Graham Norton's sofa

I've just realised how entrenched the idea of just accepting that most people on the telly are men.

dd and I have just been gobsmacked at the fact that every person on GN's sofa is female. Women. Five of them.

What's shocking isn't the fact that they are all there. What's shocking is that (sadly) we are shocked.

I've noticed that too. Is it maybe part of this 'Hear Her' thing the beeb have got going on at the moment.

Frustratedboarder · 15/06/2018 22:59

I'm now watching at the mo but don't think I would be shocked, maybe intrigued or even a bit excited... 😁 Ok so I guess I don't get out much!

Would totally be a tad pissed off at an all-male sofa show down tho! Hypocritical, much... 😕😁

missmapp · 15/06/2018 23:01

I am watching and hadn't noticed. Thinking about it now, it is unusual though

Frustratedboarder · 15/06/2018 23:03

Not watching, that should say... Bit of an entrenched feminist - actually, equanamist - tho as nearly fell over the other day when DD asked, mummy why is God a man? 😤😟😲😨😵

NapQueen · 15/06/2018 23:04

I had this when QI had all women participants on once. Once.

Maryz · 15/06/2018 23:04

See I'm in Ireland where there are regularly all male panels on talk shows (and always all male panels on sports shows).

So it was very noticeable - but I was amused that dd noticed it first and got her rant in before I even managed to start on mine Grin

It would be even better if the host was female.

Maryz · 15/06/2018 23:07

Frustratedboarder - my dad is a gynaecologist and is insistent that God must be a woman. When I was about 8 I was kept in at lunch time in school for earnestly informing the nun/teacher of his theory, which was that Adam (and God) must have been women, because new life/new generations could come from female gametes alone, but never from men alone.

I didn't understand the science/religion then, but 50 years later I still appreciate the sentiment.

Oh, I dunno, HollowTalk, I have a very soft spot for our Graham Grin

MiddleMoffat · 15/06/2018 23:07

Did Rianna really just say that? Not very nice.

HollowTalk · 15/06/2018 23:11

I like Graham, but I just meant we'd never have a female presenter and an all female panel, ie no men there at all!

Maryz · 15/06/2018 23:13

Oh yes, obviously.

The new QI has quite a few women, sometimes. And then sometimes I look and they aren't women at all [sigh]

I watched a bit of the ITV world cup coverage today.

Eni Aluko was doing the punditry, along with Slaven Bilic and Ryan Giggs.

It was good to see. Finally.

Perfectly1mperfect · 15/06/2018 23:13

Doesn't Graham Norton just have people on who have a new film, song etc out, whether they are men or women ?

JaneJeffer · 15/06/2018 23:18

They're giving me a headache. Who's the one in black? She's very annoying.

bakingdemon · 15/06/2018 23:20

@JaneJeffer that's Sarah Paulson. She was amazing as the prosecutor in the OJ Simpson programme a couple of years ago

ALittleAubergine · 15/06/2018 23:20

He did have nicole kidman, meryl streep and Carey mulling (?) and nigella once, no men on the sofa.

JaneJeffer · 15/06/2018 23:22

(and always all male panels on sports shows). There's loads of female sports presenters on Irish telly. The World Cup panel is 50/50 and the Gaelic games always have women too.

Etino · 15/06/2018 23:23

Gosh, they were wired great!
Music a bit Brit School showcase.

bakingdemon · 15/06/2018 23:24

Who on earth is this little boy dressed like an AA repair man?

JaneJeffer · 15/06/2018 23:24

Thanks baking. I didn't watch that.

I did enjoy Helena saying "right" Grin

Etino · 15/06/2018 23:25

😂

JaneJeffer · 15/06/2018 23:26

I think it's too many people at once!

Etino · 15/06/2018 23:26

I’m having a flashback to a group session I failed to controlran this week. It was traumatic

Pythagonal · 15/06/2018 23:28

She was absolutely brilliant in it, but I didn't realize she was so tall!
