That's utterly chilling. Venice is talking about a child being taken out of the country by a parent to have part of their genitals surgically removed (mentioning that it's illegal in the UK) and the bit Munroe thinks needs challenging is that Venice used the 'wrong' pronoun for the child.
Channel 4 should have left it in. The fact that they didn't speaks volumes.
This is a serious child protection issue.

Ereshkigal · 19/05/2018 11:25

Remember that MB had a lot of control over this documentary.

Datun · 19/05/2018 11:25

Oh dear, Channel 4, what a giveaway. How come this interview laying out the context of child protection and safeguarding with regard to children with a trans identity didn't make it into the show?

Totally agree with this comment. Genital surgery for 16-year-olds was, and is, illegal in this country. So SG took her child to a country where it wasn't. On the back of that it became illegal there.

It is deemed wrong and inappropriate in this country. And yet the woman who did it is now heading a charity that advises other parents over exactly the same issue. And being given awards for it!

MB can disagree as much as they like, but they are, irrefutably, in the wrong. According to all the gender clinics, the NHS, and the law. So why are they coming across as self-righteous?

This is a dangerous ideology.

UpstartCrow · 19/05/2018 11:28

I'm so angry. MB talks over Venice, constantly. And doesn't listen at all.

And I'm sick of activists being more concerned with the pronouns and 'gender identity' of children than their physical safety.

I think it's a form of DARVO. "Look over there!"

And being given awards for it!

Not to mention public funds. I sincerely believe Mermaids will go the way of Kids Company one day, but the fall out will be orders of magnitude larger. Let's not forget that Kids Company also got involved in fake science (brain scans) that attempted to show that poor mothers and black mothers were so bad at parenting that they damaged the brains of their kids. And that this was actually fawned over and lauded by the Grauniad. I can't be the only person with deja vu.

Listening to it again, I thought it was unwise for MB to try to challenge Venice by asking "do you think it's right to host events and give a platform to those promoting hate speech?" and not expect her to put that into context. MB wanted Venice to answer yes or no, and didn't want her to explain that Posie hasn't been charged or found guilty of hate speech, never mind the subject matter.

I think it demonstrates how unchallenged TIM are in the media. MB wasn't able to speak over Venice and didn't have a sympathetic host to jump in to stop Venice speaking. MB therefore had to change the focus to misgendering, because it's all they have. Basically, it doesn't matter what is happening to children and to women's ability to speak, misgendering to MB is the bigger problem.

I wonder how Munroe feels about his male socialisation conversational style laid bare like this

I doubt that it would cross MB mind that that's how they come across.

Some of the deletions on here are a little odd.

JoanSummers · 19/05/2018 18:29

I didn't notice anything here that seemed delete worthy? Maybe I missed some correct pronouns..

Baroquehavoc · 19/05/2018 18:30

I'm sure one of the posts was just a transcript of the recording.

JoanSummers · 19/05/2018 18:36

You're right. Why would that be deleted? Very odd.

OldmanOfTheWeb3 · 19/05/2018 18:46

I doubt that will stay up long. I can't figure out how to download it but suggest that anyone who can, should, so it can keep being shared.

I've downloaded it and have a copy if it vanishes. A fairly easy to way to grab YouTube videos is to use Firefox and install this extension:

addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube_downloader_webx/

Just go to that using Firefox and click "+ Add to Firefox". You'll get a little "yD" icon in the top right which you can click on to download the video you're watching.

Hope that helps.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 19/05/2018 18:54

I would appreciate a copy or the transcript, thanks.

NotTerfNorCis · 19/05/2018 19:17

Why was my post deleted? It was just a transcript of the linked video.

TERFragetteCity · 19/05/2018 19:19

Presumably they don't want people reading words that actually happened.

Opheliah · 19/05/2018 19:27

It's the thing about talking about other children's genitals that are the problem I think.

doctorcuntybollocks · 19/05/2018 19:30

Talking about a child's genitals is distasteful; cutting off a child's genitals is heroic.

mancheeze · 19/05/2018 19:34

So if the child was a 'daughter', why would she have to have 'her' dick inverted and 'her' balls removed?

LOL.

Trans are hilarious the way they mangle language.

thebewilderness · 19/05/2018 20:47

I'm beginning to think misgendering is the biggest issue TIM face. Or they see stopping misgendering as a stepping stone to something else. Every conversation with TIM involves them policing women's language, and the demands are getting more outlandish.

It is obedience training. Control the words people can speak and you control the thoughts people can think.

thebewilderness · 19/05/2018 20:49

MNHQ has said several times that talking about this child is not OK.
