Crappest arguments used against feminism on social media

What are the crap 'positions' against feminism you see most often, and how do you reply?

One of my 'favourites' is when men respond with loads of stats about male suicide, women getting custody of kids, military deaths, rate of men murdered compared to women, in a manner saying 'HA! So much for the Patriarchy, huh, HUH?!'

As if a) we didn't realise any of these was a thing, b) these weren't generally caused by the Patriarchy in the first place and c) feminism is about thinking that every single man has it better than every single woman.

You also get 'Trump doesn't hate women, look at these women he employed!' - uhm yeah, we're actually beyond 'employing some women' being a sign of being supportive of women in general.

Another popular one is to find some totally extreme feminist saying that all men should be killed, castrated etc and claiming that this represents all feminism.

It's quite a special thread!

FermatsTheorem · 05/06/2018 09:08

Ha ha, he gets totally pwned on that thread. I particularly like that someone's posted the Horrible Histories literally song.

AngryAttackKittens · 05/06/2018 09:11

That thread was such a joy that I passed it on to some friends...

Me: I’m campaigning for AWS to get more women on boards
Lefty dude-bro: but what about
Me: huh? I’m talking about AWS
LDB: but How can you concentrate on something as trivial as AWS when there are so many other things you should be solving?
Me: But
LDB: (interrupts, because he is a man and therefore it is important to hear from him) Now now, you feminists are always forgetting there are other more important issues to solve before you can do anything else

rememberthetime · 05/06/2018 09:16

"There are laws in place that you can use if you are discriminated against"

Which apparently equals "sexism doesn't happen here".

or: "I don't want to call myself a feminist. I'm a humanist - I think feminism is discriminatory towards men because it ignores the stuff they have to face"

The clue is in the word feminism. It is about women. Men are more than capable of sorting out the stuff they face - aren't they?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 05/06/2018 09:21

That poor man. Imagine being an academic and having your actual object of study turn around and explain to you in so many words exactly why you're talking bullshit.

Ereshkigal · 05/06/2018 09:29

Yes the "I support equalism", "humanism" etc is a frequent theme.

Ereshkigal · 05/06/2018 09:29

Yes Tallulah Smile

AngryAttackKittens · 05/06/2018 09:30

"I support real feminists, like these anti-feminists" is my favorite.

Ereshkigal · 05/06/2018 09:32

Yes. "I support the type of feminist women who think males should be centred and women should sit the fuck down"

McFugget · 05/06/2018 09:56

On discussing prostitution with an acquaintance, "Women visit male escorts, what about those poor men?" Well I don't know any women who would pay for "consent".

J4nice · 05/06/2018 13:22

One argument said that feminists now are starting to claim they are male to use men's swimming pools and that they are hypocrites and that this is the kind of thing a feminist is against

Just what I've seen when browsing through threads

hackmum · 05/06/2018 13:41

I love the comments on that Twitter thread, especially: "I have literally only just seen this , so I hope I'm not too late. I am literally a woman , but I'm not sure I'm doing it right - think I might be falling short on the scientific & racial fronts "

Mumminmum · 08/06/2018 18:30

Dr Matt Lodder is just so eeeeeewww!!!!!

Mumminmum · 08/06/2018 18:31

yes, I am an academic and that is my academic response to him.

53rdWay · 08/06/2018 18:41

When confronted with views critical of prostitution as an institution: “Well what about the AGENCY of sex workers? Who are you to tell women what they can and can’t do with their bodies?”

Yes, we’re all just judgy sex-hating prudes, you got us. Hmm

Pratchet · 08/06/2018 20:40

I just assume that any man who goes to the trouble of defending prostitution on social media is a man who pays to rape women

Clionba · 08/06/2018 21:50

"you're being hysterical" - no, I'm making a point you disagree with
"you're being oversensitive" no, you're being insensitive

53rdWay · 08/06/2018 21:54

aye Pratchet, me too. Although of course when you ask them outright, they never have and don’t know anyone else who ever has and would never consider it, really, their interest is purely theoretical...

TransplantsArePlants · 09/06/2018 02:09

There's a doozie reason on the wolf whistle thread:

"You MN lot on this thread have so I'm totally re-thinking my sympathetic stance towards feminism"

TransplantsArePlants · 09/06/2018 02:11

shit, missed out vital word;. Try again

"You MN lot on this thread have upset me, so I'm totally re-thinking my previous sympathetic stance towards feminism"

Mind you, I can't be sure, but I'm not certain his pro-feminist stance was that deeply that deeply or sincerely held

"Women do it tooooooooooooooooooo"

"Feminism has gone too far"

"I watched this amazing film, have you seen it? It's called The Red Pill and it was made by an actual feminist, not like you man hating harridans"
