I am a science teacher teaching secondary sex education and genetics

Ever single time. Every single time. Every single time.

I am being asked how men turn into women.

I say they can't. They turn into transwomen. These are men who change their bodies to be as much like women as possible, but are still men.

Every single time I teach pregnancy I am asked how men can do it.

Every single time we go through genetics I get a shocked response for saying "this is male, this is female"

Every single time I make any distinction between male and female I am asked "are you allowed to say that?

I equate being ordered to teach that men can become woman to previous generations of teachers being ordered to teach nazi race science.

I am quite sure I will be sacked one day

I’m still waiting for a concise layman’s explanation of how a human can change sex..

I'm reminded of eternity.

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 20:19

There's no 'male' or 'female' sex for a brain to actually be if you detach sex from reproductive role.

GibbertyFlibbert · 10/06/2018 20:19

"Embarrassingly I did think that intersex was the same as transgender! "

Although treated differently, scientifically they probably have the same origin.

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 20:19

I mean, one doesn't need a study. It's a priori.

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 20:20

Although treated differently, scientifically they probably have the same origin

Blither alert

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 20:21

Although treated differently, scientifically they probably have the same origin.

How? There’s no evidence for that assertion.

Still waiting for how humans can change sex...

GibbertyFlibbert · 10/06/2018 20:23

"I mean, one doesn't need a study. It's a priori."

That's not how science works. There are long proofs that 1 + 1 = 2. Even something that basic isn't a priori. So please post up the studies to support your claims.

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 20:24

I don't think you know what a priori means.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 20:24

I suggest you swap " chromosomes " for genes and add epigenetics and hormonal balance during pregnancy but in essence you are right

Epigenetics! My specialist subject. DO tell me how this influences sex allocation. All ears here.

Or is this another tool from the MRA/TRA science word salad playbook? Because epigenetics does sound so terribly impressive doesn’t it?

Do tell me how it works.... how autosomal genetics and epigenetics can change a man into a woman.

GibbertyFlibbert · 10/06/2018 20:24

"Still waiting for how humans can change sex..."

I posted that several pages back

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 20:26

You haven’t posted anything that even slightly, in the smallest way, shows how humans can change sex. I need you to explain to me, in your words that you have, how it works.

I await being educated.

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 20:26

lol another well worn tactic. Don't answer for ages then say 'I answered ages ago' to get people to trawl back.

GibbertyFlibbert · 10/06/2018 20:27

"You haven’t posted anything that even slightly, in the smallest way, shows how humans can change sex. I need you to explain to me, in your words that you have, how it works."

I did several hours ago

mancheeze · 10/06/2018 20:27

Blither alert

There's a woman on Twitter I follow who talks about FGM and some TA took this horrific abuse of females and twisted it around to make it sound like men in frocks were oppressed by FGM.

It blew my mind.

LangCleg · 10/06/2018 20:28

You’re popping down links from the TRA Big List Of Links without understanding or interpretation of what they mean.

Because it works on Twitter! You're just being unfair and bigot-y by knowing stuff.

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 20:28

No you didn't

noblegiraffe · 10/06/2018 20:28

That's not how science works. There are long proofs that 1 + 1 = 2.

That’s because that’s how maths works. Science works differently to maths.

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 20:31

Without reproductive role there is no 'sex' to ascribe to a brain.

I don't know how many different ways I have to articulate this in the hope that one day you may understand.

LemonJello · 10/06/2018 20:31

Embarrassingly I did think that intersex was the same as transgender!

Don’t be embarrassed Slane. It’s quite deliberate that you were led to believe that, as you can see from this thread.

LemonJello · 10/06/2018 20:34

Without reproductive role there is no 'sex' to ascribe to a brain.

^This. With great big bells on.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 20:37

I saw that mancheeze - narcissism writ large Sad

LemonJello · 10/06/2018 20:37

And if scientists did discover there is such a thing as a female brain (there isn’t) and that that a transwomans brain was the same as this ‘female brain’ that is only proof that that kind of brain also exists in men.

If there was a rare orchid that only grew on the slopes of Mount Everest and I found it growing in my back garden, is that proof that my back garden is Mount Everest?

GibbertyFlibbert · 10/06/2018 20:38

Again, what is noticeabe is that while I have been linking to scientific studies those on the other side are offering nothing

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 20:39

I linked you!

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/06/2018 20:39

You didn’t. You plopped down some link that talked about things like mosaicism.

Now mosaicism is fascinating and I could blather on about it for ages but it has nothing to do with humans changing sex.

how can humans change sex?
