Blown away by how little a lot of people care about women’s rights

I’ve name changed.

How do you challenge or discuss self ID with women who think it solely boils down to sharing a toilet and we have nothing better to do but cause trouble.

Honestly don’t know how I’m going to face them again - which is pretty soon.

I don’t know if it’s purely down to age, they like a bit of a ruckus and being devils advocate or they really are that thick. How can you have pleasantries with a woman who think men get just as a bad deal/ assaulted and that’s it’s fine to put a violent man in a female prison because you lose your rights if you commit a crime.

Honestly I’m staggered today and worried for our future Sad

TellsEveryoneRealFacts Good way of expressing the issue!

HappensInHumans · 24/06/2018 12:06

You are living in ignorant bliss, if you don't realise that personality disordered people, those with deeper agendas and cult like behaviour aren't on our side too.

Snappity · 24/06/2018 12:06

Or someone whose gender you can't determine?
Or a butch lesbian you think is probably a woman but you can't tell?

Indeed, where do you draw the line because if you go on looks then a number women are going to be afraid to use the toilet in case someone accuses them of being a male predator.

Baroquehavoc · 24/06/2018 12:09

You make it sound like you believe that being accused of being a predator is worse than being attacked.

Baroquehavoc · 24/06/2018 12:12

If it meant that my daughter was safe in female only spaces, I would be happy to be challenged everytime i entered one.

Pratchet · 24/06/2018 12:14

Aaaand whose fault is that? Not feminists

SomeDyke · 24/06/2018 12:22

My wife is frequently questioned when going into the ladies. She isn't very butch. Sometimes it is slightly annoying/amusing but she doesn't actually take offence because she understands that a slight personal annoyance is far outweighed by the vigilance to try and keep other women and girls a little bit safer.
So please don't try to imply that butch women don't understand these issues perfectly. The line is female!

It probably isn't that they don't care about women's rights. It's far more likely that they recognise that your obsession with possible changes to an obscure administrative procedure that affects only a few thousand people has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with women's rights!
(And nothing to do with sharing a toilet, either!)

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 24/06/2018 12:30

No they are not.

People know who a man is and who a woman is.

If it does happen, then they would cope with it as they understand the realities of why female only spaces need to be kept female only.

mrsmuddlepies · 24/06/2018 12:32

Well said LassWiaDelicateAir.
I wish other posters recognised the need to consider a range of views and opinions.

MrsKCastle · 24/06/2018 12:40

Damnthatone it has everything to do with women's rights when women are no longer allowed single-sex spaces in hostels, refuges, sports, prisons, girls' schools, politics, lesbian spaces... The list is endless.

It has to do with women's rights when women are told we are not allowed to claim the word 'women '. When we are told that we are 'cis ' even when we reject the label. when we are told that we have a gender identity, whether we recognise it or not. When we are told that there is no material difference between male and female people and that it is bigoted to suggest there is. When teenagers are coming out as trans at a never before seen rate.

Self-id, the kind that it becoming widely accepted in society, not just the proposed GRA changes, is having a HUGE impact on women's rights and how women are seen in society.

By all means, argue your case for why you think that's a good thing. But don't try to tell us it only affects a few thousand people. It affects everyone. But it affects women more than anyone.

Dinosaurchicken · 24/06/2018 13:01

Reminds me of that woman who went on TV crying about her tax credits/benefits being reduced. Except she’d voted for exactly that - just didn’t think it would affect people like her. Just those other none deserving people.

It’s like that.

Dinosaurchicken · 24/06/2018 13:02

We will also loose the ability to challenge a male in a female space.

Hygge · 24/06/2018 13:04

DamnThat - it has everything to do with women's rights.

The woman who asked for a woman to perform her smear test, was sent a male nurse. She had a right to be treated as she requested and that right was denied.

A woman who's mental illness gave her a fear of men was placed in a ward with a man who identified as a woman.

The bomb threats made against women for wanting to get together and talk about what this means to us.

Girls who are being encouraged to harm their bodies by breast binding or taking medication that ruins their health and fertility.

Women and girls who's sports are being made pointless because they are competing against men and boys who are physically stronger.

Men who identify as women can still inherit above older female siblings, while women who identify as men cannot then inherit in place of younger male siblings.

The cancer charity who deny that only women have cervixes but are on record as saying only men have prostrates. Encouraged by a statement that some people would rather die of cancer than be misgendered.

All women being told to "enjoy your erasure" as women.

Women being called TERF's by WERMS (Women Exclusionary Radical Misogynists).

Women being banned from social media or being censored on social media for stating that Ian Huntley was a man when he committed his crimes against girls.

Women being told that they can't use their own language to talk about their own bodies, can't even call themselves women when it comes to the most basic female biology. We're either 'vagina feminists' or 'person' because the word women is now apparently offensive or excluding.

Hygge · 24/06/2018 13:05

Dinosaur That's the woman I was thinking of in my post.

It was all just fine until she realised she was affected along with all those other less deserving people.

Dinosaurchicken · 24/06/2018 13:07

Ah I did think it sounded similar. That and all the ones who voted for Trump and wanted the “Obama care” act repealed and didn’t realised it applied to them as “the affordable care act” just all those other people that didn’t want to pay their way.

There’s so many people like that sadly.

Snappity · 24/06/2018 13:08

"People know who a man is and who a woman is."

How do you categorise trans men?

Ereshkigal · 24/06/2018 13:10

have come across this arguement before, many times. How is it that only female women lose the right to be safe because of the crime she has committed?

But apparently the violent men jailed for violence do have "rights"! Hmm

Dinosaurchicken · 24/06/2018 13:10

A few years and the current hand maidens will be complaining that they didn’t think realise it would apply to them too when they want a female gynae or their daughter cant win at sport anymore because their place was taken by a male.

Snappity you've been asked many times what you mean by woman and you haven't answered. There's no point in chatting if we can't understand each other.

Pratchet · 24/06/2018 13:17

See I would say trans men are transgender men ie men who are transgender so not female.

Pratchet · 24/06/2018 13:19

Well I've bitten and will probably be reported, trans is short fif transgender, men means adult males so transgender men is men who are transgender. So that says to me - not female.

PlantsArePeopleToo · 24/06/2018 13:20

Men who identify as women can still inherit above older female siblings, while women who identify as men cannot then inherit in place of younger male siblings.

People never seem to address this.

If transwomen are women and transmen are men that there should be outrage over this transphobic rule. Yet all the alleged pro-trans righters just ignore this little inconvenient truth. Funny that.
