‘Male rage’ article in Guardian today

Anyone read this article in the Guardian today? It was pretty interesting but I couldn’t really focus because the first few paragraphs really boiled my piss. The assertion that, until now, no one has noticed that most extremist violence is committed by men and that this is some kind of revelation. I’m pretty sure most women everywhere spotted this about 500 years ago. But what the author really means is that no men noticed or acknowledged this. Ugh.

A lot of deleted comments on there. Wonder what they were saying.

doctorcuntybollocks · 08/04/2018 23:19

What they share is their sex, not their gender.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 08/04/2018 23:20

What? men commit most of the extremist violence

Noooooo,

Gosh when did that start?

Why hasn't anyone mentioned it

Goodness

Go guardian for pointing it out...yay you!!

PrivatePie · 08/04/2018 23:42

Someone's blunted their coloured crayons for this article.

Most violent crime is committed by people belonging to one sex = men.

Nobody has ever been violent because of their gender.

NotBadConsidering · 09/04/2018 00:07

I know exactly what the deleted comments said before they were deleted because I read that article and refreshed as soon as it was published. They were nearly all removed for saying sex not gender.

PrivatePie · 09/04/2018 00:55

So many deleted comments they may as well not have allowed them anyway.

The Guardian has become the left version of the Daily Mail.

bluescreen · 09/04/2018 00:59

Gender? Hmm. I doubt it's simply because of the way people self-identified. Whatever else could be a common denominator?

bluescreen · 09/04/2018 01:01

Oh, I get it! People who are inclined to behave that way tend to identify like that!
No?

The Guardian has become the left version of the Daily Mail

Except it is only left-wing in its imagination.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 09/04/2018 02:03

Yes, and thought it was so bloody obvious!
As bloody usual. Comments closed very very quickly, and lots of deletions.

Trumpdump · 09/04/2018 02:07

The once great Guardian is a pathetic echo-chamber these days. I actually think they have MORE bias than The Daily Mail!

TerfinUSA · 09/04/2018 02:12

Ah yes gender. All those violent trans men we've heard about.

Oh wait, no.

Absolute bollocks.

Male violence is universal and it is biological. That's the commonality between Muslim extremists and white skinheads. Biology. Men in Papua New Guinea still rape and kill, so do those in Germany, Iran etc

bluescreen · 09/04/2018 02:27

I am seriously trying not to have the rage. Because I am a nice person who likes to give the benefit of the doubt.

Except there is no bloody room for doubt here, is there?

bluescreen · 09/04/2018 02:32

Ah, the rage. On MN so more often imagined than actually carried out.

I had a similar conversation with a room full of Male academics recently. They were discussing religious extremists and talking about how it was mostly men who carried out terrorist attacks. I mentioned that it was hardly surprising, men are the main perpetrators of violence they just use different reasons for it. Such as religion, football, gang/territorial related whatever, it’s just an excuse for men to be violent.

They all looked at me as this was some kind of revelation, as if it had never occurred to them before. It’s as if they had never connected the dots of all these issues boiling down to male violence. It really struck me as weird, it was quite an uncomfortable conversation, I think they took it quite personally as if I was accusing all of them. I still feel weird thinking about it.

No idea who your mean heater ton. Your intellect has trumped mine.

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2018 06:09

And of course namalt. But that is used to shut down any discussion of the actual issues.

LizzieSiddal · 09/04/2018 06:42

But why would they delete comments saying “it’s sex, not gender”? It is truly Orwellian.

LarryUnderwood · 09/04/2018 07:39

That’s interesting about the deleted comments. The Guardian really is just a rag nowadays isn’t it?

OP posts:
Helmetbymidnight · 09/04/2018 08:11

it is the fact that “ever-growing number of young men” probably does not seem notable to most readers

Err- this is quite incredibly stupid on the authors part.

TerfsUp · 09/04/2018 08:21

The Guardian really is just a rag nowadays isn’t it?

Yep. It's identity politics writ large with the lunatics running the asylum.

The Guardian cannot die a horrible flaming financial death soon enough.

Hypermice · 09/04/2018 08:29

The Guardian has become the left version of the Daily Mail.

I’ve expoused this exact view quite a few times. I actually think it’s worse in some ways due to the hand wringing, blinkered views and total clamp down on any dissent. at least the Mail is aware it’s a rag and likes an argument (my god I’m defending the DM... the shame..)

The graun is a shadow of its previous self - there must be some decent journalists left in the ruins (Hadley freeman, the Cambridge Analytica investigative lot) but overall its a rag. Misogynistic, poorly sub edited and yes, as a pp says, in financial free fall.

It’s a shame because it used to be a brilliant paper with strong investigative and social reporting.

2rebecca · 09/04/2018 08:31

Not allowing comments or deleting offensive ones in the Guardian doesn't bother me. I'd rather they spent money on decent journalists with a variety of news not policing comments. They can publish a couple in the letters page. Debate the articles with friends or online here/ twitter etc
