The paedophiles have done this before - they tried to hang off gay rights back in the 70s (and into the 80s I think) and it took a really shocking amount of time for them to be shaken off. They have been watching and learning ever since, as this document shows. We have to remember that they're usually intelligent, well educated, well connected, well off men who understand what they're doing is wrong, and want to do it anyway.

The myth of the sad, socially conscious paedophile is really surprisingly pervasive. A close friend of mine told me about how sad it was, she had seen a documentary about a poor man who just didn't want to hurt children! He reported himself to the police! Asked them to lock him up! He hadn't done anything yet, wasn't a threat to himself, didn't have concrete plans, so it wasn't legal to arrest or detain him. And so when he later raped a child, it wasn't his fault, see? He did all he could. She had genuine sympathy for him, and was uncomfortable when I pointed out, but he raped. a. child. He wasn't a wild animal, he is still ostensibly a man. Children aren't easy to get access to, they don't grow on trees. You can't accidentally rape a child.

I work in prison research and this kind of narrative is so easy, because it seems like its logical, easy to understand. These poor men, so persecuted for something they cannot help. But they are a child rapists - the only outcome of this is child rape, child abuse, child grooming. There is no ethical paedophilia, even non-contact child abuse is child abuse, it traumatises children and ruins childhoods. They want to shift the narrative away from the children they hurt and onto themselves as victims of some ineffable desire, something out of their control.

There was an article in the guardian recently that was about people seeking help for paedophilic thoughts and how great this is, but it really unnerved me because it read like a stop-smoking article. Its good to give up bad habits! But when that bad habit is GETTING AROUSED BY CHILD RAPE we need to call out what it is, not couch it in hippy dippy language and pretend its all normal and try and see both sides.

The paedophile community wants us to get bogged down in all this, because it makes their own job easier, and I'm glad this document has come out, because it shows that we're not crazy for thinking this is happening.

Yes it's absurd litereally - I bet your friend wouldn't feel sorry for someone who said that he tried really hard not to rape a woman but when it's a child molester it's all about the feelz.

therealposieparker · 02/05/2018 11:27

@WasIEverBored YY. This was messed up and at the same time my husband and I were watching a really good cop thing with a "nice" paedophile and selling a child.

LangCleg · 02/05/2018 11:40

For me, the key issue is this: if your political activism - whatever it is about - requires the dilution of safeguarding frameworks in child protection, then your political activism is shit and if you don't rethink it you can fuck the fuck off to the far side of fuck.

And if you think the dilution of safeguarding frameworks in child protection is not an appropriate topic for robust discussion at a parenting website, you can also fuck the fuck off to the far side of fuck.

The internet is changing our lives in ways we never thought possible.

In the past if you had a perversion, you sat in your house and believed you had a perversion. If you made a great deal of effort to find material, you could, but it was difficult (could be intercepted in post) and you still thought you were an oddity.

Now, however, you can watch what you like at the click of a button. And, hey, there are quite a few like-minded people out there. Maybe you’re not so weird. Others say it’s normal and you’re being hounded by bigots. You’re not a pervert at all, just one of the many shades of normal.

Dancingleopard · 02/05/2018 12:01

I watched Dr Christian yesterday and I thought he was a complete arsehole. I felt he was quite agressive and confrontational when the women panellist aired their views. It really changed my views on him. He was right - every fucker was wrong. Scary.

And I agree this is already happening. I watched a program about a ‘poor’ pedophile who never acted on his impulses. He was the ‘nice’ kind. Seemed like a nice chap... Hmm

I really do think (with out sounding crazy) this horrible situation is far more worse than we could ever imagine. It really doesn’t help when you air your concerns and you get posters jumping down your thought of accusing you of accusing men all pedophiles.

And that booklet is sickening. I really do worry for my kids

Dancingleopard · 02/05/2018 12:02

Irma very true

therealposieparker · 02/05/2018 12:05

Dr Christian made shitty comments about breast feeding, I've had his cards marked for a while.

doctorcuntybollocks · 02/05/2018 12:07

Some people believe that anything that feeds the penis is good.

Ekphrasis · 02/05/2018 12:11

kate I've just read your accounts of your experiences on a previous thread and I'm so sorry for what you've been through.

I'm finding all this very difficult; surely there are official investigators through the police or similar who are aware or monitoring this? It's certainly highlighting why child protection is so very important in schools, regular updates, training etc; what worries me is that this kind of stuff is off the radar.

I was at Safeguarding training last night, we were discussing the new version of the Children’s Act (Keeping Children Safe, 2018, I think) a piece of legislation that has slipped through is that Local Safeguarding Boards are going to be disbanded and replaced with Safeguarding Partnerships, and there will be no representatives from Schools/education sitting on the boards. None of us could comprehend how on earth this got through! What the hell is happening?!

OvaHere · 02/05/2018 12:24

WTF Sparta

So who exactly is going to be in the partnership? How can it be that schools and education have no role there?

OnTheList · 02/05/2018 12:24

yes, I never understood why there was the whole link between gay people and paedophiles until someone mentioned PIE on here. Piggybacking off a genuine rights movement..and being successful. Sickening really. But it will continue. These depraved sickos (meaning paedos, not gay people..incase I am screenshotted and taken out of context) will never stop trying to legitimize their 'sexual orientation' Sad

lightthedarkness · 02/05/2018 12:25

Unbelievable that organisations don't withdraw / change their guidelines when it is pointed out that they undermine safeguarding guidelines. What's wrong with a "we hadn't realised this might undermine a parent's ability to safeguard their child" or "we didn't really consider the issue of girls /women having the right to consent before showering with a naked man so we'll review".
Concerns (like those mentioned here) are drowned out by the TRANSPHOBIC / #NODEBATE klaxon going off. A bit like the MP Stephen Doughty going on and on about his allegation of 'click bait' headlines on one of Janice Turner's articles in the Times and totally ignoring all the well evidenced issues in the bloody article.

People need to write about this to their MPs - and keep copies so that they can't say they weren't told when the inevitable happens.

Dancingleopard · 02/05/2018 12:26

Not sure if this is thread related but we watched a program on Sunday (family show) and a young boy (about 13/14 I think) sang a song but he was heavily made up with female make up. Heavy fake eye lashes, HD eyebrows, caked on foundation and highlighter, heavy lipstick and liner.

It just looked so odd and made me so uncomfortable because all of the girl guests that were around his age did not have any make up applied like this - so why the over exaggerated female make up? Young girls don’t even look like that so why make him look like a drag queen. Why make a young boy look like a mature woman ?

My dd2 (5) was convinced he was a girl and when I insisted he was a boy she was really confused.

terryleather · 02/05/2018 12:27

Some pps mentioned schools being given guidance that parents do not need to be informed of their child's transition, this would seem to be the case in Scotland.

"Supporting Transgender Young People: Guidance For Schools In Scotland" is a 60 page document endorsed by 16 local authorities and is jaw dropping in its disregard for safeguarding and the overriding of consent especially wrt girls.

www.lgbtyouth.org.uk/media/1293/supporting-transgender-young-people-digital-version.pdf

Amongst its recommendations are "if a transgender young person wants to share a room with other young people who share their gender identity they should be able to do so" and that there is no reason for the parents or carers of the other young people to be informed.

Not disclosing a young person's trans status to their family unless the young person gives permission.

That schools "Not refuse to let a trans young person use a facility (toilet). This could be viewed as unlawful conduct"

Seemingly unquestioning acceptance of the use of binders and blockers.

And that's just for starters...

ThisisSparta · 02/05/2018 12:30

OvaHere

Safeguarding Partnerships are going to have board members from Social Services, NHS, and Police.

The training I was at last night was for School Designated Safeguarding Leads so we were all from education, and there are so many reasons why having no one from education on the boards is a terrible idea we couldn’t actually believe that this was true!

Wanderabout · 02/05/2018 12:30

Sparta do you have any more info about the new 'safeguarding boards'?

OnTheList · 02/05/2018 12:31

All we know about safeguarding seems to be totally thrown out of the window as soon as the word 'trans' is mentioned. Its quite odd, and scary tbh.

OvaHere · 02/05/2018 12:32

That's really shocking Sparta. I cannot understand what thought processes led to that.

Wanderabout · 02/05/2018 12:32

Is this the same thing:

Certainly appears to be the case.

Thisissparta that's very concerning indeed. I don't see how that can operate in practise?
