I live in japan. i would say has its own issues about many things but, what i do love about it is the female only spaces.
onsen.
You get butt naked and sit in very big often very beautiful baths the size of swimming pools and chat to your friends.
The sauna is naked too. you can take a towel if you want though!
There is no way a penis owner would be allowed anywhere near these spaces unless they are under 5.

Womens only spaces are so lovely. One of the saddest thing about the GRA debate is that this new generation of women is going to have less and less chance to experience it and they will never even understand what they have lost.

Two spaces for me:

  1. River swims. Not official spaces, it's just something I've always done with other women. Occasionally nude, mostly not (depends on how far away you are from people). The great thing is you don't have to wait for one near you. Wait for warm weather, invite some women for a swim, have a float and a chat. It's wonderful.
  1. Spinning/weaving/crafting groups. They're not explicitly women only but they always seem to be and it's great to learn from the older generations about life and experience and community, as well as knitting and baking and what-have-you. A seriously under valued resource. I recommended it to a friend my age and she blew it off, she didn't believe that a group of older women could be great company or have valuable insight and information. It made me really sad that we're losing so much female-capital (for want of a better word) that has been built up because of the impression young people have. Even the most rural and conservative women in the group have been through the ringer more times than I've been around the sun and while they might not call themselves feminists they have a sort of hard earned empirical feminism that all young women would benefit from.

Our large ( local authority pool) has amazing sauna/bath suites.
Segregated by sex ( I am sure the male one is lovely too)

Saunas, Turkish plunge pools, huge open rain showers, women all wander around naked with ease, the wet area leads onto a lounge area with lounge beds, a small ( female staffed) counter serves teas, herbal or otherwise and light healthy snacks.
The whole facility looks out onto a Japanese style garden with Bamboo. and oriental plants. It all feels so relaxing.

£6 a session!
