"Transphobic protesters" at Pride

I know this is old news now, and I'm just starting this thread as a bit of a rant (sorry) but I have just seen an article on my work intranet about "supporting the T in LGBT" and it has got me irritated.

It talks about Pride being disrupted by "transphobic protesters" but nothing at all on who they were or why they were protesting. This is in the context of an article posted by my work's LGBT+ Network.

Like I said, I don't expect to go over all the old ground again, but I just need to vent as I can't in real life.

(PS - namechanged for this as I doubt my GC views would go down well at work. I post fairly regularly on here not under this name)

Well done, Blythe.

Stonewall and Pride are having to walk the "same-sex attraction is great"/"same-sex attraction is transphobic" tightrope.

And the only way they can do it is with the words and bodies don't mean anything codswallop.

And they won't get away with that for long.

After a bloody civil war, I predict that Stonewall will become a trans-only organisation (with non-binary, gender-fluid chucked in).

And Pride will be a LGB-only organisation.

BlytheByName · 03/08/2018 21:05

That would be a job well done.
I do think Stonewall's days are numbered as the foremost LGBT charity. Let's hope whatever comes next is not a homophobic mouthpiece for the trasnscult.

I think the press just can't bothered with facts when it comes to feminism. We are all just uppity for daring to have an opinion. How dare we say "no" to people who were observed to be male the day they were born? Oh well, we do. They must learn to live with it.

Well done for doing the protest.

aaarrrggghhhh · 03/08/2018 22:02

Yesterday I received an email linking a blog post about the right wing transphobic protesters at pride. I sent an email simply explaining that they weren't - they were protesting lesbians being called transphobic for basing their sexuality on sex not internal gender etc etc

blog person wrote back VERY apologetic.

Challenge it politely and factually. Its so easy to challenge.

Same at my work OP.

The Pink News piece was posted to our LGBT allies group along with a whole lot of evil terfs rhetoric. Couldn't say anything, of course.

Both the Allies and the LGBT group itself are focussing on trans issues to the exclusion of almost everything else. We've had Stonewall speakers and training. We even got the video of the trans poet saying 'I am a woman with a penis' and our chair (a lesbian!) wibbled how inspiring it was. We had a trans woman who posted about the Hyde Park attack and said that Maria had actually got the protestor in a headlock.

Again, I felt I couldn't contradict her (this was before the court case).

Anyway, sorry to go on, I don't have much opportunity...I could say so much more but it's not my thread Blush

Thanks from me too to you brave women. I'm just so cross that your message is being misrepresented.

I will give serious consideration to challenging this thing on my intranet. Probably anonymously.

Well done Blythe

I think it will become a pivotal moment. There is a change in the air now that regular people are getting a taste of what 'transactivism' is about. We have already seen that libfem 'allies' are leaving in droves (the new misogyny in a frock, much the same as the old misogyny in trousers). Now finally, the dudes in the alphabet are starting to speak out (a bit).

Which will all end with the T, standing alone on a hill somewhere, waving around a lobster flag.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 04/08/2018 01:15

I so much admire you and your sisters, Blythe.

TransplantsArePlants · 04/08/2018 05:51

Thanks for coming on Blythe

I think I can die happy now. Julie Birchill has called us 'strong broads'.

I appreciate Birchill is like marmite, not to everyone s taste but I bloody love her.

Stilettosandan0venglove · 04/08/2018 08:22

The 8 of us did something important that day.

Blythe Yes you did. And it keeps growing because, as you say, when someone criticises what you did, they are illustrating why you needed to do it.

Stonewall and Pride are having to walk the "same-sex attraction is great"/"same-sex attraction is transphobic" tightrope.
Good summary Popchyk

Challenge it politely and factually. Its so easy to challenge.

You're right that this is the way to do it online. But honestly, it's so bloody hard with a lot of the libfems who won't even engage with a discussion.

I got blocked recently by one who simply parrotted TWAW and when I provided the requested 'evidence' (of the dangers of male fetishists, TWs in women's prisons, etc etc), told me I was a t*rf, didn't support women and that was the end of it.

I felt genuinely dismayed and weary at the end of it.
