Dittany - where is she now?

Just reading a reference to dittany on another thread & was struck by the feeling that in the current climate she's sorely missed (by me, maybe others too). Did anyone know her IRL? I often wonder where she went, what she's doing now with her feminism. I'd love her to make a triumphant return!

I only lurked back in 'her day' and found her posts challenging (in a good way - made me stop & think & question my own in built ideas, prejudices, and a lifetime of female socialisation - I was a crap feminist, of the 'it's all been done, I don't have anything left to do but enjoy the freedoms already fought for) type. I'm still a million miles behind others but I'm trying to do betterSmile

So Wine to you dittany, wherever you are now & thanks for jolting me out of my ignorant feminist slumber Flowers

I'm loving this 'old school roll call', so many posters who also awakened my feminist instincts. Dittany stood out to me though, because she was so uncompromising. Which is interesting as I do also love the patience and clarity from the likes of Datun & Offred as mentioned (that AGP thread gave me chills reading it, you could see the scales falling from so many eyes 👀)

Beachcomber, LRD, and probably countless others WineWineWine

LRD still posts sometimes but maybe not about feminism. Buffy was worn out by the MRAs, I think.

Dittany was waving red flags about the trans stuff back in 2011/2012. I hadn't realised it was becoming such a thing until then. I didn't agree with her on everything by any means, but I learnt so much from her uncompromising woman-centred feminism.

Xenophile · 10/05/2018 21:43

LRD is still around and still as awesome as she ever was. I'm slightly wetting myself at the idea of her being condescending, I can't imagine anyone less so.

Buffy I doubt will be back. I believe she just got tired of being jumped on by a couple of people any time she said anything, no matter how well thought out and compassionate and is now living a full and amazing life surrounded by people who recognise her brilliance. They say the best revenge is a life well lived.

I hope Dittany is ok. I owe her an apology. She was not fluffy and that was jarring to me, now I understand why and how it's perfectly fine to not be fluffy, especially to men.

UrsulaPandress · 10/05/2018 21:49

I too would love to know the sentence posie

ThenCameTheFools · 10/05/2018 21:50

I adored Dittany. She was very kind to me.
LRD is fab.
Posie, I had you on FB a million years ago. I don't post usually in this section, indeed not much at all tbh, but watched your video the other day. I'm.thinking of discussing it all with my students.

OrchidInTheSun · 10/05/2018 21:50

Dittany is awesome, as is LRD (who is still posting) and Buffy (who is not posting but is well).

MadMags · 10/05/2018 21:53

Dittany wasn’t hounded off because of trans issues, if memory serves. (NC).

I don’t know if she was even hounded as such. There was shite on both sides.

But a wonderful feminist, no doubt!

Scottishmummy always gets mentioned on these threads but she was horrible and I’m so glad she’s not posting anymore, or if she namechanged, she seems to have thankfully toned it down a bit!

sciencemad · 10/05/2018 21:53

A Dittany thread on Roman Polanski in 2009 made me a radfem.

MadMags · 10/05/2018 21:53

Buffy was great!

Don’t recognise LRD!

Popchyk · 10/05/2018 21:56

Talking of blasts from the past, Xenia was on a thread quite recently. I know she's namechanged loads but is back as Xenia now.

She was posting on a thread and made one post about how she'd now sold her island (in response to being asked; she wasn't boasting). The next post I noticed was her saying that she thought self-ID was ludicrous.

It was a very satisfying Xenia moment for me. It felt like all was right with the world.

Midthreademergencynamechange · 10/05/2018 21:57

Dittany left because of massive infighting over the Feminism boards on Mumsnet, years before they became dominated by the trans subject. Never a week went by without someone claiming to have been ridiculed and bullied by the feminists on Mumsnet Feminism.

PositivelyPERF · 10/05/2018 22:00

I was reading an old thread recently, started by an AGP man who wanted to talk about his female alter-ego and how much "the girls" enjoyed his company that he was invited on a hen do. Most people were supportive, then someone came in to say, actually, this is offensive to women and this is why.

Oh gad! I remember that, and am cringing at how niave I was. Makes me shudder to think I was actually supportive of that creep. Thanks to so many wonderful women on Mumsnet, my eyes were well and truly opened. Once the realisation hits, there’s no way of going back.

MadMags · 10/05/2018 22:02

I remember that thread!

Didnt Dittany leave after the rigmarole about what to actually call the fem boards?!

Greymisty · 10/05/2018 22:04

Hmm what did you lot do to each other back in the day?!

Scottishmummy always gets a mention on 'what happened to...' threads. I imagine her to be a bit marmite.

Baroquehavoc · 10/05/2018 22:09

All I remember about scottishmummy is her complaining about creepy wee bracket all of the time.

MadMags · 10/05/2018 22:10

I literally don't remember any redeeming features.

IrenetheQuaint · 10/05/2018 22:10

scottishmummy is very much still around! Her style is unmistakable.

DailyMailClickbait · 10/05/2018 22:10

I miss Dittany. I was on the thread where we all banded together to ask MNHQ to create a Feminism topic (under my old, pre-Jeffrey profile). It was unanimously agreed that she should be the one to contact MNHQ to ask for it. It was a really proud moment when we saw the 'Feminism' appear for the first time in the talk subjects.

niska · 10/05/2018 22:12

I love scottishmummy and I'm glad she's still around.

KatherinaMinola · 10/05/2018 22:13

scottishmummy is still about? Grin I would have thought I'd recognize that style anywhere! Give me a clue where to find her.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 10/05/2018 22:19

@ellie232 I actually printed out one of WhenwillIfeelnormal's post and stuck it to my fridge after my marriage broke down. It was a description of passive aggressive behaviour and had made me see the light.

niska · 10/05/2018 22:19

Aha, the scottishmummy fan club reassembles...

StVincent · 10/05/2018 22:25

Ooh I remember asking for a feminism board too. What a long time ago! Also remember the idea for a "we believe her" campaign for MN to back rape victims. It was amazing. MN was a mum support site but I feel like we all helped make it a women supporting site. I was ElephantsAndMiasmas back then, AGES ago.

KatherinaMinola · 10/05/2018 22:28

I remember you, Elephants Smile

CarysMa · 10/05/2018 22:31

I remember her. She really made me think
