Or Action for Trans Health, who have advised the government, provided NHS training, & want free sex-change hormones on demand for kids, the immediate release of all trans prisoners, & the abolition of birth certificates.

From George's link - the idea of ginger up the bum was bad enough, but this?

"According to some, the insertion of ginger root into the anus or vagina can lead to longer and stronger orgasms. But does it count as one of my five a day?"

(Runs away screaming)

ligma · 25/07/2018 06:57

because the surgery is insanely expensive

BertrandRussell · 25/07/2018 07:22

I can quite understand why people wouldn't embark on extensive, expensive, painful and still, let's face it, experimental surgery. What I can't understand is then saying that their penis is a female sex organ.

Datun · 25/07/2018 07:39

because the surgery is insanely expensive

It's free in the UK.

SophoclesTheFox · 25/07/2018 07:39

Yes ligma, we heard you the first time, and I'm sure you're right.

But as Bertrand says, that's not the whole story, is it?

SophoclesTheFox · 25/07/2018 07:42

Not sure if that's 100% true, datun, is it?

Perhaps with a diagnosis of dysphoria. But most trans people still don't actively seek it, as I understand it - NHS or otherwise.

There's massively more breast implants and FFS than genital surgery, though they all tend to get rolled up into the same stats.

Bowlofbabelfish · 25/07/2018 07:43

because the surgery is insanely expensive

Why would you be paying?

Have we seen off all the British MRAs? Grin that’s rather heartening isn’t it? Numbers must be low.

AngryAttackKittens · 25/07/2018 08:05

Have we seen off all the British MRAs?

Maybe they work in shifts (the comments section on any mainstream media article about feminism being the day shift)?

Bowlofbabelfish · 25/07/2018 08:08

AAK Grin

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 25/07/2018 08:10

Yes, the surgery might be expensive but so is facial feminisation, if not more so, and it seems there are trans women who prefer facial feminisation surgery.

Datun · 25/07/2018 08:17

SophoclesTheFox

This is what the NHS offers, which seems to be pretty comprehensive.

I can't quite work out if breast implants are free, though. Although hormones to create breasts seem to be.

And yes, you'd have to have a diagnosis before you get treated. The same as anything else on the NHS.

But the point is claiming people don't get the surgery because it's too expensive, doesn't really wash in the UK. It's far more of an American problem and whether or not your insurance covers it.

SophoclesTheFox · 25/07/2018 08:23

fair point. I imagine seeking hormones is way more common than surgery.

“What was terrifying wasn’t the make-up or the drag, the padded lace bras, that monstrous red satin corselet or the way he tried to strap his balls away between his legs (no wonder when he wore high heels he walked so oddly).
No, what was so chilling was Toby’s mincing, simpering, obviously totally sincere mimicry of what he thought a woman was - deep down - really like. It was a travesty, an insult to her sex, and that was what Kate, who had never heard the word “transvestite” found so shocking.”

Reading this the thread, I was reminded of the above extract from Lace, written in 1982. Toby appears to have AGP and has no intention of further transforming into a woman other than wearing clothes and makeup.

Also, will nobody think of the horses? I'll never be able to watch dressage again.

Bumbungo · 25/07/2018 09:58

I thought the fish finger thread was bad enough, now we are on ginger and horses' anuses?

I'm wit you on avoiding the stir fries George

AngryAttackKittens · 25/07/2018 10:00

So you haven't seen the AIBU thread where the lovely Tomasz is offering to dine and wines us yet then.

Bumbungo · 25/07/2018 10:11

No.......

Scared to ask

Ok, what's that about then?

Bumbungo · 25/07/2018 10:23

Ha ha. Wine, dine and strong penis. What more can a man offer a girl?

R0wantrees · 25/07/2018 10:28

There was an NHS England & Scotland recently published:

'Analysis of public consultation on
proposed service specifications for
specialised Gender Identity Services
for Adults'

www.engage.england.nhs.uk/survey/gender-identity-services-for-adults/user_uploads/report-independent-analysis-consultation-responses-gender-identity-service-specifications.pdf

thread:

This will be relevent to future health care provision

Poppyred85 · 25/07/2018 15:59

I came across my area’s commissioning policy for surgery for GD recently while looking for the policy on something else. It made quite interesting reading. While genital surgery is funded when considered a necessary treatment for an individual’s dysphoria, breast augmentation, FFS or surgery to reduce the appearance of the adsm’s apple is not. Hair removal treatments are funded, but apparently limited to areas of the face where it is strictly necessary- presumably beard area for transwomen. Shame they don’t offer that treatment to women with PCOS who I’ve known to suffer significant dysphoria from their ‘male pattern’ hair growth.

Ereshkigal · 25/07/2018 18:33

Interestingly the Specialist Commissioning Group for NHS England for Women and Children also covers Adult Gender Identity services.

Ereshkigal · 25/07/2018 18:34

As in they are all lumped together.

How is that not sex discrimination?
