Once a trans women got their GRC they had to wait a period of time (say 5 years) before they were able to have the same rights as all women? For example they would only be able to apply for a job as a women’s officer, appear on a female only panel or to compete in women’s sport after five years of lived experience as a woman?

Someone I know is meeting with her MP to discuss how to propose this legislation. She thinks it will address possible repercussions from self ID and stop it being abused. I thought it was an interesting idea I could get behind.

spontaneous stop putting words into my mouth. My discomfort with sex segregation where unnecessary, especially for children, has nothing to do with appeasing the trans lobby at all. Growing up in Scandinavia, I found it hard moving to the UK where there was such an emphasis on division between males and females. It's something that I noticed on a profound level and it makes me wonder whether overall it is a good thing. As I have said, I know others feel differently, so enough of the dumb hashtags.

PermissionToSpeakSir · 22/06/2018 21:34

My tattoos were a choice made with informed consent

As are a male getting silicone breast implants. It is just body morphication.

It is possible that both could lead to unfair treatment in prison.

Why does one deserve preferential treatment?

PeakPants · 22/06/2018 21:35

Wtf...

spontaneousgiventime · 22/06/2018 21:36

PeakPants I don't need to put words into your mouth it's obvious what you think, it comes from your keyboard. With respect, I'll do hashtags when I like. Don't tell me what to do.#weseeyou

You can't just take the norms of one culture, impose them on another, and assume it will have the desired result though. My best friend is from a culture that has unisex public hot springs in which everyone is naked (and also some single sex ones). She grew up with that and is therefore not bothered by it (though some people don't like it even there, hence the existence of some single sex ones). Her daughter, who did not grow up there, won't use hot springs where there may be men. I'm a bit self conscious even in all female environments with that much nudity, because British, but can get over it if the environment really is all female (but would not be comfortable in the mixed space unless maybe if I knew and was comfortable with all the men there, which I completely recognize is a result of my upbringing).

What I'm getting at is that it makes no sense for a person raised in Sweden to confidently assert that British girls don't or shouldn't feel the need for organizations like GG. The culture is different, and that will have an impact on what people want and are OK with. As a kid I would probably have preferred Scouts to the very baking and domestic stuff focused Brownies group I was in for a short time, since I was an extremely assertive tomboy, but I can absolutely see why some girls would much prefer Brownies/GG and don't think my not needing it means the option shouldn't be available to them.

AngryAttackKittens · 22/06/2018 21:55

What did she say that merited speed of light deletion?

spontaneousgiventime · 22/06/2018 21:56

A snowflake melted on their keyboard and a drip hit the report button.

No, you're right Kittens that is of course true that cultural differences need to be considered. I think I was more responding to the idea that we should move towards more sex segregation and just thought about my own experience.

I also missed what terf said.

I can't believe this thread is still going

To be fair, Terfulike it's moved on slightly. You'll be pleased to see that the womens 'to do list' is getting longer, though.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 22/06/2018 22:00

I did read terf message and i didnt go Shock

So it cant have been that bad

And as much as i hate that 'snowflake' word...that was funny spontaneous

AngryAttackKittens · 22/06/2018 22:02

That's part of my fundamental objection to some of what's being proposed. Even if I was a mum that wouldn't make me everyone's mum. At a certain point if a group of people want something they have to agitate for it themselves. If they're agitating for something that I very actively do not want I will say so. I may propose alternate solutions where applicable, but actually implementing those or fighting for them doesn't become my job just because I rejected the earlier demand.

Baroquehavoc · 22/06/2018 22:02

The post wasn't outrageous. I'm having difficulty understanding why it was deleted. Unless we are not allowed to even question anything now.

AngryAttackKittens · 22/06/2018 22:04

I'm so often tempted to just post "I'm melting!" but probably not a good idea in the current deletion-happy climate.

spontaneousgiventime · 22/06/2018 22:04

I only use snowflake for people who report all over the place. It's either snowflake or snivelling little snot.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 22/06/2018 22:05

unless we are not allowed to even question anything now.

Im getting that feeling

PeakPants · 22/06/2018 22:05

I wanna know what it said now... Grin

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 22/06/2018 22:06

Oooh no

I prefer the latter

(Although i do report a fair bit myself....i dont report dumb stuff!!)

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 22/06/2018 22:06

Just realised my last sentence might look like im sniveling

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 22/06/2018 22:06
