From [[https://communities.lendlease.com/gilead/
this website]]:

Welcome to Gilead – Macarthur’s new lifestyle gateway

A new master planned community from Australia’s premier award winning developer.

Set beside the Nepean River, Gilead will be a community surrounded by natural bushland and only 10 minutes from the urban hubs of Campbelltown and Camden.

Our residents will enjoy the beauty and convenience of beaches, adventures, hikes, walks and foodie hubs, at their doorstep.

Gilead is coming in early 2018.

WTF? Have these people never heard of Google? Or books/TV?

What's a "lifestyle gateway" anyway?

Praise fucking be.

That’s a no thanks from me.

OvaHere · 26/06/2018 17:04

Someone didn't run this past a focus group.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/06/2018 17:05

Is this meant to be ironic?

user1499173618 · 26/06/2018 17:06

Hilarious!

Waddlelikeapenguin · 26/06/2018 17:30

Really? Grin

Snappity · 26/06/2018 17:33

Why is this in Feminism?

BeyondFemaleElitist · 26/06/2018 17:34

Why are you in feminism?

ReliefOfChaos · 26/06/2018 17:36

There's quite a few places called Gilead, it being a region in Jordan and having been a region in Jordan for a good few thousand years before Margaret Atwood came along.

dolorsit · 26/06/2018 17:37

Because it references a novel that could be considered a seminal feminist work, which is now even better known due to the critically acclaimed TV adaptation.

pombear · 26/06/2018 17:38

Because, Snappity, sometimes we need a laugh!

(And PS Gilead-themes are quite relevant in feminism. Did you not know? Margaret Attwood's quite a good read Smile )

dolorsit · 26/06/2018 17:42

It is quite funny.

Writersblock2 · 26/06/2018 17:44

I needed this today lol

pombear · 26/06/2018 17:46

Surely now you've been a while Snappity , you know we like a laugh now and then.

Another thing that seems to have got lost along the way - humour is a human emotion, it helps us, whatever political, ideological lane we're in.

I wonder sometimes whether that's what's got lost along the way, which is why debate is so difficult. Those of us who've been here on Mumsnet for a looong time know how important it is (not going to get out the bat photo!)

pombear · 26/06/2018 17:47

Though Brian from Hull may want to throw his yoni in the ring for a bit of light relief! (Maybe on the vagina thread!)

AngryAttackKittens · 26/06/2018 17:48

Don't think Snappity likes humor very much.

BeyondFemaleElitist · 26/06/2018 17:48

Just so long as no one brings out TWC. Not even the trolls deserve that!

Mossandclover · 26/06/2018 17:52

Tbf Gilead is in the bible and was the name of part of what is now Jordan. I am sure I heard the preacher at Harry and Megan mention Gilead but no one else picked up on it so I wondered if I imagined it.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 26/06/2018 17:52

Gilead is also the name of a Marilynn Robinson book about a dying pastor

The pastor at the Royal Wedding also spoke about it, I think in the Bible it has a really positive association just not in Handmaids Tale

Mossandclover · 26/06/2018 17:53

Took me too long to type!

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 26/06/2018 17:53

Xpost with moss

Yes he did!

pombear · 26/06/2018 17:54

and some of us are just having a chuckle! Regardless of etymology, history, etc.

Let us laugh!

A little?

Or is FWR meant to be stern faces, hard places all the time?

LightofaSilveryMoon · 26/06/2018 17:55

Does it have a dress code? Wink

LassWiADelicateAir · 26/06/2018 18:42

Tbh to only connect Gilead with The Handmaid's Tale shows a bit of a lack of general knowledge

sleepingdragons · 26/06/2018 19:22

Why is this in Feminism?

Erm, because last time I looked, this is Feminist chat, no?

I'm having a chat, with feminists, about a feminist book, indirectly.

Does it have a dress code? Grin

I would expect so. All the best "master planned" communities do, surely?!
