It's going to be made a criminal offence with a 2 year jail sentence .

Well done to all those women who have fought for this to happen

And has anyone ever seen any "upskirt" photos published in newspapers? I'm pretty sure I haven't.

Of course I have. The daily mail and others often has a women coming out of a car, especially on a night out and the photographer has deliberately set him self low down so they can hopefully get a picture of the woman's knicks and then puts up a headline ' so and so displays her assets or other such nonsense.
As wrong as that is it then becomes 'normal' and then the bloke on the street thinks its a perfectly fine thing to do, it then follows on that the lads at school think they can do that to females there and if challenged the young women and the girls ' have a problem or attitude and 'can't take a joke'

I have seen these pictures through work. It's awful. A couple of years ago it seemed like it was just one or two lads from the high school that did it and word got round now it is an everyday thing.

Recently I have been on training courses and this subject has been covered.

Thanks for the examples, everyone - god, that's pretty horrible. I suppose nothing should surprise me now.

Spy camera in a bathroom scale.

LighthouseSouth · 15/06/2018 12:33

@notacooldad - be interesting to hear what they said on your course?

just in case it's helpful to anyone - you know those spyhole things you get in hotel doors to see who is outside? We have one of those on the internal door of our flat.

a friend warned us that you can buy a reverse spyhole thingy to look inside the flat. There's sometimes a cover over the spyhole, but ours doesn't have one, so we've stuck black tape over it. not attractive, but seemed a good idea.

Target, an American chain, found voyeurism, including upskirt filming, tripled after the company initiated a gender inclusive changing room policy. All of the offenders were male. womanmeanssomething.com/1034-2/.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 15/06/2018 12:42

At last! Good news.

UpstartCrow · 15/06/2018 12:44

This is only good news if its implemented.

As for 'this never happens,' there's at least one upskirt Reddit and a well worn hashtag.
And this is voyeurism lite. If you find upskirting difficult to get your head round then count your lucky stars you've never encountered any of the heavier stuff, but please don't dismiss womens concerns over this kind of behaviour.

MrsFogi · 15/06/2018 12:45

About bloody time!!

p.s. I am a woman who has grave concerns that the impact of proposed changes to the law relating to transgender rights will be to significantly erode women's rights. I object to being accused of transphobia for asking questions about the reforms and I do not agree that we need to subvert our language or understanding of biology in order to respect the rights of people who wish to decide on their gender-identity. I urge all women to visit the Fair Play for Women website to read about the issues and form their own views. I am grateful to MN for providing a platform where the issues can be discussed albeit in a heavily-moderataed manner (in contrast to most other social media platforms which have banned or silenced open debate).

lightsouth
It was pretty much what we already knew, examples of how it happens and the affect on victims and that the victims targeted are getting younger. We watched a video of a young girl narrating over different images about how she felt when every one at school had seen the pictures.
It also talked about the definition and legal position of upskirting in different countries. However upskirting was just a small topic of the main course that was about CSE

shiklah · 15/06/2018 12:56

I've seen them in the papers. I will not link here. I have seen Britney Spears, Christina Augilaria (sp?), Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan et all being pushed over by groups of men pushing cameras up their skirts.
Gross.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 15/06/2018 12:57

Well, this new law is good but reading this thread has also made me vow never to let either DD go anywhere public and busy without leggings / trousers etc.

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 15/06/2018 12:59

Excellent news. About blooming time!

Well done to all involved Wine

I don't know if this was aimed at me, but if so, you've misunderstood. I didn't say that it didn't happen, and I am the last person to dismiss women's concerns about it. I was genuinely just puzzled by the logistics of it.

ChattyLion · 15/06/2018 13:29

Excellent news! Flowers to all who made this happen.

haXXor · 15/06/2018 13:41

@Ineedacupofteadesperately

Yup, it always ends up being the women who have to overheat in leggings in the summer to prevent male abuse, whilst the men walk down the street topless in shorts.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 15/06/2018 13:54

haXXor yes, I realise this is not ideal and not right but if it prevents child abuse of my children (given the images could presumably end up anywhere including used by paedophiles) then leggings it is.

I don't feel happy having to do this, or have the conversation with my older DD. But I need to start to have these conversations with her or she's wide open to abuse.

I hope there's a law enacted against dick pics too. It really isn't any different from flashing.

Floeer · 15/06/2018 14:21

It really isn't any different from flashing

Totally agree 100%! How this has become acceptable or normal behaviour I do not know.

So glad that this law has gone through but such a shame it required its own law to begin with!

lovetheway · 15/06/2018 14:50

Just seen on the news the law has been blocked by a Tory MP Sir Christopher Chope Angry

Floeer · 15/06/2018 14:55

Just seen too, hasn't been reported as to why yet though on the BBC?

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/06/2018 14:58

Well, this new law is good but reading this thread has also made me vow never to let either DD go anywhere public and busy without leggings / trousers etc.

Or we tell our daughters that if they become the victim of a crime they have nothing to be ashamed about. That it's the people doing this who should be ashamed. Wear what you like and fuck 'em all. Like men do.

If only it were that easy.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 15/06/2018 15:00

Why on earth would anyone block this?

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/06/2018 15:01

www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-44496427

It has.

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/06/2018 15:02

Why on earth would anyone block this?

We can only speculate about why a man would like men to be able to continue to do this. I'm speculating very very hard.

notacooldad · 15/06/2018 15:03

What the hell????
