly discriminating against Lions and Leopards.

Want2bSupermum · 08/08/2018 23:37

My uncle worked for the BBC and always said how he hated CIN because the celebrities were paid and very few would donate their fee to the cause. The sports stars would show up and donate their time for free.

My uncle was not paid much and was asked to donate his wages for the week leading up to CIN. He said he would when those he was promoting also donated their pay in full.

buckingfrolicks · 08/08/2018 23:43

Fucking shitting bastard world. Fuck off male privilege and fuck off the trans rights agenda. And fuck off CIN.
