And apparently, later in the thread, the reason we don't talk about transmen as much as transwomen is that feminism is not about the men.

JFC my head hurts.

But over 21k likes!

Mostly bot-bought?

LaSqrrl · 09/07/2018 08:39

But hey, never mind about the real violence going on in labour wards. Let's talk about some made up nonsense instead.

Ah yes, that old 'qualified medical observation and paperwork' thingy, ever so 'literal violence'.

TRAs, you sound like dickweeds with the 'coercively assigned' bullshit. Nice peak transing of the regular population though, well done!

Does anyone subscribe to the New Scientist? I receive regular emails from them about articles, and one the other day began:

"How to think about… Gender
"At first it seems straightforward. After a brief inspection of its genitals, a baby is assigned a gender. But look more closely, and this simple idea begins to unravel.

"Society thinks men are more active than women, and women are better talkers, for example – but biology suggests there is no clear distinction between male and female brains. How much of our gender identity is related nature or nurture?"

Very disappointing to see a publication like the New Scientist talking about a baby being "assigned" a gender! I clicked through, and the first few paras looked a bit more sensible, but I couldn't read the rest of the article.

totally agree Bowlofbabelfish Intersex conditions say nothing about being transgender. Thanks for making this clearer

Good, does that mean we will hear no more from you co-opting intersex conditions for transgender political point? Because that would be swell.

starcrossedseahorse · 09/07/2018 08:45

Twitter at the moment is a cesspit of hatred for women being paraded around like a badge of honour.
There are too many people who believe this crap. We must challenge wherever we can.

We are under threat from this cult-like ideology and we must fight back.

53rdWay · 09/07/2018 08:47

Indeed Ofew. Takes a particularly special attitude to look at women’s issues around medical treatment in childbirth and decide that the really coercive and violent bit is when the midwife sees a penis and says “boy”.

LaSqrrl · 09/07/2018 08:50

Awww look, I screencapped it. So bespin cannot change their mind on the intersex co-opting thing.

Locked you down lovey!
So do please make a note somewhere not to appropriate intersex again.

Bowlofbabelfish · 09/07/2018 08:50

I’m a new scientist subscriber- will be responding to that one when I feel up to it ...

Howyoualldoworkme · 09/07/2018 08:51

FFS, do these self obsessed ninnies wake up in the morning and think "What outrageous statement can I say today to make it more about MEEEEEE?"
Get off bloody Twitter and go do some useful work!

Bowlofbabelfish · 09/07/2018 09:01

Well exactly - women who have had procedures done without consent or against consent, denied pain relief, had their pelvises broken during birth, who have been cut and stitched with zero pain relief (not even a pudendal block) - they can talk about obstetric violence.

Noting down that the resulting infant is a boy is not a violent procedure.

ijustwannadance · 09/07/2018 09:09

I knew my DD's SEX at 10 weeks pregnant. Way before genitals were observed.

SEX cannot be changed.

Best thing to to is dress all kids in black, shave their heads, give them only neutral, wooden, educational toys and once they reach 16 they can then choose either a pink dress and long hair or a blue suit and short hair?

Dhalandchips · 09/07/2018 09:14

Holy fuckbiscuits.

stillathing · 09/07/2018 09:25

it is so sad and frustrating that we can't just all agree that abolishing gender stereotypes (and remembering that sex is not gender) would be good for everyone.

Oliversmumsarmy · 09/07/2018 09:45

How does Coercively and violently assigned male at birth look

If it is a boy does the midwife scream and throw things around and attack an assisting nurse beating her to a pulp before shouting it's a boy in a blood curdling manner.

Or on first sight of the genitalia announce its a boy.

I think someone has disappeared up their own genitalia.

Wherismymind · 09/07/2018 09:47

Sex is categorised at birth just like weight and time of birth and any defects.
If it cant be an untrosound and chromosome test is carried out to clarify the sex. (this happened to my ds)

Sex is simply a way of saying which part of the species reproductive group the child falls into.

Parents, peers and society influence the gender. The sex is a constant.

It's like saying, my mum saying I have brown eyes at birth was violent as I now wear blue contact.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/07/2018 09:53

I knew my DDs sex before she was born because I had an amino so they'd looked at her chromosomes.

I hadn't got round to reading this week's New Scientist yet but the piece wasn't conflating sex and gender. It's talking about gender in the context of nature v nurture. E.g how much of men's supposed talent for engineering is down to biological factors ... and how much is due to societal conditioning? And about how mothers engage male babies in more physical activity than girls, which affects the development of the nervous system.

Our sex is noted at birth but it actually is true that most babies are to greater or lesser extents assigned a gender. (It's arguable that families who have 'gender reveal' parties truly are liable to be stamping gender on their hapless unborn). Observed to be male and therefore assigned to be masculine.

Bespin · 09/07/2018 09:53

thanks LaSqrrl your like my personal assistant my memory Is not what it used to be. but to. my knowledge I have never done that and never will as I am a big supporter of people with intersex conditions and there fight to be recognised. but do add that to your database lol

ErrolTheDragon · 09/07/2018 10:01

Sorry, my previous post was a bit unclear - I'd not read the NS piece previously but quickly did so when I saw it mentioned.

Ilikelotsofthinngs · 09/07/2018 10:02

Does anyone else ever get the feeling this whole thing is just a massive exercise in trolling?
I mean some of these people just cannot be real.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 09/07/2018 10:06

I'm just astonished that people who are so aggressively entitled and often so aggressive can also be such fucking snowflakes. If they were women, centuries of staunch, brave and hard-working women would be spinning in their graves like hamsters on speed.

QuinionsRainbow · 09/07/2018 10:11

Transwomen were 'coercively and violently' assigned male at birth

Probably missing the point, and no doubt setting myself up to be flamed, but how and when were their dicks attached?

Moonkissedlegs · 09/07/2018 10:13

I'm just astonished that people who are so aggressively entitled and often so aggressive can also be such fucking snowflakes.

Yes, this sums up a lot of trans activists so well!

drwitch · 09/07/2018 10:16

Problem is that they are half right - gender is assigned/imposed at birth based on biological sex which is observed

Waddlelikeapenguin · 09/07/2018 10:24

How do you violently assign sex? Throw the babies into pink or blue boxes?!?!
