Boys prioritised over girls - again

I've seen fears expressed here before that new trans policies in schools will marginalise religious girls, and this blog seems to confirm this - girls will be removed from PE with the new rules in Glamorgan.

The fourth witness, a councillor, appears to put it best - the feelings of the boys who self identify as girls will be prioritised over the safety of the girls. It's the girls who will be asked to leave if they object to this new policy.

There is a good section of people protesting. I can't understand what's happened though. Has it been formally adopted or is it 'back on the agenda'.

The councillors who agreed to adopt will not be well informed about this, specifically about the discriminatory impact on girls and religious minorities. They will definitely be confused but have a vague desire to be seen as 'the good guys'. They can't be excused if blame though: they should known what they're voting on.

Props to those speaking up for girls: that's what takes guts these days.

I'd like to read the toolkit. Is it available online anywhere? I presume they consulted with one of the big trans orgs given the presence of Stonewall and Pride Cymru at this local council meeting.

I've been concerned for a while that these changes will drive a lot of Muslim girls out of public spaces, and in particular out of sports. Apparently the people in charge don't think that matters. I do.

It’s not prioritising boys over girls, it’s prioritising transgender over “ordinary”. All childr n are pretty vulnerable when it comes to their bodies and privacy so this fails everyone.

Yes: allsorts youth project are the pro trans while Allsorts Alliance are pro-science. Clever move Mrs Anne Greagsby despite the pro-trans effort to silence you.

It's always about the boys in the girls' changing rooms, isn't it?

I do wonder if girls, who are now identifying as boys, were compelled to use the boys' changing rooms, whether this would cause the public outrage that is necessary to call an end to this crap.

I KNOW that would be throwing those girls under the bus, and it's not 'right', but if they're old enough to decide they want to change their gender, then they're old enough to understand and accept the consequences. However, at least they have a choice, which is more than their non-regendering sisters have atm.

Who knows, it might even encourage some to defer the decision until they've left school if it makes it a less attractive option/current fad.

A lot of vigorous resistance to the Transgender Toolkit in the meeting, I'm pleased to note.

I was struck by this: Cllr Sivagnanam – who works Labour MP Stephen Doughty asks “Has there been an equality impact assessment carried out in this scenario which takes into account the potential competing equality strands and protected characteristics, in this case sex and self-identifying transgender?”

I like the way he puts that: "potential competing equality strands". This is what's missing in the analysis of all the political parties, that women's equality has to be considered. Also I don't think many politicians have considered that no other "human rights" lobby specifically removes rights from another disadvantaged group.

It's one guy Ian Johnson who pushed it forward. There seems to be quite a bit of hesitation actually. See the comment at the bottom of this link

Sure, feminists are meant to be there for women, but should that mean all women in all circumstances?

I see trans men a bit like any other socially conservative female group (pro-lifers, religious gender role supporters etc) - they might be decent people under the politics, but their actions harm women overall. While they will always be female, I am not sure we need to expend energy fighting for their rights when they’re actively undermining us at every step.

So yeah, in the boys room with you. There’s a difference between throwing someone under a bus and not stopping someone who is hellbent on leaping under the wheels themselves.
