Labour Party Mass Resignation Letter

DJLippy · 18/04/2018 12:36

Mayday for Women are arranging a mass resignation letter. Quote

  • After this letter it is clearly not tenable to remain. We’re therefore finalising a collective resignation NOW. If want to resign over Self-ID dont do it alone - join other women! We’ll be sending letters of names into newspapers. Email name + CLP to [email protected]

We’ve so far gathered 300+ signatures of women who wish to resign if Lab formally agreed Self-ID for AWS. That’s now happened through this letter.
Women are so angry about this many wanted to leave months ago. We’d discussed a Women’s strike for May elections. #LabourLosingWomen *

I've added my name to this letter. I've never done anything like this - eeek!

Well done Lippy! I've signed up too! At least you're not on you're own with over 300 of us to keep you company Grin I think I will breathe a huge sigh of relief once I've finally left.

DJLippy · 18/04/2018 21:11

Why does social conditioning not apply to women? #hypocrisy

Err, not quite sure if I'm still a member or not? Confused Gonna find out and, if I am, I'll definitely sign the letter.

trans1976 · 18/04/2018 23:12

Since when did mumsnet become the spokesperson for all women? You don't speak for me.

Welcome to Mumsnet. Are you having a lovely time?

On the topic of the letter, I was already on the list so have reconfirmed today.m

busyboysmum · 19/04/2018 07:53

@trans1976 I'm not sure what your point is? Unless you want to sign the letter move on.

I've already left Labour or I would be signing too. Told them my reasons and also told canvassers when they came round the other day. Apparently quite a few people had said similar.

Ohforfoxsakereturns · 19/04/2018 07:57

Another who has already resigned her membership, or I would be signing.

Bespin · 19/04/2018 07:58

If you choose to disenfranchise yourself thats fine. But then don't wonder why no one is listening to you shouting from the sidelines.

LifelongVaginaOwner · 19/04/2018 08:04

The majority of people aren't members of a political party. They're not disenfranchised

SpartacusOfEtruria · 19/04/2018 08:06

How is it disenfranchising to leave a particular political party? It does not remove you from the electoral register. You are still free to vote and to join another party if you wish to.

TERFragetteCity · 19/04/2018 09:11

@trans1976 I'm not sure what your point is

They are posting goady posts to try and get an anti-trans response to show how anti-trans Mumsnet is.

There are a few around at the moment.

DJLippy · 19/04/2018 11:27

Impressed by the silent treatment ladies. I've seen lot's of those lately but people aren't taking the bait.

Have never been a member of the labour party so there's no resigning for me. BUT I have always voted for them in the past. Not going to now. The anti-Semitism and the blatant misogyny is too much for me.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 19/04/2018 11:36

Too late DJ, already done.

Are there any women left in Labour ? Wink

MrsUnderwood · 19/04/2018 11:55

I've already resigned or I would have signed it. Not just over the anti-woman stance: Brexit and the ant-Semitism did it for me too.

AngryAttackKittens · 19/04/2018 11:57

Probably a good idea not to use words if you don't know what they mean, Bespin.

MightyMagnificentScarfaceClaw · 19/04/2018 11:57

I emailed the campaign as soon as I saw the decision. When is the letter going?

SheCameToStay · 19/04/2018 11:59

I have already resigned from Labour Party otherwise would have added my name to your letter. I did vote for them in last election but probably won't vote for them next time. I am a lifelong Labour supporter but cannot support the Self ID madness. Labour has lost the plot.

AngryAttackKittens · 19/04/2018 12:00

Are there any women left in Labour ?

Well, there's Claire, who's been backpacking in Thailand for the past 6 months and who just got back to find that her local CLP now consists of 5 beardy blokes shouting at each other about who's most loyal to Corbyn and Dave, who occasional tries to raise the subject of austerity. At which point the beardy blokes call him a Blairite. It's all very exciting!

(cries)

LangCleg · 19/04/2018 12:01

I had already gone, but good luck with the letter and the numbers!

(By the way - it's actually quite difficult to leave. I cancelled my direct debit and emailed my CLP to let them know. They didn't respond. I emailed membership to delete my data. They sent me a letter expressing surprise about the cancelled DD. I'm still getting membership emails.)

Beyond11cisRetinol · 19/04/2018 12:36

Anyway, re... "But then don't wonder why no one is listening to you shouting from the sidelines" - that would only work if women were being listened to from the "field", wouldn't it...? If people felt listened to, they wouldn't be retreating to the "sidelines" in the first place!

TIMoPLOP · 19/04/2018 13:16

I'm on the list too. I'm in good company.

MsMcWoodle · 19/04/2018 13:20

Left a long while ago, but do wish I could leave again.
I did leave the Greens over this though.

mimivanne · 19/04/2018 13:49

Lang

Someone in membership told me that it takes approx 6 months to come off the membership lists.
I resigned about four months ago and have just had a pleading letter asking me to reconsider and re- join.
Pff

jachshund · 22/04/2018 09:25

I used to be a member for many years and have decided against renewing. Showed this thread to two other mums yesterday. They were labour voters too.
