Has anyone even totted up how much this is going to cost us?
So 650, 000 transgender people in the UK according to Maria Miller. If 10% of them have SRS then that is 65, 000.
So that's about 20K per person and then hormones for life on top of that presumably? What about face feminisation surgery? Is that free on the NHS? What about voice feminisation surgery? Is that free on the NHS?
Presumably there will be a larger proportion of men who want an operation to create breasts but want to keep their penis. So that will be cheaper. Thanks guys.
And some women will want a double mastectomy and some sort of penis construction. I can't imagine that is cheap either. And then testosterone for life? And again, some women won't want full SRS but want some surgery.
Not to mention further operations to put things right when they go wrong. Or if, like John Pilley, the first transgender person to get SRS in prison. And then decided afterwards that he wasn't a woman after all, so he got further SRS surgery to try to make him a man again.
And of course prisoners aren't paying any tax to fund this. And I suspect few of them paid any tax before they went into prison. And no employer will take on a convicted murderer when they get out, so not much likelihood of paying tax afterwards.
Can't help but feel that we'd have much fewer people identifying as the opposite sex if they had to pay their own surgical and medical bills.
