@Hypermice. Absolutely. Abuse of any kind is unacceptable.

I lived in Liverpool during the reign of Derek Hatton and militant tendency.
This is the same shit, different arse.
We certainly live in interesting times.

It's okay - ladies. I've had it explained that this is actually being done by Corbyn's critics just to cause trouble Hmm. And that the labour party just needs to get rid of centrist MPs - especially Jess Phillips.

They are all quite insane Angry

birdsdestiny · 18/04/2018 16:43

Its not smearing, the issue is this section of the Labour party have never had any scrutiny because until now they had no influence. To be brutal no one cared what they were up to. Now people, the media etc are shining a light on them, it's no good blaming that light for the fact that people don't like what they see.

Me too! I feel absolutely livid that I have been taken in yet again!

Clearly no one should receive threats or dead birds. But we need to be mindful that the dead bird at least could not have been sent by a Momentum member. It arrived at the Mann's abode in 2012. Momentum did not exist then.

My village lies within the constituency where John Mann is the local MP (ex-mining community, very depressed and run down). It is well known within our village who sent the dead bird, and he did it because John Mann wouldn't (aka couldn't) get involved in overturning his claim for disability benefits and eventual eviction.
Every community has an individual who is well known for being a bit odd,- he was a major hoarder which resulted in a private prosecution by the fire brigade and eviction by the local authority), serial complainer, ASBO'd to the hilt, no personal hygiene, and a well known and unashamed BNP member.

FermatsTheorem · 04/05/2018 14:14

Welcome to Mumsnet, Carjfree. How nice of you to have bumped an old thread as your first contribution. Are you perhaps a Bromentum-ite feeling peeved that Labour didn't romp away with the local election results the way you'd hoped?

Anything to say about the threats of rape? It wasn't like there was just one, one-off instance that Mann talked about in his speech.

carljfree · 04/05/2018 14:15

In terms of "that mural" which we are told was anti-Semitic...does anyone here know how many of the men pictured in it are/were Jewish? Is it everyone's assumption that of the six sitting men sitting around the table, all are representations of Jewish financiers. I am in no way condoning anti-Semitism, but if the artist's intention to was portray a Jewish conspiracy, does it not seem strange that four of the central characters (including Rockefeller) are not Jewish? Perhaps as he claims he was merely drawing attention to the exploitation of the world's poor by a multi-ethnic group of capitalists? I have no way of knowing if the artist is an anti-Semite. But I have consistently carried out research behind the headlines as I do not always trust the way that information is being presented. Sometimes the facts of the matter are at variance with how the story is presented.

FermatsTheorem · 04/05/2018 14:17

Bloody hell, there's scraping the bottom of the barrel, and then there's keeping going all the way to Australia... Yup, I was right. Desperation over not getting the landslide you'd anticipated.

carljfree · 04/05/2018 14:22

Hi Fermat's theorum. I am neither a member of Momentum nor of the Labour Party. Of course I abhor rape threats and I hope that the police prosecute anyone who has carried out such vile threats. It is just that there needs to be separation of facts and fiction. The dead bird incident is being portrayed in the media and on here as something carried out by Corbyn supporters. I apologise if my comments were construed as meaning that I in anyway approve of rape threats or of threats of violence or murder. There is no place for this in any walk of life including political discourse. I condemn threats against Jewish MPs as well as against non-Jewish MPs. Of course that is a far more serious matter than inaccuracies on social media. But I find it hard to let inaccuracies go I am afraid.

carljfree · 04/05/2018 14:28

Hi again, Fermat's Theorum. Feel free to keep making assumptions. We live in a democracy and so it is the prerogative of anyone to make assumptions and express opinions. I prefer to go for facts and evidence myself. You may have missed the bit where I said

"I have no way of knowing if the artist is an anti-Semite".

I have seen the newspaper stories and have seen an article about the composition of the characters in the mural. I apologise if querying the prevailing narrative upsets you. If you have evidence that the artist is indeed an anti-Semite then feel free to share it. Or similarly feel free to stick with opinions.

LassWiADelicateAir · 04/05/2018 21:24

The mural looked like something produced by Julius Streicher. It was in the style of pre 1939 German anti-Jewish propaganda.

Any one who is familiar with Russian and German history will recognise the Soviet Communist hero type posters and German anti- semitic posters. I immediately thought of the latter.

FermatsTheorem · 04/05/2018 21:28

You and me and 99% of the world, Lass. I fail to see how anyone could look at it and not be reminded of that.

I'm still wondering where the new poster popped up from, and why.

boatyardblues · 04/05/2018 21:41

Delurking on this thread to salute Lass and Fermat’s wonderfully knowledgeable, evidence-based short shrift. I hate it when we get single issue ploppers.

KreigersClones · 04/05/2018 21:47

Apparently Corbyn regrets that he ‘didn’t look closer at the image at the time’.
I mean, how close do you need to get?
There’s also the fact he actually read and responded to the words ‘ Some of the older white Jewish folk in the local community had an issue with me portraying their beloved #Rothschild or #Warburg etc as the demons they are.
I would say I can’t believe believe can are defending him, but I can. That pesky right wing media, using Corbyns own words to smear him with, how dare they?
2 legs bad, 4 legs good. Baa baa

xxyzz · 04/05/2018 22:11

Anyone else notice that carljfree has a posting style that is just like the much-missed claig?

What an astonishing coincidence.
