A Transgender Twitter Fight

"It was one short tweet. A transgender activist Miranda Yardley called another transgender activist, Aimee Challenor, a “man”. It certainly wasn’t the first controversial or potentially offensive remark that Miranda Yardley had tweeted out, but it does appear that it was the final straw for Twitter, which handed her a permanent ban. While Miranda says that her views should be protected under the principle of free speech, Aimee says the tweet - and other comments posted online - were part of a long pattern of bullying and harassment. Trending explores the complicated political world of transgender activism and how philosophical battles within transgender communities are playing out on social media."

Well I have just spent 17 minutes of my life listening to this and I find it utterly chilling.

The presenters, the university gender expert and Aimee Challenor really did not get to grips with the fact of biological sex. I was astounded by the cognitive dissonance. Sure, Aimee wants to be considered to be a woman and may even truly believe themselves to be one. But it is a fact that they were born a man and it is a fact that it is not possible to change one's sex and the program never approached these basic points.

Instead it wrapped up by saying that social media platforms, in order to defend free speech should define clearly what speech is allowed. I paraphrase but that was the thrust of it.

Much like is happening here.

I have tied myself in knots to avoid a deletion.

Thankyou for that link Boreofwhab
17 minutes well spent.
It is a good introduction to two people in the public eye from both sides of the argument and where the one side doesn't seem to acknowledge the need to fully debate the issues.
As for tying ourselves in knots, all linguistic options must be tested.
Miranda quite rightly recognises women as the reproductive class of which she can never be part of. Thankyou MIranda. This is a simple truth.

Miranda was doxxed. Miranda explained what happened when he was doxxed.
They asked Miranda how he feels about his activities increasing the risk of doxxing for trans people Angry

Have any trans activists been doxxed?

Terfulike · 24/06/2018 11:30

Miranda requests male pronouns are used. I hope Aimee complained about Miranda being misgendered by the presenter (I won't hold my breath)?

The BBC has been so deeply and so thoroughly groomed by transactivists that nothing it broadcasts on the issue has been produced without fear and deference.

Pratchet · 24/06/2018 12:04

It was one of their earliest targets, and help to set up a media body that appears to have been the seed for Trans Media Watch. If a story looks trans-negative, they simply won't do it.

Pratchet · 24/06/2018 12:07

I've seen this over and over again, I go to their site looking for stuff that should at least merit a local news mention, or a featured hit. Nothing. But I've seen so many 'sad journeys' 'brave and beautiful' 'terrible discrimination' etc. Even say one video about a teen who is a 'webcammer' to cope with 'dysphoria'! Almost porn! It's transadvocacy all the way. The BBC was a major, major victory for TRA.

Pratchet · 24/06/2018 12:13

Just getting Miranda Yardley on is quite a major thing to be fair. But it look how it had to be two with no feminists in sight.

BeyondSceptical · 24/06/2018 12:13

My dad is big on "bbc are so biased", I'm inclined to agree when it comes to this subject tbh

jellyfrizz · 24/06/2018 14:01

It's never going to be a balanced programme if sex and gender are being confused/ conflated.
