I am a woman.

I was a girl.

I am an adult human female.

Something a man can never be.

I am a woman.

People refer to me has her and she.

Sometimes said with deep contempt and misogyny.

I am a woman.

Something a male will never be.

I have a vagina and uterus.

I menstruate and have given birth.

I am a mother.

Something a male will never be.

I have been insulted, assaulted, belittled, dismissed, held back, intimidated, stereotyped, terrorised, mocked, shamed, humiliated because I am a woman.

Something a male can never be.

I feel insulted, appropriated, offended, anxious, tense, depressed, hurt and under siege, when a male claims to be a woman or anyone says a male can be female.

It is not civil or respectful to treat me this way.

I am a woman.

I am Spartacus.

I wonder if kate is ploughing her own particular furrow here

madja · 15/06/2018 00:28

Me too. I'm Spartacus.

AngryAttackKittens · 15/06/2018 00:37

Not allowed to say anything about a mod that could be deemed rude, remember? Whether "but that's not what Justine said" is considered rude will presumably become clear based on what's deleted in the other thread.

Pratchet · 15/06/2018 00:39

Oh sorry. Oh dear.

AngryAttackKittens · 15/06/2018 00:41

Ridiculous, innit?

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 15/06/2018 00:47

swede I'm so sorry to hear about your friends.

I don't understand the reference to Cancer Research though. I've obviously missed something. I'm sorry to sound insensitive but what is it that Cancer Research are doing?

Hey. I'm Spartacus too.

Just saying.

IamXXHearMeRoar · 15/06/2018 00:58

I was a tree climbing, trouser preferring girl and now I am a tree climbing trouser preferring woman.

I don't care what people wear and I don't care for people to tell me what I ought to wear. My chromosomes dictate my innate femininity, it is the science of me. I am a woman, I will always be a woman.

A man cannot become a woman or ever know what it is to be a woman. That is a scientific fact.

Purposely misguiding children on matters of their own biology is abuse.

I will not be complicit in the erasure of my sex.

I am Spartacus.

Who was Spartacus?

I have just googled him.

I thought this thread couldn't get any funnier (I will not die on this hill etc).

It got a hell of a lot funnier at that point. 😂 😂

Great letter Swede -

I hereby declare that from this time the word man is forbidden and all man/men are referred to as peoplewithtesticles- so peoplewithtesticalssplaining/ peoplewithtesticalsspreading/peoplewithtesticalschesterunited/peoplewithtesticalssfield/peoplewithtesticalsanager/
peoplewithtesticalsservant/
peoplewithtesticalsicurist

are now to be used instead of the peoplewithtesticals word.

What about the Bible? So God created peoplewithtesticalskind in his own image.

Ok it's growing on me - it's calling a spade a spade

womanformallyknownaswoman · 15/06/2018 03:49

I am Spartacus

NotBadConsidering · 15/06/2018 04:33

thebewilderness I don't normally look at YouTube comments but there's a brilliant one under that clip by someone called Benjamin Harris:

"You know what's weird, Centurion?"
"What's that sir?"
"That everyone is saying I'm Spartacus... except for that one guy right there."
"Oh you mean the one guy looking moved and choked up nearly to tears?"
"Yeah. He's just biting his lip."
"Right. I'm on it."

I'm Spartacus and so are my daughters. I'm fucking furious.

MilkSpill · 15/06/2018 05:32

I was not assigned female at birth, I was born a girl.

I was molested by a pedophile neighbour because he liked little girls.

I was sexually assaulted as a teenager because I was a teenage girl.

When I was an adult, my male co-worker and I both had babies within a few months of each other. My boss sent flowers to his wife, but made me redundant while on maternity leave, because I was a woman and a mother.

I endured obstetric violence and discrimination as a breastfeeding mother, because I am a woman.

I have suffered miscarriages and faced unwanted pregnancies. Because I am a woman.

I have been accused of transphobia for refusing to use the language of 'chest feeding' and 'pregnant persons'. I will never back down.

My sons are boys, my daughters are girls, and I am Spartacus.

I am a woman, an adult human female.

A man can never become a woman because humans can't change sex.

Transgenderism is a faith-based ideology and should be treated as other religions are.

I am Spartacus.

Undercoverswede · 15/06/2018 07:44

Good morning, and thank you for not thinking I'm mad (at least in that way).

Witchbitch, Cancer Research, no doubt trying to be well-meaning, removed the word 'woman' in their copy about screening for cervical cancer, while merrily keeping the word 'men' to discuss testicular cancer. For some reason this tipped me over the edge, perhaps because I recently lost a dear and very special friend to ovarian cancer, perhaps because it was the final drop in a cup now quite full of what might politely be termed bovine excrement.

If we are going to go nuclear with tone policing in society, surely it should be fair.

anotherpersona · 15/06/2018 08:02

Swede FlowersStarFlowers
Love the letter.

SunnyintheSun · 15/06/2018 08:04

Long time FWR lurker.

At school I was kicked off the cricket team at 13 because I was a girl.

The menstrual migraines I’ve suffered all my adult life have severely limited my career progression.

Giving birth to, and breastfeeding, my child has left my body scarred and my career on hold.

At work and outside of it I have been belittled, interrupted and insulted for no other reason than that I am a person with ovaries and a womb.

I am a woman.

I am Spartacus.

Shame on Mumsnet HQ.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 15/06/2018 08:09

This is madness. MN - don't make the mistake of thinking that this is about transphobia or a threat to trans rights because it is not. No one here is denying the human rights of any trans person. This is about the human rights of women and girls. For fairness, safety and human rights in sports, refuges, changing rooms, politics, work, life. Not that this seems to be as important as the feelings of
