Nora is a Sudanese 19 year old female who is facing a death sentence because 2 years ago she was forced to marry a man. She refused having sex with him for 5 days so he called his brother & cousins who helped him in raping her. Next day she killed him when he tried sleeping with her again. Nora is being kept in prison since then and the court issued her death sentence about a week ago. She has no social support because her family dumped her and her legal defense was provided by formal legal aid.

Confusingly a second change.org petition as well, please sign both!

It seems that the court has convened again and death sentence has been confirmed. She has 15 days to appeal.

It seems that in Sudanese law marital rape is not illegal

I’m trying to see if there’s an Amnesry IAR for Noura with details for who to contact directly to support her (Sudanese ministers, judges etc) if anyone finds anything more about this please add.

Otherwise please sign the petition and keep bumping the thread, pile global pressure on Sudan, and try and save Noura’s life.

Thankyou everyone so far. This has really really upset me. Reading how the man’s family were given the options of a long prison sentence or death, they chose death and were whooping and celebrating outside of the court. It’s sickening. And how many women and girls are trapped in forced marriages, being regularly raped, in the first place. Would a man have been sentenced to death for killing his wife, I wonder?

All this going on and then you have wealthy white gay male British doctors, speaking publicly under their professional guises, excusing forced child marriage/sexual abuse of women and girls on Twitter trying to claim they’re being woke and culturally sensitive

Flitting between livid and despair this morning. Also cannot find any Amnesty urgent action for this case, and Equality Now who in that guardian article is supporting Noura and “will write to the president” has urgent actions on its website too but not one for this either.
