Labour Party Mass Resignation Letter

DJLippy · 18/04/2018 12:36

Mayday for Women are arranging a mass resignation letter. Quote

  • After this letter it is clearly not tenable to remain. We’re therefore finalising a collective resignation NOW. If want to resign over Self-ID dont do it alone - join other women! We’ll be sending letters of names into newspapers. Email name + CLP to [email protected]

We’ve so far gathered 300+ signatures of women who wish to resign if Lab formally agreed Self-ID for AWS. That’s now happened through this letter.
Women are so angry about this many wanted to leave months ago. We’d discussed a Women’s strike for May elections. #LabourLosingWomen *

I've added my name to this letter. I've never done anything like this - eeek!

Brilliant!!!
I wish I was a member just so I could sign it !!!

Kyanite · 22/04/2018 09:31

It's the Tories who are in power and currently making Self ID their policy. We're losing the NHS and hundreds of thousands are dying due to their policies. If you leave Labour, you can't create change in their policies. This is the worst thing you can do.

ReluctantCamper · 22/04/2018 09:37

Kyanite, every month when that bloody £4 leaves my bank account it grieves me. I will be so much happier when I have resigned and that money is going to an organisation that

a) is competent
b) doesn't hate women

Wanderabout · 22/04/2018 10:17

Kyanite the conservatives look like they will be keeping sex based exemptions and have recognised the GRA reforms are more complicated than they thought. A few senior conservatives have made comments that indicate they value women's rights and concerns should be discussed.

Although yes Maria Miller did propose the whole thing, ignore and ridicule women's concerns and appears to be stuck in denial of all this.

Labour's leader has said self-ID is their policy, implemented it 'ahead of the law' and broken promises to meet women to discuss it. He has been pictures with transwomen who openly advocate violence against women who disagree with self-Id and failed to condemn that.

Labour need to sort themselves out.

Lefty99 · 22/04/2018 12:36

It is possible to add your name to the mass resignation if you have already resigned. Please consider emailing your details to mayday4women - it will make the case stronger to show how many members have left over the party's utter contempt for women.

Lefty99 · 22/04/2018 12:41

I do have some sympathy with the people arguing to remain and fight from within. I've tried and found it utterly hopeless. They are brainwashed. I'm fuming that the party has completely abandoned women. Throwing the most vulnerable under the bus for a fucking trend. It's clear that Labour don't give a fuck about women's rights. At the bare minimum the party of so called 'grass roots democracy' you could expect them to defend free speech and condemn the violence and intimidation that women are facing. But no, the only MP willing to speak up is a male Tory. Tells you all you need to know about today's Labour party.

LaSqrrl · 22/04/2018 12:50

Men on the left will shaft women, just as quickly as men on the right.
Although lefty dudes will do it with 'concern face'. sweet

Wanderabout · 22/04/2018 13:39

Labour doesn't seem to stand for either freedom of speech or naming reality at the moment.

Without those, women's rights and vulnerable people's rights are screwed.

I'm not voting for that, thanks - it's on Labour to turn that around, not me to blindly support them.

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 28/04/2018 14:50

I was waiting for a response from my MP before making the decision. I'd sent her an e-mail a fortnight ago with the list of demands from Fair Play for Women, and a short personal story explaining why women only spaces were of vital importance to me.
Just got her reply. A preprinted postcard from the HoC saying my communication had been received and the contents noted.
So that's me withdrawing my support until they come to their senses. I wonder how many signatures are on the list now?

Wanderabout · 28/04/2018 15:29

Shock Stealth.

Strongly recommend making an appointment to actually talk through your concerns with your MP. It may have just been filtered by staff, and much easier to explain in person.

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 28/04/2018 17:49

Thanks Wander, I'll look into it.

sallyannemum · 28/04/2018 18:18

Wow this shows just how unaccepting of the Trans Community Mums Net is, The Labour party will be far better without bigots and transphobes,

IdentifiesAsMiddleAged · 28/04/2018 18:34

No reply to my letter, detailing my concerns, from my high profile female MP

Wanderabout · 28/04/2018 18:56

When did you write Identifies?

Wanderabout

I was about a month ago now

IdentifiesAsMiddleAged · 28/04/2018 19:05

Yep. Just checked. Almost exactly a month

DarthArts · 28/04/2018 19:14

I'm already on the list.

I see the activists are already putting the waving goodbye memes of joy on twitter and also saying it's an insignificant number compared to total party members.

The thing they aren't comprehending is that that number of people resigning membership over a single issue is afaik unprecedented.

I'm also sure that there are many more who have left already, plus those who might like to sign but are nervous about doing so.

On that note, I am pretty sure that a) you can add your name if you have already left over this issue and 2) that there's another list of people who will leave but don't feel able to state their name - so they can say 300 named individuals plus x number of women who feel unable to disclose their identity.

DarthArts · 28/04/2018 19:18

Sally it's not a MN initiative.

It's been organised by a separate group entirely, but some MNetters have taken the decision to join that action.

I just think we need to be very clear on that point wrt the premise of your post.

Snakie · 28/04/2018 19:22

Another who has recently left, over self-ID and anti-semitism.
But this is a great idea.

TERFragetteCity · 28/04/2018 19:25

Wow this shows just how unaccepting of the Trans Community Mums Net is, The Labour party will be far better without bigots and transphobes,

Sorry but no bigots are leaving, and no transphobes are leaving.

Women are leaving because of SELF ID, not about people with GRCs.

HTH.

TERFragetteCity · 28/04/2018 19:26

If you have recently left, in the last 6 months, over this issue - please send your name to be added to the list as you are probably still listed as a member.

BossWitch · 28/04/2018 19:33

If I'd ever been a member I would leave.

As it is, I've voted for them in the last 3 general elections, but there's zero chance of my doing so again anytime soon. Not while this current shit show is on going.

Politically homeless at the moment. Not something I'd have predicted 5 years ago.

Wanderabout · 28/04/2018 19:39

I got as far as trying to fill in the membership application but as I didn't self-identify as a woman I had no way of joining. There was no box that matched the way I identify.
