I am a woman.

I was a girl.

I am an adult human female.

Something a man can never be.

I am a woman.

People refer to me has her and she.

Sometimes said with deep contempt and misogyny.

I am a woman.

Something a male will never be.

I have a vagina and uterus.

I menstruate and have given birth.

I am a mother.

Something a male will never be.

I have been insulted, assaulted, belittled, dismissed, held back, intimidated, stereotyped, terrorised, mocked, shamed, humiliated because I am a woman.

Something a male can never be.

I feel insulted, appropriated, offended, anxious, tense, depressed, hurt and under siege, when a male claims to be a woman or anyone says a male can be female.

It is not civil or respectful to treat me this way.

I am a woman.

I am Spartacus.

And i'd like to reiterate what a previous poster said:

Why is it considered mean for us to refer to someones factual biological being but it isn't mean for them to erode womens safety and human rights?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 15/06/2018 08:48

Where are the new amendments to the new guidelines

PlectrumElectrum · 15/06/2018 08:50

Why is it considered mean for us to refer to someones factual biological being but it isn't mean for them to erode womens safety and human rights?

Agreed

I'm Spartacus too.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/06/2018 08:58

I am Spartacus.
Biology is real. There are two sexes and humans cannot change sex.
It is important we retain the ability to speak about this reality because women are oppressed on the basis of their sex and will continue to be so even when we are not allowed to talk about it.

Men are welcome to smash gender stereotyping through any amount of feminine dress and behaviour. Knit away, Jane. It has no bearing on biological sex though.

TimeLady · 15/06/2018 09:25

Where are the new amendments to the new guidelines

Hidden away in the middle of a thread in Site Stuff.

Please can @MNHQ provide a sticky of the latest edict at the top of FWR, otherwise some may be caught unawares

pinkgirl1234 · 15/06/2018 09:34

I should really make a point of reading them but I know I wouldn't understand them. From what I've read on the threads though, the world's gone mad.

lovetheway · 15/06/2018 09:38

I am Spartacus. No human can change sex. No one is born into the wrong body. Brains do not have gender.

starcrossedseahorse · 15/06/2018 09:39

Standing with my MN sisters.

Men cannot become women.
Women cannot become men.
Human beings cannot change their biological sex.
Women are oppressed by men due to their sex not their gender.
Gender is a damaging social construct.

I am a woman.
I am spartacus.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/06/2018 09:47

Still a Spartacus.

Only women can give birth. The fact that men are completely rubbish at it is the most fundamental reason for women's oppression. Sorry, chaps, the sexes are immutably different.

Men can do almost anything else, including cheerfully wearing skirts

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/brickies-in-skirts-after-being-told-they-can-t-wear-shorts-sw5ct9d2w?shareToken=d675f883123c720fb403d163db869d33

I want MN to remain a place where women can talk freely about anything which impacts the rights of women and girls. I don't think the latest guidelines entirely prevent discussion (MN isn't quite taking the 14th rule of misogyny literally) but they are putting curbs on free speech.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 15/06/2018 09:48

Thank you time

I dont really understand why MNHQ can't put any relevant comments on one thread for clarification

BabyItsAWildWorld · 15/06/2018 09:49

Still Spartacus.

Got a penis?
You are a man.

Undercoverswede · 15/06/2018 10:26

G'morning 2

I am still feeling feisty about this 'person with a cervix' business. How about we all redefine ourselves as we see fit? It is an opportunity, after all.

The etymology of 'woman' is questionable, even if its traditional usage makes it a badge of honour:

"adult female human," late Old English wimman, wiman (plural wimmen), literally "woman-man," alteration of wifman (plural wifmen) "woman, female servant" (8c.), a compound of wif "woman" (see wife) + man "human being" (in Old English used in reference to both sexes; see man (n.)). Compare Dutch vrouwmens "wife," literally "woman-man."

I'm ok with being a 'Daughter of Eve', for example. She was a curious and adventurous lass. Or a Daughter of Lilith even, on a really feisty day (it wouldn't take much at the moment to push me there).

Or, if we are really going to go there, perhaps Daughters of Durga (obviously with the capacity for manifesting Kali from our foreheads), or Freyja. Carriage drawn by cats and a cloak of hawk feathers? I'm in.

thecompletenonsequitur · 15/06/2018 10:39

WWP - Woman without prostate.

Ever so Spartacus.

Pratchet · 15/06/2018 10:40

Y but it means woman with prostate also. I vote for woman man etc to mean biology and something else for trans.

Pratchet · 15/06/2018 10:40

I mean I like transladies

Pratchet · 15/06/2018 10:41
sexnotgender · 15/06/2018 10:45

I will not be silenced.
I will not lie.
I am a pregnant hormonal WOMAN.

I am Spartacus.

thecompletenonsequitur · 15/06/2018 10:50

Pratchet yes, I though that straight after I posted.

MsMartini · 15/06/2018 10:53

I am Spartacus. Again and again and again.

hungryhippie · 15/06/2018 11:15

Im mainly a lurker but I am Spartacus

I have short hair, I dont wear make up or high heels but im still a woman.

Gender doesn't exist, its a social construct.

We are our sex, a man cannot become a woman and a woman cannot become a man.

Don't ever call me cis, i'm not cis, i'm a woman.

Caroline Criado Perez
www.carolinecriadoperez.com/campaigns

Caroline started and led this successful campaign.
In April Gillian Wearing’s statue commemorating the life of Suffragist Millicent Fawcett was unveiled in Parliament Square. Wearing’s bronze is not only the first ever monument to a woman to be erected in Parliament Square, it is also the first statue in the area to be designed by a woman. It was commissioned as part of this year's centenary of the 1918 Representation of the People Act that gave some women over the age of 30 the vote

Thank you Caroline

TimeLady · 15/06/2018 16:09

Mumsnet should print out Caroline's tweet and pin it on their wall.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 15/06/2018 16:14
