Dittany - where is she now?

Just reading a reference to dittany on another thread & was struck by the feeling that in the current climate she's sorely missed (by me, maybe others too). Did anyone know her IRL? I often wonder where she went, what she's doing now with her feminism. I'd love her to make a triumphant return!

I only lurked back in 'her day' and found her posts challenging (in a good way - made me stop & think & question my own in built ideas, prejudices, and a lifetime of female socialisation - I was a crap feminist, of the 'it's all been done, I don't have anything left to do but enjoy the freedoms already fought for) type. I'm still a million miles behind others but I'm trying to do betterSmile

So Wine to you dittany, wherever you are now & thanks for jolting me out of my ignorant feminist slumber Flowers

Oh, no, I am exceptionally certain it's Friday. It has been one of those weeks. I'm counting the hours, believe me.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 11/05/2018 14:58

My office is a ghost town at the mo. Just little ole me. But it's good as it means I can sit on my phone for a bit without hiding it under leaves of paper.

Quimby · 11/05/2018 15:01

Or because someone reported it and as the previous threads/posts have been deleted they can’t verify either way

Just pointing out that your gloating or their deletion doesn’t prove it one way or the other

If mn said to you they checked and it was false then that would prove it

For the record
Big fan of beachcomber and buffy

Could not stand distantly, actually preferred daft punk to her

Quimby · 11/05/2018 15:02

*Dittany

LRDtheFeministDragon · 11/05/2018 15:06

Well, I suppose so, but I don't follow why they'd delete them otherwise. My point is they don't randomly delete posts for the sake of it.

QuentinSummers · 11/05/2018 15:07

LRD I agree with you

ErrolTheDragon · 11/05/2018 15:14

Meanwhile, I'm far more distracted than I should be by trying to remember what the heck LRD stands for - is at an acronym from a previous name which was too long when the 'feminist dragon' part was added? (Can't have too many dragons, obv. Or too many feminists. Dragon)

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 11/05/2018 15:17

I loved Buffy's posts. She was so effortlessly eloquent and her intelligence just pierced through each thread.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 11/05/2018 15:44

Boringly, it was Little Red Dragon (from the Ivor the Engine series), and it is really clunky because it repeats. But I liked it and I stuck with it.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 11/05/2018 15:46

Oh my god i loved that dragon!!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 11/05/2018 15:47

Me too! My Welsh grandpa used to read it to me with a very Welsh accent.

Dittany - where is she now?
IrenetheQuaint · 11/05/2018 17:11

Oh that is my all-time favourite episode of Ivor the Engine!

DioneTheDiabolist · 11/05/2018 18:22

I'm another one who misses Buffy. This board is less without her voice. I am delighted that her fabulousness is being recognised IRL, but I wish she'd drop in occasionally.

And I have definitely seen Lass be sort of kind on at least one thread. Grin

Ekphrasis · 11/05/2018 20:59

Very interesting thread.

I was Anyfuckered under a different name about 4-5 years ago on a relationship thread I started and although it confused me and smarted it was the beginnings of me recognising my female socialisation within relationships, finding a voice, getting very angry, learning about feminism, the patriarchy and misogyny (I don't even think I'd ever heard/ registered what the word meant till about 5 years ago) and actually someone a million times stronger.

Noticed these boards when Spartacus happened; didn't understand it so lurked and that was step two to becoming gender critical and rad fem.

LaSqrrl · 11/05/2018 23:04

I think you went off for no reason.

That is what happens when my BS-Detector goes off. Perhaps I should have articulated it better in breaking it down. But the BS was there. An actual statement that would make sense is "my father was a Nice Guy, so I did not see the misogyny around me (shielded)". The other scenario is nonsensical.

Magpiesarehuge · 12/05/2018 00:53

So is Buffy a well known gendercritter in RL then? Is it a secret?

thebewilderness · 12/05/2018 02:09

I think that, perhaps, you forget those women brought up by misogynists, as I was.
My dad actually went to my school and complained when we were taught about suffragettes. I found my first contact with a feminist - my English teacher - a terrifying experience because, in my eyes, she was so radical and taught us such dangerous things about women’s rights and having our own voices.

You can eff right off with your Oppression Olympics.

This is not a good thread for the Squirrel and I because we are the ones who comforted her when she was being abused here.
I am going to hide this thread now and I strongly recommend that @LaSqrrl does the same.

auntycartmanslargertesticle · 12/05/2018 05:33

How does one go about getting anyfuckered? I'm asking for a friend.

Mamaryllis · 12/05/2018 05:47

I am lol that academic feminism and Dittany are being discussed on the same thread. She’d be right pissed about that iirc. I’m pretty sure she was utterly scathing about academia. Grin

Skatingfastonthinice · 12/05/2018 06:05

She was, and iirc was one of the reasons that Stewie left. I do miss Buffy.

WomanWithAltitude · 12/05/2018 06:38

Another one who remembers the 'buffy sock puppet thread' here, and another one who remembers it as an honest mistake. Maybe give it a rest, Lass? Buffy isn't here any more.

Out of interest why /how did Buffy, Dittany, Stewiegriffinsmum and others get their whole posting history deleted?

There are huge gaps on older threads -all marked message removed at poster's request.

Mine will be included in that (under different names), and I'm happy to explain. The whole F4J / Jeff / hackergate thing kicked off just as I'd finished testifying in a rape trial. The man was found guilty, but was immediately given bail again for two months, despite the conviction.

I was quite reasonably worried about the lack of data security alongside very outing posts (as I'd posted here for support in the run up to the trial), and a violent man with a grudge against me being out on bail.

So that's why mine were deleted. Are you going to paint that as sinister?

nooka · 12/05/2018 06:38

I was around at the beginning of the FWR board, although mostly lurking as being in a different time zone tends to mean that conversations are almost over by the time I finish reading them and want to contribute. They were at times a bit hard to read and could be quite combative, but I think in general that's not a bad thing. The FWR boards are so nasty threads were (and continue to be) very irritating. I liked Buffy's intellectual / academic posts and StewieGriffithsMum who I remember as being kind, although it's hard to recall that accurately without being able to reread stuff. Shame so much was deleted.

WomanWithAltitude · 12/05/2018 06:41

I miss the old days too. The trans issue does matter, and having gender critical voices out there is inportant, but... the board seems to be so monopolised by it at the moment, and some of the 'rad fems' posting under the anti trans banner are indistinguishable from plain old fashioned bigots. I really worry about where some of it is going.

nooka · 12/05/2018 06:48

Thinking about it, maybe it was Stewie's posts that were academic and Buffy's that were kind. Memory (and names) has never been my strong point. What I do recall is lots of really interesting and thought provoking conversations as well as some threads that were pretty frustrating. Maybe because of the accuracy vs passion issue raised earlier (I trained in public health so evidence based discussion is really important to me).
