Dittany - where is she now?

Just reading a reference to dittany on another thread & was struck by the feeling that in the current climate she's sorely missed (by me, maybe others too). Did anyone know her IRL? I often wonder where she went, what she's doing now with her feminism. I'd love her to make a triumphant return!

I only lurked back in 'her day' and found her posts challenging (in a good way - made me stop & think & question my own in built ideas, prejudices, and a lifetime of female socialisation - I was a crap feminist, of the 'it's all been done, I don't have anything left to do but enjoy the freedoms already fought for) type. I'm still a million miles behind others but I'm trying to do betterSmile

So Wine to you dittany, wherever you are now & thanks for jolting me out of my ignorant feminist slumber Flowers

If you want to defend a sock puppeteer go right ahead.

Thank you for your kind permission, but since I have no idea who you are talking about or why you are so nasty to everyone all the time I shall pass.

LassWiADelicateAir · 11/05/2018 01:27

Out of interest why /how did Buffy, Dittany, Stewiegriffinsmum and others get their whole posting history deleted?

There are huge gaps on older threads -all marked message removed at poster's request.

thebewilderness · 11/05/2018 01:30

Same way the ones who are worried about the data breach are getting their removed. Request MNHQ.

Well you (general you) are always going on in FWR about the tyranny of female socialisation to be nice and never speaking out perhaps I have avoided it.

I did ask once as I was worried that a poster was going to out who I am in real life. They wouldn't do it wholesale. I was told to identify specific posts.

thebewilderness · 11/05/2018 01:37

They will do it for you if you close your account.

I did close the account. They still wouldn't do a wholesale deletion.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 11/05/2018 01:59

lass there is quite a difference between being blunt (which more women should try) and being sneering (which is what you generally do).

KataraJean · 11/05/2018 03:04

I remember you too Elelphants - you wrote me some helpful posts on the support board when I was being drawn back into an abusive relationship and all over the place. I have NCd since then.

It is nice to see Xenia back as well. It was reassuring to see her response to self-ID and the impact on equality.

Only half way through the thread. I came onto the feminism boards maybe in 2011, there were many varied topics. It strikes me that one way the TRA tactics are like coercive control is the monopoly of perception.

Off to continue reading

BertrandRussell · 11/05/2018 06:25

I am surprised to hear Lass being described as sneering and unpleasant. While her refusal to identify as a feminist is very frustrating, she is consistently clear and absolutely right about porn and prostitution - a radical feminist ally on that particular subject - and I have never seen her anything but calm and courteous.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 11/05/2018 06:35

bertrand maybe you’ve never caught the sharp end of her tongue.

DailyMailClickbait · 11/05/2018 07:04

I had my entire posting history deleted under my old profile when Jeffrey happened. This was because I was one of the posters whose password was captured and as a result, my personal email was also hacked.

LaSqrrl · 11/05/2018 07:15

I think she was targeted in rl by MRAs, which is why she left - I don’t think it was real mn posters. Just trolling vicious vindictive MRAs.

You would be wrong. Dead wrong.
Certainly, I was not over here reading (regularly) back then - but D had guts beyond belief and could stand up to any man (she was in so many threads going up against very creepy/abusive BDSMers elsewhere, for years). Betrayal from the class she was defending, something that hurt her deeply. Hope those women are proud of themselves? I just kick myself that I did not come here earlier to help her.

Dittany was waving red flags about the trans stuff back in 2011/2012

Yes, but the real concern started many years before that 'behind the scenes', on private boards. We watched, analysed, discussed. The only real surprise, is just how quickly they got to where they are now. Although actually, the unbridled misogyny and still having female followers, really astounds me. I guess some women are just really not very smart. Or they are just collaborators looking after their own asses, not terribly feminist, and kindly remove yourselves from feminist circles, because you are indeed, anti-feminist. Also, I see who you are, and will react accordingly.

LaSqrrl · 11/05/2018 07:16

FTR, those who diss Dittany, will not be well received by me.

CoteDAzur · 11/05/2018 07:21

"Betrayal from the class she was defending"

That wasn't quite what happened.

OrchidInTheSun · 11/05/2018 07:25

She's disingenuous and frequently misrepresents what other posters have said to make a point Bertrand. It's unpleasant behaviour, even if she is unfailingly polite. And what is really irritating to me is that she's intelligent enough not to need to do it.

BertrandRussell · 11/05/2018 07:30

I can only say what I've seen.

People who are opposed to pornography and prostitution tend to be unpopular on Mumsnet.

UrsulaPandress · 11/05/2018 07:43

Well this has gone a bit weird.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/05/2018 07:51

Odd how perceptions differ - but I guess I mostly only come across those subjects on FWR where many of the clearest voices might elsewhere be branded 'SWERFs' or even more ridiculously 'sex negative'.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/05/2018 07:52

Well this has gone a bit weird.

At least it's evidence that there is no hive mind.

QuentinSummers · 11/05/2018 07:53

lass I know the thread you are talking about and you are talking utter bullshit. Buffy used a different username because of the shit she was getting on here, some posters (like you) would jump on everything she said and give her a hard time and she wanted a break from that. That is not the same as sock puppeting. Loads of posters have multiple usernames.

I know buffy irl and she is absolutely lovely and amazing. She is as inspirational in real life as her posts on here suggest. I'm gutted she felt she had to dereg from here and I don't appreciate you putting the boot in to someone who can't defend themselves.

FWIW I think you post a lot of sense and I enjoy reading your stuff. But this side of you isn't nice.

20nil · 11/05/2018 08:00

Lovely to see so many familiar names.

ReluctantCamper · 11/05/2018 08:11

I would say Mumsnet is solidly anti porn. It's the first place I came across the idea that most porn is images of abuse.

Dittany? No never! What bloody planet do you live on, it is not this one!

UrsulaPandress · 11/05/2018 08:18

See. I don't know if posters are talking about Buffy or Dittany.
