I am a science teacher teaching secondary sex education and genetics

Ever single time. Every single time. Every single time.

I am being asked how men turn into women.

I say they can't. They turn into transwomen. These are men who change their bodies to be as much like women as possible, but are still men.

Every single time I teach pregnancy I am asked how men can do it.

Every single time we go through genetics I get a shocked response for saying "this is male, this is female"

Every single time I make any distinction between male and female I am asked "are you allowed to say that?

I equate being ordered to teach that men can become woman to previous generations of teachers being ordered to teach nazi race science.

I am quite sure I will be sacked one day

The wonderful world of TRA logic, with its relentlessly shifting sands.

The definition of a man is a woman who is going out of her way to look like one. The definition of a cis-man is not a woman who is going out of her way to look like a man.

The "but they're legally this sex" (which isn't what the law actually says) seems to be the last line of defense when all one's other arguments have failed. If you can't convince people, try to use the law to bully them into submission.

It's not working, but what else do they have?

Current lobbying in Ireland to challenge use of word 'woman' in new policies and legislation for abortion rights following the recent referendum result:

There have been a host of flawed and downright evil laws in history

I've tried this line of argument before with TAs, they just continue the line of "bigot" and how law is now "progressive" - apparently law does now trump biology! who knew!

daimbars · 11/06/2018 10:25

If you are disagreeing with the law and think the GRA should be repealed, well that's a different thread isn't it. I don't think you would get very far.

R0wantrees · 11/06/2018 10:27

There have been a host of flawed and downright evil laws in history. Are you going to defend those too? Slavery? Race-Segregated education policies? The Second Amendment?

Assigned I took Women's Studies as a subsiduary option inmy first year of an English Degree.

My first essay was 'Is there such a thing as 'marital rape'?
What some may not know was this was a very current issue:

'In 1991, rape within marriage became a crime. The 2003 Sexual Offences Act clarified the law, giving consent a legal definition in England and Wales'

Up until this point, the law had said there was no such thing as rape within marriage.

Of course there was and very bad law.

Pratchet · 11/06/2018 10:28

I'm telling you what the law says. It's you who disagrees with the law in claiming the law says she is male.

LangCleg · 11/06/2018 10:35

Daim. Answer the OP. Should questioning children in lessons about human reproduction be given accurate information. Yes or no? Answer Bowl. Should questioning children in lessons about human reproduction be told that humans can change sex? Yes or no?

Two questions with clear parameters requiring one word answers. Can you manage that without deflecting?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/06/2018 10:35

LOL @ being told it's a different thread by the star of obfuscation and derailing, Daim

daimbars · 11/06/2018 10:35

I wouldn't call the GRA an evil law.

daimbars · 11/06/2018 10:37

Lang I advised the OP how to respond to the kids yesterday at 12.54

Bowlofbabelfish · 11/06/2018 10:38

Well that’s good that you wouldn’t. I don’t think anyone on here has said it is, although I’m sure you’d like someone to do so to screen shot it.

Dragging the conversation back to the OP: can you answer the two questions above?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/06/2018 10:42

Neither did I. I said that law does not make something right or true.

Sex cannot be changed. No law can ever change the truth of that statement

Screenshot that

LangCleg · 11/06/2018 10:42

Lang I advised the OP how to respond to the kids yesterday at 12.54

Are you able to answer those two questions with clear yes/no responses? Two words. I'll wait.

LangCleg · 11/06/2018 10:43

I think we should sign off all our posts with screenshot that!

HornyTortoise · 11/06/2018 10:53

Still enjoying the science stuff. Iteresting how this thread that is about kids being taught correct biology instead of junk science nonsense has been attempted to be changed into a toilet thread, and a GRC one. And WHERE is the epigenetics explaination that was apparently coming to prove that bowl was wrong?! Was really looking forward to that.

And yes, I do personally think the GRC thing is a silly law, now. It served its purpose for what it was intended for though, which was to allow same sex couples to marry (so seems the GRC does not magically change someone into the opposite sex!) and for equal pension rights.

Sex cannot be changed. The transman above is a female attempting to look like a male to relieve their dysphoria (which a very small amount of trans people actually have) and transfish bollocks does not make humans have the ability to switch sexes at will.

Screenshot that!

AngryAttackKittens · 11/06/2018 10:54

I want to hear the epigenetics explanation! The last one attempted here by a TRA was hilarious.

Also I'm probably going to have pork dumplings and hot and sour soup for dinner. Screenshot that!

daimbars · 11/06/2018 10:55

Don't be silly Lang there are a lot of complex questions school kids can ask that can't be answered by a simple yes or no question.

What about 'can two lesbian women both be a child's mother?'

Pratchet · 11/06/2018 11:03

Not biologically no. Does this help, Daim.

daimbars · 11/06/2018 11:04

That's three words pratchet. Answer in one word?

Bowlofbabelfish · 11/06/2018 11:04

You either believe in something or you don’t. God, fairies, Sasquatch.

So this one is a yes/no. Can humans change sex?

Pratchet · 11/06/2018 11:05

Why?

Pratchet · 11/06/2018 11:05

That's easy to answer in one word

Pratchet · 11/06/2018 11:06

You could say on the change sex question

Not biologically or legally, no

Too many words so 'no' would do

daimbars · 11/06/2018 11:11

But you can legally. Just because you don't like the GRA it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
