surely no-one would ever try to manipulate a democratic public consultation, would they?

I think that goes in the same box as

'surely a speaker of the house of commons wouldn't intentionally use his position to prevent an urgent question being discussed in the house that clashes with his own personal agenda and interests?'

and

'surely a prime minister and man of supposedly normal intelligence wouldn't hold a referendum on something as serious as leaving the EU without having planned or even researched first what would happen as a result of both possible answers?'

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 18/09/2018 14:52

Can’t copy and paste, but rumours on Twitter that a six month suspension has been agreed for Bradley.@NalediSpaceLaw who have an interest in space and gender criticism.
No idea if it’s correct but wouldn’t surprise me.

It wouldn't surprise me at all. I am a student, I was involved in the NUS until recently. It's a bastion of the privileged and out of touch who not only do little for students who genuinely do need representation, but actively attack anyone who calls them out on that. Look at the stick Shakira Martin has received!

It would cause me a great deal of concern though. Firstly, because JB would be allowed to go back to work with what are often vulnerable young people who may not be aware of this 'incident'. Secondly, because it would set a precedent: what else would the NUS being willing to overlook in their quest to be woker than a very woke thing?

Was it the Manchester police who wanted to be tweeted if people were a bit upset?

South Yorkshire.

I don't want Bradley being in any kind of position of influence.

On the other hand, having a public profile will, continuously and relentlessly, be always focused on Bradley's unsuitability. It will merely highlight all the problems with the entire ideology. Daily. Every time Bradley opens their mouth.

If you are an organisation who represents young people, and you are prepared to allow someone who gets off on indecent exposure and child incest, to work for you, then you deserve everything you get.

R0wantrees · 18/09/2018 15:05

I don't want Bradley being in any kind of position of influence.

Presumably Bradley is still involved with TELI (which seemsincreasingly active on Twitter etc) and possibly Action for Trans Health?

Bradley was also on a Young Labour panel (with Lily Madigan and Eden Ladley another trans NUS officer) just before the suspension.

Bradley has close connections to other LGBT+ / Women's NUS Officers.

VickyEadie · 18/09/2018 15:08

That tweet says "sabbatical" - which usually means fully paid leave. If true, Bradley's will have had a paid year off work and then been allowed to return to work despite (alleged) gross misconduct/bringing the organisation into disrepute.

nauticant · 18/09/2018 15:13

Even if Jess Bradley steps away from the public gaze to use time and forgetting to repair their reputation there will still be dozens of Jess Bradley-alikes throughout student, young people's, and trans politics.

Let Jess Bradley remain in place as an example of what self-ID means for women's single sex spaces.

longtimelurkingtrans · 18/09/2018 15:13

I have been following Rose of Dan on twitter, She has been requesting updates and statements from the NUS and all she is getting is gas lighting and avoidance, Also rumoured that Bradley is scheduled to return to the position in January.

& presumably JB finishes their Masters / PHD etc?

You're right, there are plenty of others. And i can see your point about using JB as an example, however, he does have the influence and potential to do a great deal of harm. Unfortunately, there is little to nothing I, or other individuals can do about that. Although, I do wonder about him being able to use university facilities, because the actual university do have a duty of care to their students which, surely includes not allowing known flashers to have unfettered access.

Datun · 18/09/2018 15:47

But that's like the prison service not allowing known rapists in women's prisons...

True - but, sadly, I think people will care far more if it is 'naice' middle class kids who are endangered than some poor woman in prison.

Floisme · 19/09/2018 07:29

Good morning NUS. Any news yet?

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 22/09/2018 16:49

So are we to conclude that the NUS has agreed to hold off Bradley's disciplinary for 6 months?
Is this to ensure that Bradley's sexually deviant proclivities don't interfere with the success of Bradley's government lobbying to bring down women's legal boundaries against deviant men?

carceralfeminist · 23/09/2018 11:49

Still waiting. We are not going to forget about Jess.

BettyDuMonde · 23/09/2018 11:55

Freshers week is on. Do new trans students not have a right to know who is their active representation at the NUS?

If Bradley is suspended, will there be an interim appointment or will Trans specific issues be resubsumed back into the wider LGBT support, as things were pre Bradley?

If so, perhaps a ‘paid trans officer’ is an unnecessary waste of union funds?

R0wantrees · 23/09/2018 17:52

Eden Ladley and Rob Noon are both trans NUS officers and seem very close to Jess Bradley.

R0wantrees · 23/09/2018 17:55

Rose of Dawn with some evidence of Jess Bradley's view of the NUS President, Shakira Martin earlier this year.

Wasn't March significant with some of the NUS trustee info?

Just bumping. Any further news?

arranfan · 28/09/2018 22:51

Yes - according to the Manchester Standing for Women event (closing minutes) - Jess Bradley was out and about at the Labour conference last week.

Still feted.

birdbandit · 28/09/2018 23:05

When people ask how they can make a difference? Tell people about Jess Bradley's blog.

And if you don't want to talk to people, make a leaflet. This is the sort of info people needs to see.

Floisme · 29/09/2018 07:50

Good morning again NUS. Two months to the day since this came to light - you are clearly leaving no stone unturned in your investigation and I commend your diligence but will you be reporting back soon?

arranfan · 29/09/2018 07:51

It was Venice Allan who mentioned that Bradley was at the Labour conference.

LurkbeaLady · 30/09/2018 13:43

Does anyone have anymore info about JB being at the Labour Party Conference and what capacity?

Was he just attending or was he invited to give a talk etc?

I heard through twitter [Rose of Dawn?] that JB was serving out a suspension and going to be returning to work early in the new year.

Sorry for not so detailed info, it's been a busy week and I saw it on the train when the network was in and out...
