Follow on thread regarding the data breach situation:
___

Dear MNHQ

I'm very grateful for the commitment to free speech you've publicly taken, and for Justine's courage this week.

A former disgruntled employee of MN is writing on Twitter about the 'transphobia' of MN staff, and calling you TERFs. She is showing a great deal of bias and intolerance towards women with feminist views, this may well be her honest opinion, which is no big deal I suppose, since she is no longer an employee.

At least, it isn't an issue until she calls a shout out to her
'friends who still work at MN' to report and take down posts by 'transphobic scum', by which she appears to be referring to any poster objecting to being called TERF by her friend.

Regardless of the personal views of the MNHQ staff, who should be as free to hold their own views as I am mine, I am disturbed that there may be a small contingent of employees who are invested in unfair moderation and will not be applying fair-handed principles, at least if the claims of this ex-employee are credible.

Can you please give posters some reassurance that the difficult job of fair-handed moderation isn't being abused by the 'friends' of ex-employees who are 'reporting it all' and taking down posts because any gender criticism means the poster is 'transphobic scum'?

Thank you.

Well as a small business owner who’s crapping themselves about making my company GDPR complient I actually find this very reassuring that if im ever found to be breaching it I can just post an apology on my blog.

Oh wait.

I am as disconcerted a most posters about the data theft but MN is really crazy sometimes. Three months ago, a nuclear war with NK was imminent, 4 weeks ago, Putin targeted a quintessential English market town with chemical agents, last week we were about to enter into a lethal war with Russia, and this week it's good old Emma, a privileged white girl getting into bed with TAs and stealing the crown jewels 3 screen prints from a MN server.

It never gets boring on here, that's for sure Grin.

FloraFox · 20/04/2018 12:25

JustOneMan I think if she was a "brave" TIM, you'd be right, especially if she gets arrested. But as a common or garden woman, the TRAs will have her back in the handmaiden box as soon as this has passed.

MrsFogi · 20/04/2018 12:30

I am concerned that MN ensures it tightens up its procedures etc. But I will not be leaving MN for this or asking for my date to be removed etc etc. I am extremely grateful to MN for being one of the only places that still allows freedom of speech re gender-id issues (and I would be happy to stand behind any of my posts on the issue in my own name (I would be more concerned about my posts about embarrassing stuff on some other boards over the years not being anonymous)).
I suspect the TRAs haven't realised that it would be much more dangerous to close down this little area of the internet where we can talk about such issues because I suspect that many more women would get out in the real world and discuss the point if they could not vent about it here.

They're waiting for an estate agent to get back to them about the value of Justine's house before they go to print.

Funny because true.

I've only recently joined Mumsnet so I don't know any of the personalities that I'm sure are on here. I do know that Justine is in a really difficult position at the moment. Like any of us she may make mistakes in how she responds, pressure can do that. She needs support now, as I say I don't know who is who on here but I hope the big names especially come out and do just that.
There are laws to protect data but trust is paramount on these sites, I'm hoping that Emma H will feel the full force of the law for the distrust she has created.

I could see user's sign up details (so whatever you'd entered when you signed up - email, first name, surname, postcode, any additional info) all name change history, deleted posts, private messages.

All staff members can read private messages on here?

I am a moderator on another forum (not quite as big as this but decent sized especially at certain times of the year) and we can see IPs, email addresses, DOBs, and of course we can read deleted posts too. But we can only read private messages if someone reports them. Admin can read private messages though (however only ever do so when its really really necessary), which I think would probably be a better idea for here tbh, Justine and a few others maybe can read PMs..but not all staff members, thats insane! I think only Justine should have access to username histories also tbh

Also, sorry I did not RTFT before posting Blush Bad habit with very long threads

Sophia2222 · 20/04/2018 15:03

"I really advise a healthy amount of scepticism when it comes to any posts regarding the inner workings of HQ".

It does seem sensible. I wonder if the MN team are all looking at each other a little differently at the moment? I'd be inclined to hold a staff social, build up the morale a bit.

Transpeaked · 20/04/2018 15:11

You dong hold SPD about me??

Under various names to make it less easy to trace me (my abuser found me on here in the early days of my membership) I have posted

  1. where I lived overseas
  2. details of my children’s special needs and schooling
  3. details of my abuse 4)details of where I have lived including overseas 5)details of my beliefs 6)details of my mental and physical health

Add that all together and I’m identifiable - surely (especially in the context of my also being against self-I’d) this IS SPD?

I suppose that should go, under the TGLWGH thinking.

I don't know what to say about it, really. Confused

In my day they used to sellotape A4 posters to the pillars. Much safer.

Oh god.

No.

Make it stop. Or at least spell-check it. I'm watching with the sound off as there's only so much a middle-aged pedant can take.

spontaneousgiventime · 20/04/2018 16:06

Oops Grin

Mogleflop · 20/04/2018 16:08

You see, no offence, but that seems mean to me, and irrelevant. I could see that being seen as vindictive by others too?

spontaneousgiventime · 20/04/2018 16:10

Mogleflop Considering in the video EH claims to be honest, I think it's highly relevant.

Whatevszz · 20/04/2018 16:11

It's a cute film IMHO. She's obviously done a BAD thing recently, but this film makes me warm to her a bit. I wish that there wasn't an automatic desire to elevate rights of men who want to self ID as women, above the rights of natal women, and consider it a' diversity' cause!
