Dittany - where is she now?

Just reading a reference to dittany on another thread & was struck by the feeling that in the current climate she's sorely missed (by me, maybe others too). Did anyone know her IRL? I often wonder where she went, what she's doing now with her feminism. I'd love her to make a triumphant return!

I only lurked back in 'her day' and found her posts challenging (in a good way - made me stop & think & question my own in built ideas, prejudices, and a lifetime of female socialisation - I was a crap feminist, of the 'it's all been done, I don't have anything left to do but enjoy the freedoms already fought for) type. I'm still a million miles behind others but I'm trying to do betterSmile

So Wine to you dittany, wherever you are now & thanks for jolting me out of my ignorant feminist slumber Flowers

One of these days dittany will come storming back and tear a strip off the lot of us for talking behind her back. I hope Smile

MadMags · 10/05/2018 23:08

Scottishmummy was no feminist icon. She was just mean.

Yep. And let's be clear here; she has fans because people thought she was funny. But it was real people she was consistently pretty vicious to. 99% for no reason than to play to her sycophants. Odd, really.

The fem board went through a really bizarre time. I remember how vilified its prolific posters were, like they should be ashamed of being intelligent women.

That would be ace!

AntiGrinch · 10/05/2018 23:08

@thebewilderness, Dittany made a huge impact on a lot of people and, as has been pointed out, put in many, many, many hours of hard work doing so. I am sure she is being remembered in the right ways - certainly by me.

If you can write to her you might tell her how fondly and respectfully we are talking about her - and then it's not behind her back :)

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 10/05/2018 23:10

Omg lass didnt bold!!!

I knew my love of exclamation marks would be my undoing

Damn you excessive punctuation!!

ErrolTheDragon · 10/05/2018 23:10

I think she was targeted in rl by MRAs, which is why she left - I don’t think it was real mn posters. Just trolling vicious vindictive MRAs. Not TRAs. It was pretty messy with FWR off the beaten track for posters safety. Lots of doxxing which was just called outing then. Horrific.

Yes, I thought it was due to doxxing (as we didn't call it then), hence the need to remove all posts.Sad

MadMags · 10/05/2018 23:12

Though MM is positively tame compared to the trolls of today!

@Anyfucker how long has it been since your last ban hammer?! Grin

"The fem board went through a really bizarre time. I remember how vilified its prolific posters were, like they should be ashamed of being intelligent women."

yes there was this constant sneering and sniping about nonsense like "you said I wasn't a feminist because I shave my legs" and people were saying, well, no I didn't say that, but why do you care anyway if you hate feminists so much? It was quite funny really. Seems like a completely different era.

I have to admit I didn't take part in the discussion around forming a FWR section and had I, I would have been against it. My reasoning was that 98% of all the good advice on all the issues posters on MN face is feminist; I didn't agree that it should be siloed off as a minority / niche position. All the whining about "mean feminists" seemed temporarily to imply that those fears were realised; but overall I think I was wrong, in that having a pole to cluster around has I think strengthened the, ahem, consciousness raising that mn has performed

Several years, Mags. I am a very sedate old lady these days. Hardly even a post deletion to my name.

Badgerthebodger · 10/05/2018 23:14

LRD I have completely missed you being around! Hope you are enjoying the baby. I think last time we spoke I (under a previous name) was suggesting things to help your wife be more comfortable during a hell of a pregnancy. Hope you are all well and having a lovely time with the little oneSmile

I think I vaguely remember the dittany stuff but...I didn’t really think I was a feminist then and so it didn’t really register Blush

While we’re having a fawning thread there are so many posters on here who are clear, articulate, intelligent and generally brilliant. I’m glad I found this corner of the internet, it’s been the making of me in a lot of different ways.

MadMags · 10/05/2018 23:14

I don't remember the sock puppet outing. That's why she left, presumably? Did she comment on it, or just disappear?

Couldn't resist posting on this one. So many familiar faces!

I miss Dittany too. She radicalised me. I was really pleased to have met her. And am so sorry to hear her posts have been deleted.

I was around and active back then but just lurk these days.

MadMags · 10/05/2018 23:16

A veritable angel these days! Shock

Xenophile · 10/05/2018 23:17

No Mags, that's not why she left.

MadMags · 10/05/2018 23:17

@AntiGrinch I don't mean to be all "twas all fields round here" about it, but it really was a different era.

AnyFucker · 10/05/2018 23:18

Not really Mags. Maybe just shifted my activism elsewhere Wink

MadMags · 10/05/2018 23:19

@Xenophile thanks. I don't know how I missed that...did it definitely happen or was it just suspected? !

LRDtheFeministDragon · 10/05/2018 23:20

Hi badger. Yes, I am enjoying the little one! She's walking (running!) now and dragging me all over the place. It's great. Smile

MadMags · 10/05/2018 23:20

Glad to hear it, AF!

Don't like to think of you blunting your edges! Wink

LRD Flowers

Xenophile · 10/05/2018 23:21

Mags, it definitely didn't happen.

MadMags · 10/05/2018 23:23

She defended it on the basis of it being an exercise in looking at whatever was being discussed from another point of view.

Really?! Surprised to hear that...
