I spoke to my three teenage nieces for the first time about transgenderism. Apparently there are loads in their school, mainly girls wanting to be boys, so we talked about why that might be. It lead onto me telling them about the Equality Act, and the Gender Recognition Act, and the difference between sex & gender. I told them about proposal to bring in self-ID, and they immediately saw what problems it would cause... sports, prison, health care etc.
We talked about why it was important to have sex segregated spaces, and I told them how women had fought for them.
I'd say I peak transed them, but to be honest I think they were already there. They just don't understand the trans phenomenon, and think it's crazy that some people believe humans can change sex.
But we did also talk about the importance of being kind and respectful, especially to the girls at their school who are struggling with gender identity.
It was the first time I'd talked properly to them about feminism, and it went really well.
Great idea for a thread by the way OP!
