What is with all the thread zapping?

I can understand that this one ("DH and Jess Bradley") was iffy, and based on unsubstantiated hearsay.

But this one ("have you ever doubted your views" had been going for quite some time, was almost at 800 comments, and then zapped. When I asked around about it (I was just about to settle in and read it finally) women did not think it was 'troll hunting'.

Basically, it does not seem right to let it go to 800 then kill it. Particularly because it throws out all the work that women have put into it - a kind of devaluing women's work issue. If there was an issue with troll hunting, why didn't the mods jump in and put a stop to it? Why let it run so long (and it went for a week or so I think) then kill it?

A couple of times ive made what i thought was a completely innocuous post thats been misconstrued (or more likely i didn't explain myself very well) and ive felt ive needed to explain myself further...or defend myself!

Attack kittens, I have been using FWR for years and years the @ option is pretty new so as far as I can tell no one has decided the etiquette/protocol and people can do as they like. Just because you find it annoying doesn't mean other people will. I'm not going to trawl hours of posts in the off chance someone wrote me because some people can't be arsed to spend 5 minutes adjusting their settings.

yes, I think the world revolves around me because I use the ability to @ people, to you know, @ them. Don't be ridiculous.

A quick browse will show lots of people asking not to be @-ed. This is not something I came up with all by myself.

Also it doesn't matter that this isn't AIBU kittens because all those AIBU threads still move into my TIO list. Maybe some of you only post on FWR so you can keep track easier as they are slower moving.

I am not allowed to have an opinion on how I can post, but you're allowed an opinion on how everyone else should post? Do you not see what you are saying or what? Yes, I will continue to post as I want, I find it incredibly annoying to miss posts directed at me because some people don't know how to @ people.

Surely you must be able to edit that in your settings, so you don';t get an email? I don't think @ is poor manners or they wouldn't have given it to us an option? hmm I prefer to be atted as otherwise you miht miss that someone responded to you.

I didn't realise you could turn off that @ nonsense. I'm doing that - I absolutely hate getting emails that someone has @ed me. It feels like someone demanding that I pay attention to their opinion. So I just delete the email and refuse to look.

As the OP on this thread, I request you swim off now Turtle. You have derailed enough, you have not contributed, and you have possibly made more enemies than friends, because you won't abide by their request not to @ them when active on the thread. You will find the same thing within the feminist forum. Although you don't much like talking about feminism, more about yourself it seems.
