Another great article.

I just wish more journalists would cover this and ask the difficult questions.

MP's do need to be called to account on this.

So many when written to just issue trite meaningless waffle that fails to address the issue and even disclose their views.

We are talking about policy that impacts 52% of the population and most MP's don't have a public stance on this - yet ask them about pretty much anything else and they sure as hell have an opinion on it.

It's fucking disgraceful.

DarthArts · 17/04/2018 19:26

@Floisme

Given the state of the WEP I happily vote for the Mumsnet party :-)

Juells · 17/04/2018 19:28

All I can see in that Elizabeth Truss tweet is someone saying nothing. Being very careful to say nothing.

Floisme · 17/04/2018 19:49

That's true but at least she's opened her mouth.

SecretsRSecrets · 17/04/2018 19:53

@TheRoadtoTerfdom Good point. I think there are going to be many MNers getting their subscriptions thanks to this articleSmile

Thank you James!Wine

ArtemisRhodes · 17/04/2018 19:54

Winewinewinegin the person collecting the names can be contacted by Direct Messaging her on twitter @cattdeskatgmail

OlennasWimple · 17/04/2018 20:09

Hurrah, and thanks again James. A really well written article

Winewinewinegin · 17/04/2018 20:13

She openly backed Justine's stance on free speech and says she has an open mind.

We can't expect all MPs to understand all the issues already but they should be able and willing to give them a proper airing.

(Thanks for info on law thing Artemis)

Hi all,
We have deleted the piece as it's not quite cricket to just cut and paste an article like that, but as many people have posted, it is available on the Spectator website.

DontCisgenderMe · 17/04/2018 21:33

Another great article, James. Thank you.

boatyardblues · 17/04/2018 23:02

Another great article. 👏 Thank you James.

Voice0fReason · 17/04/2018 23:30

Excellent article

AgnesBadenPowell · 18/04/2018 00:00

Even Girlguiding's policy got a mention! I'm very grateful to Justine, James Kirkup and Fraser Nelson and the Sunday Times for giving us the the space to have these discussions. We shouldn't need to be grateful - but in the current climate it takes boldness and principles to simply state biological facts.

Janie143 · 18/04/2018 00:02

There a reply on that Twitter thread from someone with a Disney avatar which reminds me of this

How many of you have read Peter Pan? Do you remember Tinker Bell? Do you remember her saying that every time someone says that they do not believe in fairies, a fairy dies?

Polynerd · 18/04/2018 00:48

The Spectator is absolutely to be applauded for printing James Kirkup's stuff but there's no denying that it's an odd beast. I got a subscription recently on the back of listening to Isabel Hardman and Katy Balls on the podcast, but the actual mag is all Rod Liddle and Taki Sad

MargeH · 18/04/2018 07:22

It's an eclectic mix of contributors, I'll give you that. The comments below the line are usually pretty harsh though - not many feminists there, from what I've read.

OnTheList · 18/04/2018 13:54

Fantastic article.

Two of the replies on Elizabeth Truss tweet say that MN ban transwomen for no reason Hmm Because thats likely.

MissPiggysKarateChop · 18/04/2018 13:58

@TheRoadtoTerdom

If James were here I would want to thank him for writing this piece (and the others) and The Spectator for publishing it and I would like him to know that I have just this minute subscribed to The Spectator to thank him and his Editor - we appreciate you writing about this issue.

Juells · 18/04/2018 14:04

that they do not believe in fairies, a fairy dies?

I had a laugh at that too. "literally kills trans women"

No, men literally kill trans women, women, other men...

Ereshkigal · 18/04/2018 20:17

Someone has made an twitter account claiming that they were insulted and unfairly banned from MN when as a trans identified male they started a thread asking for breastfeeding support for the child they had fathered.

Ereshkigal · 18/04/2018 20:18

I imagine they were trolling then and are trolling now.

DodoPatrol · 18/04/2018 20:27

Someone DID come on asking for trans breastfeeding support. I think we all assumed they were telling porkies, given that sounded wildly not-good from the baby's point of view, and it was reported accordingly.

SophoclesTheFox · 18/04/2018 20:37

I remember that breast feeding thread.

Couldn't have been more clear that it was wank fodder if the poster had posted a picture of himself, winkie in hand, pressing refresh.
