What's wrong with fighting for the third space?

DJLippy · 09/07/2018 22:22

Can't we resolve all these Trans vs feminist issues with a third space option?

Male/Female as well as unisex intimate spaces
Unisex for those who do not mind (or don't want to wait ages for the bog!) But M/F spaces respect those who have religious reasons for intimate spaces away from the opposite sex and also people who need these spaces because of trauma.

Prison's for transgender folk who feel threatened in male spaces.
Nobody should be at risk from sexual violence

Domestic violence and rape crisis support services for transwomen.
Don't trans folk deserve specialist services? If I was a victim of assault I would want people who understood me to provide support

This is all I want and I am sure many women on this sight feel the same. Is this a valid working compromise?

I used to see GNC men and think, there goes a possible friend, I should have a chat with him and see if we hit it off. Now I find myself thinking, does he think he has a ladybrain, and if so just how appallingly sexist is his explanation of how that works going to be? I'm not happy about this at all. The old kind of GNC men still exist, and I still know a few, but with randoms I have to filter for sanity and empathy towards women in a way that I didn't until about 5 or 10 years ago, and that's not fun for either me or the sane, nice GNC men.

Maybe we create a secret handshake for "I'm totally cool with androgyny, gender roles are stupid and we should ignore them rather than worshipping them and enshrining them via legislation".

Is snappity going to tell us how we socially construct a uterus?
And what bilogical similarities Trans women have with us and why they want something when people so obviously don't relieve in it as it's having to be forcefully obtained

AngryAttackKittens · 10/07/2018 09:56

I might be somewhat more patient with this nonsense if I wasn't currently bleeding out of my social construct.

LangCleg · 10/07/2018 10:03

This is the pincer the T movement has put both the LGB and feminists in: either they erase us, or the coming backlash will, as they’ve tied us to them. That’s why visible protest and distancing us so important. You’re right, there’s no way genderism ends pretty. The medical violence done to children, the farce of women’s sport, the ridiculous pageantry of the AGPs, the certain violence that will occur in women’s spaces — the anger of parents, the children grown into desexed adults, the cheated female athletes, the furious fathers of daughters — no, this is going to blow up. Feminists and the LGB need to be clearly seen to be severed from the T when that happens

Yes. The TRAs are currently calling us the right wing backlash. And I honestly think that they are so clueless they actually believe it. When the right wing backlash does come - and if these fools aren't stopped, it will come - they'll wish they'd come to an accommodation with parents and feminists. They won't know what's hit them.

And yes, that right wing backlash will certainly take out the LGB with it. It won't be pretty for women either.

We were asked (university) to do an audit of the loos to see which could become gender neutral.

The criterion was "don't contain urinals". That'll be the Ladies then...

AngryAttackKittens · 10/07/2018 10:05

Is snappity going to tell us how we socially construct a uterus?

Maybe that's what Jane Fae is always knitting.

Mossandclover · 10/07/2018 10:06

Snappity are you suggesting it is ok to discriminate on the basis of (artificial) breasts but not on the basis of penises?

(Trans women do not have a female frame, it is one of the things that makes then so easy to identify as they hold themselves and walk differently due to their male frame)

GirlDownUnder · 10/07/2018 10:08

I think Snappity finally snapped?!

C’mon who broke them?

But the gents already caters for mixed sex, cubicles and urinals. No alteration necessary.

Snappity · 10/07/2018 10:13

I'm confused. I thought you said that sex was a construct or a figment of a rad fem imagination or something. So why can't urinals be gender (or sex) neutral?

No, I said that adding the word "biological" to the Equality Act is an invention. The word is sex, not biological sex.

Snappity · 10/07/2018 10:16

But the gents already caters for mixed sex, cubicles and urinals. No alteration necessary.

Then you will happily use the gents? If not, why should trans women? Their womanhood is just as valid. It is why the gender critical position is anti-trans because it it is based on denying that trans women are women.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/07/2018 10:17

Whatever you call or define it why can't urinals be gender (or sex) neutral according to your own definitions? On page three you seemed to suggest that they can't be.

Pythagonal · 10/07/2018 10:18

When did stop getting everyone to read 1984 in schools?

At the same time they stopped English Comprehension lessons, apparently.

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/07/2018 10:18

What do you think sex is if not biological Confused

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/07/2018 10:19

And if they are women them what are they transitioning from?

"Their womanhood is just as valid."

Oh come on Snappity, you can't have typed that with a straight face.

LemonJello · 10/07/2018 10:27

Snappily does agree that women who have issues sharing with transwomen should be entitled to segregated spaces.

FloralBunting · 10/07/2018 10:29

I actually agree with Snappity. We shouldn't say 'biological sex', we should say sex.
Unfortunately, the reason we now add a qualifier is because of this persistent word play that has people like Snappity using the word 'sex' as a fantasy denominator that means something entirely different to what the word has always been understood to mean.
Because obviously, Snappity can't argue that the law allows for sex exemptions, and Snappity knows the only way to overcome that is to claim that sex means something other than the biological characteristics of each class of reproductive capacity.
