Danielle Muscato is clearly a troubled person. An ordained minister who campaigns for atheism. A diagnosed gender dysphoric whose gender identity (what they feel like) does not match their gender expression (what they look like). Rejected by their family and society in general. Inconsistent in their arguments. Activism by soundbite.

Danielle is formally diagnosed and I will refer to them as female for the benefit of their mental health if that is what she needs. I will not judge or make comments about how she looks because I'm a woman with thinning hair, chin bristles and stubbly legs and the fact I don't own a mascara does not define my womanhood.

I strongly object to Danielle taking space in a women's refuge but that is the choice of those running the refuge, not me. I would strongly object if Danielle was a medical worker and appeared to carry out an intimate procedure when I had requested a female nurse. I strongly object to women's rights being afforded to those who self-identify as women. In this case Danielle has been diagnosed with a mental health condition.

Can we please stop focussing on what some transwomen (esp. Danielle) look like? I think we can all agree that looking 'pretty' should not be a prerequisite to womanhood? In fact isn't half the problem that some men claim to be transwomen because they like 'pretty things' and making themselves look 'pretty'.

Thank you - I despair at this sort of focus on appearance and I feel like I'm repeating myself over and over. I'm happy to bore people though if it means focusing on the real problems!

Unless the booking sheet I saw has been photoshopped, Wilson County Sheriff's Department lists Moscato's personal details as "race / sex: W / M".

Edit: but under "Personal information: Gender: Female". How are two sets of details reconciled?

I don't think the focus on Muscato's looks is necessarily about body-shaming; it just exposes the warped, debasing batshittery of those who claim not using female pronouns for Muscato is hatred and violence. A receptionist or shop assistant could be disciplined for failing to instantly recognise Muscato as a woman. It's a totalitarian power-trip.

Having a mental health condition doesn't change someone's sex. Eating disorders are a mental health condition but nobody is rewriting reality for the entire of society around those unfortunate people.

I always thought that everyone who says they believe TWAW would know that gender is an invisible feeling and no-one can tell anyone's gender using 'conventional' signifiers and it's only by asking that you'd know. That's why I'm surprised that so many people buy into it! But it seems only half the message has gotten across.

Clearly no-one would know DM, or anyone, is trans or cis unless they asked (which is a problematic in itself) or DM declared it or was somehow recognisable.

(My post was really aimed at the 'my eyes!' type remarks).

Re appearance, I think comments are less about 'prettiness' or lack thereof and more about the beard and male-pattern baldness.

It is such a flimsy defence. Or… were they pulled up and they feel they were then subject to a search of their vehicle once police realized they were trans. I would see how that could possibly be argued if the police were shown not to search every car they pulled up… otherwise it is a ludicrous assertion.

They’ve Tweeted that they were initially pulled over for their BLM t-shirt, and then the police clocked that they’re trans from their driving licence. Because you certainly wouldn’t know it from their presentation.

My knowledge of meth is limited to Breaking Bad. I suppose if a chemistry teacher can become a terrifying drug lord then an, "activist" could too

I never watched Breaking Bad, I think it's because I've known people who got caught up in meth and I hated it being glamorized as a plot for a series. "Faces of Meth" is more like reality if anyone wants a peek.

After seeing the charges my theory based on tweeker behavior and they way things often occur here is that: DM went to Walmart and bought a bunch of chems for meth. See, nowadays they have ways of just shaking it up in a bottle and the police track purchases of these items. Either they tracked the purchases to the ID, or they followed DM from the store. It happens. I'm guessing he either had some on him or was observed shaking up a batch and they busted DM. /end theory

Meth also makes you paranoid. I've seen chronic users stare at empty cars and say that there are people inside watching them. So DM is not going to think 'fair cop, they saw me buy meth ingredients they track', DM's going to think they are targetting DM. Meth is also notorious for violence, mood swings and greatly exacerbating pre exisiting psychotic symptoms, which is why I don't cry when I see one of them taken out of circulation for a few.

Meth has torn apart parts of the midwest as badly as oxycodone has.
