From petition page (click here to sign)
Nora is a Sudanese 19 year old female who is facing a death sentence because 2 years ago she was forced to marry a man. She refused having sex with him for 5 days so he called his brother & cousins who helped him in raping her. Next day she killed him when he tried sleeping with her again. Nora is being kept in prison since then and the court issued her death sentence about a week ago. She has no social support because her family dumped her and her legal defense was provided by formal legal aid.

Confusingly a second change.org petition as well, please sign both!

It seems that the court has convened again and death sentence has been confirmed. She has 15 days to appeal.

It seems that in Sudanese law marital rape is not illegal Angry

I’m trying to see if there’s an Amnesry IAR for Noura with details for who to contact directly to support her (Sudanese ministers, judges etc) if anyone finds anything more about this please add.

Otherwise please sign the petition and keep bumping the thread, pile global pressure on Sudan, and try and save Noura’s life.

Signed. This is bloody horrific.

NatLuc · 11/05/2018 17:19

Signed both. Why are people so evil and heartless.

theaveragewife · 11/05/2018 17:32

It’s impressive to see how quickly the signatures are coming in - I hope it means something, I worry a country that cares this little about women won’t take notice of a petition!

I am hoping that petitions can be used to show global support when campaign organisations such as Equality Now are pressing the Sudanese government.

I have been wondering about how appropriate or not it would be for foreign representitives to pressure Sudan - especially us given we colonised them - but actually, when it comes to trying to save the life of a women sentenced to execution for killing a man who had raped her and was attempting to do so again.... I can cope with being accused of colonialism.

Signed, and wondering if there's any indication that any Sudanese powers-that-be are noticing, or better yet getting nervous about the attention?

Articles appearing in major papers, Guardian, NYTimes, no doubt elsewhere.

I hope this builds fast enough to do poor Noura any good.

Misogyny is where racism was at in 1820. The most vicious and lethal forms of it are shoulder shrug, whatchagonnado, just the way things are.

Also is it worth posting something under 'am I being unreasonable' for traffic? x

Amnesty are no longer interested in supporting women and girls.
There is a thread on here cincerning this.
I will try and find it.

endofagain · 13/05/2018 14:58

Amnesty International is straight up trolling women now
Don't know if the link will work because I am struggling to copy it on my phone.

endofagain · 13/05/2018 14:59

Sorry. The thread is in feminist chat.

Cwenthryth · 13/05/2018 19:30

Bump for the evening

I knew amnesty had gone all sex posi, I didn’t think they’d be straight up ignoring women facing the death penalty for defending themselves against rape.
