And Bowl we definitely need a birth announcement! Please be sure to include whether your little one has been assigned male or female at birth. :) (Unless you already know! LOL!)

Hoping your last few weeks are as pleasant (ha!) as possible...Gotta love the biology, right?

We care!!!

Datun · 24/07/2018 13:31

Hmm...this is a good one to mull over. Why is it so creepy?

Because autogynephilia relies on the degradation of women. And when you see that degredation being transmitted through the medium of clothes, it's creepy as fuck.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 24/07/2018 13:49

George, i think the difference between the rock gods of the 70s and 80s and the AGPs/cross dressers of today is that men like Marc Bolan weren't fetishising or degrading women. They presented as men, just in eyeliner.

There was also a celebration of male beauty that did actually challenge stereotypes, unlike the regressive ideas behind today's gender bollocks.

It feels creepy because our brains are subconsciously processing that we are prey in the presence of a predator.

Lancelottie · 24/07/2018 14:38

No problem at all, LangCleg. I knew what you meant. I'd just rather not offer any more ammo to those who think that womanning is done with your feelings rather than your body.

Snappity · 24/07/2018 15:00

This sort of thing is really offensive. It turns the rest of us into unwilling participants in the couple's exhibitionism and other kinks.

Strange. I thought the gender critical approach supported being gender non-conformist? Or is it that non-conformity is OK so long as it isn't noticeable?

FloralBunting · 24/07/2018 15:04

Snappity, hun, are you really so naive that you don't know the difference between a male bodied individual in a feminine outfit, and a grown man dressed as a clichéd kink sissy?

EmpressWeaponisedClitoris · 24/07/2018 15:07

Well, they're both under the trans umbrella, FloralBunting.

We have a hetero couple in our very small town who I often see out and about. Maybe early 30s. He’s about 6 foot and wears short girly dresses, wedge sandals, and has his hair dyed pink and usually worn in high bunches associated with 6/7yo girls. She is super short, short hair, piercings, and dresses in a masculine way. I’m sure they probably think they are lesbians. I mostly see them at the supermarket. He giggles, simpers, flaps, and draws attention to himself by the performance, not just the dress.
At 47, if I dressed like him, and wore my hair like him, I’d get a few ‘mutton’ glances. If I behaved like him, I’d never have to queue at the checkout again, because the crowds would part like I was Moses.
I see them a lot. It’s a small place. I still can’t work out if he thinks he passes. But every time, I think of Travis Alabanza’s faux complaint about getting attention, while dressed deliberately to draw attention.
Truthfully though, it’s the mannerisms that boil my piss. Is that REALLY what you think women are like? Makes me stabby.

Lancelottie · 24/07/2018 15:17

Sounds like one of the PowerPuff Girls, actually, BlackDog.

I'm starting to think that DS is right and cartoon/anime/manga has a lot to answer for.

LangCleg · 24/07/2018 15:46

EXACTLY. Like I say, if you can't tell the difference between gender non-conformity and a weirdo who sets your spidey senses tingling, the chances are you are not a woman. And you're certainly not someone who should be policing women's reactions.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 24/07/2018 16:05

Boy George was gender non conforming. Stefonknee Wolscht is creepy as fuck. HTH.

EmpressWeaponisedClitoris · 24/07/2018 16:29

Eddie Izzard used to be gender non conforming when he was a self-defined "man in a dress".

Now he says that his tastes in nail polish & heels come from his "girl genes" he's as creepy as fuck.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/07/2018 16:37

Strange. I thought the gender critical approach supported being gender non-conformist? Or is it that non-conformity is OK so long as it isn't noticeable? Bless you, Snappity.

If we all ignored DHs cross dressing builder mae he'd sulk for days. You can't not notice a burly ex hod carrier in a flimsy summer dress and builders boots, especially when the dress is his only feminine choice de jour. Having said that he does look more startling when he applies make up... but we've known him for 30+ years. Yes, he is less attractive these days, middle aged spread and all, but he has never cross-dressed to try and 'pass', he has always doone it because, in his words he "gets off on it".

Your faux outrage only works on people who live very closeted lives (pardon the old fashioned pun) who have never met a proper 'tranny'.

I used to love Eddie Izzard. I saw him a number of times in London during the 90s, including when he played his long stint at the Shaftesbury theatre doing his superb 'Definite Article' show.

Now, he talks mostly shite. "Girl genes", forsooth.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/07/2018 16:40

Yes. From "That's not a woman's dress, that's my dress, I bought it!" to feeling empowered at scaring the shot out of teenage girls in a public loo... I am ashamed to say I tried to forgive him cos I used to find him very, very funny. But he is, as you said, creepy as fuck now!

SunsetBeetch · 24/07/2018 16:55

I saw this astonishing thread by a trans activist someone I follow in twitter posted, and thought of this thread.

blackdoggotmytongueagain · 24/07/2018 17:13

Yeah nomi doesn’t grasp irony. Don’t signal you are a woman when you are not. It might allow you to access women’s spaces and make them uncomfortable.
No ability to grasp that is EXACTLY women’s problem with men ‘signalling’ that they are women when they are not. Done deliberately to enter women’s spaces.
I’m curious about all these afab folk infiltrating trans with nefarious intent.
Or is it a parody and nomi totally gets it? So hard to tell if someone is being ironic without context...

LangCleg · 24/07/2018 17:24

WTAF?

bluescreen · 24/07/2018 17:25

Agreed, Curious. There was a time when I was willing to believe the teenage girls might have been horribly unkind to him and the poor thing was just retaliating. My sympathies have since shifted, even if the girls were challenging him in an, um, unsympathetic manner. He had no business being in the Validation Booth* in the first place.

Love that! Thanks, OtherPam*

Bowlofbabelfish · 24/07/2018 17:29

Remind me what afab and amab are?

🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s like listening to preschoolers make up language. Except less charming

Wow, from that twitter thread, 2 things stood out like beacons..

this isn't just about discomfort though. lgbt people often have plenty of safety related reasons to establish boundaries along lgbt lines

and

respect our need for boundaries

Interesting, eh? Womens boundaries are to be broken down and ignored, however transwomens boundaries are to be respected?
