Gentlemen I salute you, in particular Amy and the spectacular lime green mankini. I wish I was half as brave.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 29/05/2018 08:38

Well done! This points out the double-standards nicely.

Sarahconnor1 · 29/05/2018 08:40

I took one for the team and had a peak at the DM. Most of the top rated comments get it, the ones that didn't were being corrected.

IndominusRex · 29/05/2018 08:49

Great work lads! To me the only fault with the DM article was that it didn't make clear that men are already exploiting self ID.

flowersonthepiano · 29/05/2018 08:52

Well done! This highlights the idiocy of self-ID beautifully.

UpstartCrow · 29/05/2018 08:52

If you google 'Daily Mail', its the top story on their web page.

Yes @R0wantrees I still have it. PM me an email address and I’ll ping it across.

boatyardblues · 29/05/2018 09:04

There is smoke coming off the comments section of that DM article!

LizzieSiddal · 29/05/2018 09:04

Yes it is the top story on the website.

Just WOW ManFriday, you’re awesome!

The article doesn’t have all the points (why didn’t they mention the fact women had complained about men being in the women only pond, in January?) BUT if you look at the top comments, they are all in support of your protest.

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/05/2018 09:05

How do so many people making the comments miss the point...

LangCleg · 29/05/2018 09:11

YesItsADebate The mankini! Oh, my eyes!

meddie · 29/05/2018 09:12

Brilliant. I have said for a long time this wont be given any attention until it affects men. Need to follow this up with mass complaints to hampstead heath pond about how bigoted and transphobic they are for not allowing our fellow men into the pool. Its what the TRA's would do. They would complain vociferously abut this transphobia because thats how we got to this position in the first place.

YesItsADebate · 29/05/2018 09:15

Sarahconnor1 that’s one outfit that’s gone straight in the bin. Hideous!

NotARegularPenguin · 29/05/2018 09:15

Well done gents. Lead story in the DM. Shame some of the actual men quoted have missed the point of the protest completely but good to see the police say “if this happened at the women’s pond we’d deal with that too”.

I’m desperate to know what the people in charge of the ponds have to say about this. Why did the lifeguards call the police if it’s pond policy to let self identifying peop,e use the pond of their choice? Are they going to continue to say that they allow men to use the women’s pond?

I’m just a bit disappointed that months and months ago I said we should do this and then it happened and I didn’t get an invite! Grin

Waddlelikeapenguin · 29/05/2018 09:16

The mankini & the swim cap!! You are gods (goddesses? It's neither Monday nor Friday Grin)

R0wantrees · 29/05/2018 09:17

Petition to Parliament:
"Consult with women on proposals to enshrine 'gender identity' in law
The government proposes to amend the law to allow people to self-identify as men or women, and to stop allowing organisations in sensitive situations to exclude people of the opposite birth sex. We call for women to be consulted on how to protect women and girls' rights, safety, privacy and dignity."

YesItsADebate · 29/05/2018 09:19

Oops, sorry NotAPenguin! We kept it very tightly under wraps to avoid being drowned by TRAs.

Bowlofbabelfish · 29/05/2018 09:21

Right now someone female needs to complain about a man in the women’s pool.

And when they are told they are transphobic, they need to ask why women were removed from the men’s but not vice versa.

I am stunned that this is top story in the DM. It’s fantastic.

Hope the sky coverage is understanding the issues as well.

SwearyG · 29/05/2018 09:24

That’s my plan for the summer, Bowlofbabelfish. I have the time and inclination to go and stalk the ladies pond every day if needs be.

NotARegularPenguin · 29/05/2018 09:24

yesitsadebate. It’s ok, main thing is it happened. But I would have loved to have been there!

R0wantrees · 29/05/2018 09:28

NotARegularPenguin

Perhaps unknowingly the men quoted in the Daily Mail articulate many of the issues and women's concerns about the possible implications of self-id?

From the article, men's quotes:

'Women have their own pool where they can bathe topless. This is absolutely ridiculous. This has been here since Victorian times!'
Women have their own female-only pool, we have ours and if you want to swim with men then go to the mixed pond."

"One man shouted: 'They aren't men!' Another said: 'This is ludicrous. If I turned up at the female-only pond and claimed to be a woman I would never get let in. This is our space and that's how it should stay."

"There were some men annoyed because they felt their privacy had been invaded and some who were concerned about photography."

"The rules need clarity."

powershowerforanhour · 29/05/2018 09:31

Good lads.

NotARegularPenguin · 29/05/2018 09:32

No I agree that they’re making good points.....the same ones we’ve been making! Just a shame they haven’t realised that actually the pool staff have said it’s ok for men to use the women’s pond! And that’s why the protest took place to highlight the stupidity of it.

Bowlofbabelfish · 29/05/2018 09:34

Good on you sweary - I’m so happy you are doing this. I admire you greatly!!

ApplesinmyPocket · 29/05/2018 09:36

Absolutely brilliant! well done!

That mankini - funny and so brave!

Glad the DM have covered it, but I felt the rage rising all over again at the odd angry comment about 'imagining the positions reversed, if a man turned up at the ladies' pond!' when we KNOW the likely thing is that a woman protesting would be called a vile bigot, told she should go elsewhere if it made her uncomfortable, and asked to re-educate herself Angry

But the more #manfriday gets itself in the news, the more people WILL wake up.

I'm just so proud of you brave women, Amy and Sweary Flowers
