Cisgender women (and other people who menstruate) - The Pool

I am so fucking done with The Pool. Their articles have been getting more and more ridiculous recently but today we have this little gem

'.....after 15 years of talking to other cisgender women (and other people who menstruate) about their periods, I realise it’s all very normal'

link

Seriously, how do people come out with this utter nonsense? Do the writers on The Pool have absolutely no critical thinking skills anymore? Who do they think their target audience is, and are they determined to alienate them even further?

So sick of it

'I love Lauren Laverne, I really do, but I can definitely see her in the ‘feminist as long as it doesn’t actually upset anyone’ mould.'

Very sadly I agree with you.

I've added a reply on the Facebook post now. Someone actually refers to women as 'vagina owners' on there, that makes me want to vomit!

busybear · 01/08/2018 15:54

I have to say, I read this earlier and completely missed the word cisgender. Did it again just now.

I have noticed that the pool have started to lean towards the stylist's methodology: here's something one of our writers thought was interesting but we're not going to dig any deeper into it. Oh and also make sure we use some "on trend" reference.

I wonder if the men's magazines reference "cisgender men and other people who ejaculate" when discussing male biology.

Cunstancemarkiewicz · 01/08/2018 16:42

Yes, I remember Juno's explainy article on the Pool about being "initiated" into make-up wearing by women, and how people don't think make-up is a feminist thing, but "it is", as women have sat around the campfire discussing it for all eternity they really haven't, Juno, what they discuss around the campfire is how to keep safe from creepy men

I have no time for The Pool anymore, I find it fluffy and airheaded. Which is a shame as it started off well. Comments on FB are depressing.

I would be annoyed too, to find "cisgender" in an article on perimenopause. I'm going through that particular delight at the moment and recently bled unexpectedly all over my clothes at work, having to dash to the loo, handwash my dress and wear damp clothes for the rest of the day. I can confidently state that that has never happened to any of my male colleagues. Ever. So *&^% off with your "cis" because my experience is exactly that same as that of my mother, grandmother, and all the women who came before. No need for a new word, mate.

QuietNinjaTardis · 01/08/2018 17:27

Ooh I commented on the pools post. I replied saying that I’m not cis anything, I’m a woman etc.

AWomanIsAnAdultHumanFemale · 01/08/2018 17:34

Me too quiet

Lots of ignorance being spouted on the comments section.

One person has actually said “being a woman is literally a gender” Hmm

Lottapianos · 01/08/2018 17:37

'One person has actually said “being a woman is literally a gender” '

That person is LITERALLY a muppet

I posted that im not a cis woman, I'm a woman, and I had three angry faces in response. Angry faces!!! For stating biological fact. It would be funny if it wasn't so scary

This is so in line with Cancer research rewriting literature to read People who have a cervix ....Well at a time when take up is so poor using phrases that avoid stating 'all women need to have a smear' is ludicrous. Many women with poor language skills, with learning disabilities etc wouldn't recognise the word cervix. But hey as long as we're pandering to the strident minority - we'll that's OK then? Angry

AWomanIsAnAdultHumanFemale · 01/08/2018 17:44

Genuine question: are people really that stupid or do they just really really want to believe what they’re saying?

Racecardriver · 01/08/2018 18:30

I I followed the pool a long time ago. Seems to be written by a bunch of airheads.

MrsJamin · 01/08/2018 19:20

They adore juno Dawson, I watched a live q & a when juno was on the line-up, it was so annoying to see juno take the place of a woman. They made a joke about cervical smears and I wish I had screenshotted juno's face! It was that one where you look like you're in a joke but you know and everyone else knows you haven't got a clue because you, you know, don't have the lived experience of a woman! This angered me too this morning, all the handmaidens falling over themselves to be more liberal than the one before them. You know what is bloody liberal is to include women who aren't typically performing women to be included as women rather than make them feel like a weird version of a man. I feel so sorry for "transmen" - they've been told by society that they can't possibly be a woman due to how they act, what they do for a living, how they want to dress, when they are women and should be celebrated as such. Shame on you, The Pool. I hope they are listening.

Shock horror, another example of Mumsnet tolerating the c-word from people who claim to feel threatened by it. That's not really a ban, is it, Mumsnet?

GirlDownUnder · 03/08/2018 09:22

Hahahaha not threatened by a word. It’s useless and superfluous and inaccurate.

It’s not banned as in ‘never ever use the word’ eg the n word, it can be used in discussion eg this thread
It’s banned as do not use it to a person eg you’re a cis woman get over it

K?

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 03/08/2018 09:32

VanillaRose try to keep up, sweetie. It's about context. So slowly, one more time. Women object to being told we are to add a modifier to the noun which describes us. A word that not only others us but suggests that we somehow actively align with stereotypical gender roles.

We don't grab the smelling salts because these 3 letters have some terrifying property in and of themselves. We aren't the knights who say ni!
