It gives me great sadness to write this post but we have been attacked this week, on our Facebook organising group by someone who claims to be a feminist and an ally to our cause. They chose to leak some screenshots to a Twitter troll (outing our members) and make a ridiculous allegation against us and Dr Nic in a thread on here and has slipped through our clean-up of our online group.

They are now threatening police action against high profile members of our group unless we prostrate ourselves to her bullying. @Sweary has a great response to that: the ever eloquent G F* Y! (starred to prevent deletion! ahem).

As we don't know who they are and don't know how to stop them the only option we have is to burn the group. This loses us so many allies, who have supported our actions wholeheartedly since that first day meeting wiht my local swimming pool and it breaks my heart. As we met on MN FWR I hope that most of you are still here and see this. We really didn't want to lose you - and you were as important as those of us out there getting on with the activism.

That this has happened in the run up to the consultation being launched, a time when we really should have our attentions and activities focussed elsewhere is ridiculous. This person has chosen to pursue a personal vendetta at a time when we should be pulling together and building on the success #ManFriday has had so far.

#ManFriday will keep fighting for the rights, safety, privacy and dignity of women and girls. We aren't going away but for the security of our members, we have to use alternative platforms to the Facebook group for organising our activism. Our website, Twitter feed etc. will still be up and running (come & get a t-shirt Wink)

Please keep up with the #randomactsofmanliness and keep taking up space on Fridays. Or any day come to that.

Amy, Sweary and the #ManFriday admin team x (unMumsnetty but )

Trying to link it all to a 'cover up', rather than the fact they have been previously banned.

I'm continually struck afresh, just how these people think other people can't read.

What is Man Friday?

"Let’s start with this statement: I am not going to justify women having their own spaces. Thousands of women, some I know, most I don’t, fought the fight for women’s spaces before I was born so that I, and other women in the UK today, don’t have to. Thanks to them, women’s rights, protections, spaces, and services exist to facilitate women’s participation in social life by upholding and protecting our safety, privacy and dignity. Programs and offices reserved for women seek to redress systemic discrimination against women that puts us at a disadvantage compared to our male peers.

If men want to access these spaces, they need a darn good reason. Like the time male paramedics entered the women’s changing room at the gym where I had collapsed due to complications with my first pregnancy. The women in the changing room had a heads-up so that they could get dressed, hide in the loos, leave the changing room or stay there. It was inconvenient but none of the women present minded because my life and the life of my unborn baby were in danger. The circumstances were exceptional, controlled and limited.

Here are some reasons that aren’t good enough:

For a laugh
They’re curious
It’s more convenient
They don’t think women should have their own spaces
They want to make a point
They fancy a woman in there
The existence of women’s spaces makes them feel discriminated against
They get sexual gratification from making women uncomfortable
They think they have a better chance of achieving their aim in there
They feel sad
They think that they aren’t safe around other men
They want to attack women
There’s one thing about all of the above reasons: they centre around the man’s feelings. To heck with women’s safety, privacy and dignity; it’s all about them.

Which is why, listening, reading and speaking with other people involved in the debate about policies of gender self-identification, I have yet to come across a good reason for men to be given access to women’s spaces on their own say-so. At any time, a woman must be able to assume that when she is in a space reserved for women, no men will be present. And if a man does enter their space, they need to be able to challenge them and have them removed.... "(continues)

Grin no, but I do read to try to understand better and think having been an English Lit student helps.
(I'm also known for being a bit forgetful!)

Weezol · 29/06/2018 13:47

I am ordering an item of clothing.

I have been a FB refusenik since the get go, so this has no effect on my interactions with MF or awareness of the campaign. Yes lots of people sign up for FB, but hundreds of thousands of accounts are dormant, marketing bots or data harvesters, so lots of it isn't real, and most of the world isn't even vaguely interested in the minutiae of English legislation.

Those currently cavorting in glee on FB , Twitter and elsewhere do not seem to be aware that they have limited impact outside the bubble of SM. Enjoy yourselves, it's later than you think.

Showed my mate the Hampstead stuff on Wednesday. He sends his support and asks me to tell you:

"That beard is fucking great! This campaign is brilliant. Simple and an instantly logical, argument. Pint? ". He will be sharing widely.

AngryAttackKittens

You'll be pleased to know you inspired sprout so much they are now using the name 'Satan's gym socks' on Twitter.

I reckon you should ask for payment

Hannah Clarke's 'Churchillian' #ManFriday speech at the 'Let a Woman Speak' Truro event (from 1:05):

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 29/06/2018 14:38

Satan's gym socks is hilarious!😂

MnerXX · 29/06/2018 17:10

So sorry to hear you have been betrayed but know that you guys are awesome and that is why they are running scared. Let us know when you are on tv. I wouldn't want to miss it.

Thisisouting · 30/06/2018 00:38

Why has my post been deleted?

AngryAttackKittens · 30/06/2018 00:41

I hereby demand 100 pounds in cryptocurrency as payment, since Sprout is too lazy to make up their own nyms.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 30/06/2018 08:04

@Thisisouting

It was reported to the police.

Bowlofbabelfish · 30/06/2018 08:17

ICO them, Sweary

Good grief, the hyperbole is out today - ‘horrendous bullying’ - mild sarcasm seems to be akin to flogging in public. Hopefully the police have better things to do than pick up women who are lawfully assembling and trying to uphold the actual law as it is writ.

Flowers for all those doxxed.

Funny how TRA get very upset about being ‘outed’ then do the same to others. Of course this never happens... Hmm

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 30/06/2018 08:39

I saw Sprout's hysteria on twitter, wondered what on earth could have been said on here that bullied someone.

Nothing, is the answer. There is nothing bullying or doxxing about this thread. As usual. The feminists of MN & MF have handled themselves with grace and dignity.

Wish I could say the same thing about Sprout's twitter.

FairfaxAikman · 30/06/2018 08:41

FFS this is getting even more ridiculous than it was in the first place.

Thanks to you all.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 30/06/2018 08:42

Some women are part of a group that sensibly challenged the nonsense of Self ID.

It is not illegal to show that something that is not yet law is a bad idea.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 30/06/2018 08:47

And now the member list has been leaked?

thebewilderness · 30/06/2018 08:51

I am so sorry they did this to you.
I would hug you if I could.

Janice Turner in today's Times:

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/this-gender-battle-is-harder-to-solve-than-brexit-0jc0pn867
Janice Turner The Times:

(extract)
If Brexit is the most divisive issue in British politics, requiring a talent for squaring ideological circles and cajoling compromises from bitter enemies, reform of the 2004 Gender Recognition Act (GRA) runs it a close second. The consultation, long-delayed while three successive ministers for women and equalities scratched their heads, is finally launched on Tuesday.

Although even that isn’t official. Bizarrely the government wouldn’t confirm (or deny) the date. But I’ve seen emails: groups will give evidence in late July, a sleepy summer recess slot calculated, perhaps, to contain the GRA firestorm. Some chance.

Opposing forces are drilled for battle. On one side the trans lobby, including Stonewall and Gendered Intelligence, who claim changes to the process by which a trans person acquires a gender recognition certificate (GRC) are merely a tiny administrative tweak. On the other, feminist activists who fear that a legal redefinition of “woman” from biological sex to the nebulous, inner feeling of “gender identity” threatens female safety and privacy.... "

Brilliant sharable article which makes our points in plain English.

MillyTheKid · 30/06/2018 11:07

I'm a bit confused. There seems to be various posts doing the rounds on social media which are supposedly from the person being accused of causing the trouble and which have supposedly been deleted from this thread by the mods. Why have those posts been deleted when ManFriday have been able to put forward their version of events?

Cascade220 · 30/06/2018 11:11

MillyTheKid · 30/06/2018 11:13

PBPs?

BeyondRaggydoll · 30/06/2018 11:14

The person accused is already a PBP, so any time they post about anything, they will be deleted as a PBP.

No conspiracy.

BeyondRaggydoll · 30/06/2018 11:14

Previously banned poster

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 30/06/2018 11:18

Milly, the understanding is that those posts have been deleted because they were made by a PBP. So, a troll. A GF.

You seem to be suggesting women from ManFriday shouldn't be able to talk about their perfectly legitimate political campaign on the FWR board. Why is that?
