I meant on this thread. I've never seen Private Eye post anything as nasty towards women as Feminist Current has.

BettyDuMonde · 21/06/2018 12:51

Wakame - your chosen cartoon actually illustrates how female biology is the one thing women have in common, regardless of their politics, religion or gender presentation.

Which is what we keep saying.

haXXor · 21/06/2018 12:53

If @wakame has any evidence to suggest that females are peering over cubical partitions as depicted in that last cartoon, I'm all ears to hear it.

BettyDuMonde · 21/06/2018 12:57

A man once put his head under the side of my cubicle in a unisex changing room at a swimming pool. I shouted obscenities at the top of my voice and made him run away. I was only 19 or so.

It’s one of the reasons that I am willing to actively participate in the campaign to preserve single sex spaces.

FloralBunting · 21/06/2018 12:59

I'm sure Wakame probably has a cod science opinion piece that has stats from a study involving 16 people who once felt that someone gave them a side eye in a public toilet to prove that it is entirely normative behaviour for women to peek at other people in the toilets.

Because, you know, that's scientific consensus, innit?

placemats · 21/06/2018 13:12

I hope Wakame understands sarcasm with regards to my last post.

shiklah · 21/06/2018 13:28

Opppps! Misread - sorry crow

@bluescreen do you know what edition? I have a backlog I am working thru (whilst I should be working)

I have been spied on various times in loos and changing rooms - 3 I can instantly recall. The most recent was at a leisure centre with a changing village of cubicles - a man held an iphone over the cubicle and filmed me. I was with DD4 who was naked. The police were called, the leisure centre were unhelpful. He did it again and was caught about 6 weeks later.

bluescreen · 21/06/2018 13:36

shiklah no, sorry, I don't. It must have been at least two months ago but the way I'm processing time right now it could have been longer. The row was back in December/January so perhaps it was back then... But there has been a steady trickle of GC cartoons from the Eye.

MsMcWoodle · 21/06/2018 13:49

WAKAME - in your second link there's another cartoon about women's toilets that actually IS funny.
In a very dark way.
The one with the notice board outside the loo.

MsMcWoodle · 21/06/2018 13:51

The blue notice board.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/06/2018 14:01

I think the boss has mistaken the 3 gender non-conforming women at the table for men

Ohhh... so all the reports about the underrepresentation of women on boards is just a misunderstanding, and its merely that there's not enough female directors wearing skirts and makeup. Hmm

I've no idea what the gender or sex of that poster is, but sure as heck they're not someone who takes the idea of women's rights and equality seriously.

Dragoncake · 21/06/2018 14:06

Are you going to explain the 'conservative Christian' joke Wakame?

ClownStar · 21/06/2018 14:08

What's meant to be funny about Wakame's second cartoon is the proposition that the only way anybody could work out if someone was female, or pre-operative trans woman, or post-operative trans woman, would be to engage in the very behaviour (peering over toilet cubicles) that they say would be enabled by self ID. I think the unfashionable hairstyle and flowery shirt are meant to be funny too, to illustrate how unsexy these cunty women are (this is how I know she's meant to be a cunty woman).

The first cartoon is terrible though. Women can reach the same conclusion through different perspectives, almost like we're thinking humans or something. I mean, I agree that men shouldn't look at porn, but that doesn't make me a member of ISIS just because they think that too...

nauticant · 21/06/2018 14:13

I'll do it. The joke is that gender critical views have got nothing to do with critical thinking, experience, safeguarding, or anything good, but are simply hate and they come from the same place that the hate of Conservative Christians comes.

See? It really is that funny.

shiklah · 21/06/2018 14:16

@bluescreen
I'll have rummage when I get home, might have a copy.....

I wish that people who don't take seriously the bomb threats against women meeting together would not come here. Is there anyone here who fits that description.

ClownStar · 21/06/2018 14:24

Interestingly, this cartoon (was linked in the ones next to Wakame's) suggests that trans women in bathrooms are a topic of legitimate fear but only for men.

bit.ly/2MLHoS7

(I don't agree with either of those cartoonists)

BettyDuMonde · 21/06/2018 14:30

Wakame’s main gig seems to be stomping around various feminist parts of the internet posting the same bit of flawed science that Wakame tried on us yesterday in Wakame’s self-started thread ‘Gender Identity - What is it?’

Check the comments on the article below:

God I love private eye. Nothing is sacred and they simply do not tolerate any nonsense.

Followed one of Wakame’s links and found this one, I suspect this is the one that most of us here on mumnet will relate to:

@bowlofbabelfish that one is on my fridge!

See? It really is that funny.

Ba-dum-tish indeed, nauticant.

OlennasWimple · 21/06/2018 15:37

I didn't think either rad fems or conservative Christians believed in an "essence" of womanhood, as mentioned in that cartoon from Wakame. Which kinda tipped me the wink about where it was going Hmm

shiklah · 21/06/2018 15:43

"essence of womanhood" - wasn't that an Elizabeth Taylor fragrance Grin
