Bullied out

No links to sites I'd want to drive traffic to but info on Twitter etc.

Maybe the film won't be made.

Are there any transman actors with any box office pull at all?

The only one I can think of is Chaz Bono, but certainly not the same box office pull as ScarJo.

NotTerfNorCis · 14/07/2018 00:36

Actually Chaz bears a resemblance to Tex Gill. But Tex Gill didn't have a beard.

foxyliz26 · 14/07/2018 00:48

Apparently it will be Ian Harvie playing the role , I have been reliably informed by one of my work colleagues ,who knows all the gossip

Casting a woman to play the part of a woman? Shocking.

SPOFS · 14/07/2018 01:21

I doubt the film will even be made now. ScarJo was the profit puller.

LighthouseSouth · 14/07/2018 02:00

I know I'm repeating myself but I do keep hearing that Shakespeare In Love line "that woman IS A WOMAN!" Grin

In a few articles including a Jezebel one, all of the people contacted about the story and complaining that they were not asked to audition were transwomen. Lately I've started to get quite annoyed on behalf of transmen, going entirely by media representation you;d hardly know they exist, even in a story which is to do with them!

ChattyLion · 14/07/2018 04:26

Unless the people attacking ScarJo are saying that trans people can ONLY act parts portraying other trans people, -which I’m sure is NOT what they are arguing then this is not a great argument from an creative or artistic perspective.

Previous discussion of this here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3297433-Trans-actors-are-assuming-Scarlet-Johanssons-gender-identity

From a historical accuracy or from a women’s rights based perspective, this harassment of an actress absolutely stinks. This historical figure was NOT trans.
This was a BUTCH WOMAN. A LESBIAN WOMAN.

This latest trans-normative misogynistic authoritarian harassment is about forcing the active erasure of butch lesbian history.

EeveePHD · 14/07/2018 04:31

I would have liked to have seen what she brought to the table. The argument was silly. She's an actress and history has shown a long line of women playing men's roles since the early days of theater and film.

That has been one group of TRAs position every time someone is cast to play a person they deem trans, whether the character is or not.
That a transgender should be cast.
Oddly enough they have no problem with transgenders playing women or men. Just seem to be deeply offended by women or men being cast to play transgenders, Gays, or Lesbians.

TransplantsArePlants · 14/07/2018 05:39

The character wasn't trans

She was a lesbian woman

TransplantsArePlants · 14/07/2018 05:41

It upset the TRAs activists to think we'd all realise someone was 'pretending' to be a woman

So they have to re-write history and say that woman was 'trans'

NotMeOhNo · 14/07/2018 05:45

Just heard it reported on radio news - described as a "transgender man".

Shameful.

TransplantsArePlants · 14/07/2018 05:49

Pretending for financial gain?
Pretending for career advancement?
Pretending for psychological comfort?
Pretending for sexual gratification?

What they are saying it that it's none of our business which of these it is.

TransplantsArePlants · 14/07/2018 05:54

And yes, God forbid that a lesbian woman be a lesbian woman, trying to get a leg up in a man's world. So they re-write history: she was trans. Such utter nonsense.

TransplantsArePlants · 14/07/2018 05:57

Re-writing history

Current thread; in case you miss it

GoldenBuns · 14/07/2018 09:31

I think this is good in a way. It draws attention from people who might be less aware, to the craziness of the situation. A Rolling Stone article on this popped up on my Facebook feed - the comments on it were almost all WTF?

Cwenthryth · 14/07/2018 10:10

Lea DeLaria would be perfect for this roll. In modern terminology she’s a butch lesbian; who better to play a masculine-presenting female-bodied person.

Cwenthryth · 14/07/2018 10:10

*role not roll. I’m hungry now tho.

Mogleflop · 14/07/2018 10:14

Of course, sillies!

Any woman who acted like a man historically (no matter what the context) was obviously really a man inside.

Any woman who looked like a man was probably a man.

Any woman who achieved anything probably had a male brain if you think about it, ours aren't up to much.

Elizabeth 1st said she had the heart of a man! She meant brain, the ditzy schoolgirl.

It's our job to look pretty, have babies, and be attractive to the men.

I saw a production of King Lear last year which had a female Lear. In fact all the cast were female. At the end, the sky fell in
