bumblefuddy I am trying to catch up on this why would the suemepaddy thing scare the accused in this case?

thedancingbear · 06/04/2018 15:19

yyy to all this stuff about rugby culture.

not quite the same but when I was at oxbridge around 20 years ago, there were two rape allegations against rowers in the college first eight during the course of my three-year degree. I have it on good authority that one of the allegations was definitely true and I presume the other was too. Definitely something pretty deep seated going on there - they were all hyper-macho alpha male wankers.

Does anyone have a photo of the Telegraph ad?

NotTakenUsername · 06/04/2018 15:31

Thank you

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 06/04/2018 15:34

tootl - the #suemepaddy has, presumably, shocked him with its scale and the very evident and widespread scorn and contempt there is for him on social media. The day after his lawyers threatened to sue anyone retweeting #IBelieveHer, #suemepaddy was one of the top-trending hashtags in Ireland and Northern Ireland. This, supported by the protests and the knowledge that this advert was coming out, will have made him realise that his initial arrogance and threats of litigation badly misjudged the mood of the country in response to the verdict. Coupled with the fact that his future as an Ulster and Ireland player is currently being reviewed, I expect he is now desperately trying to regain some semblance of credibility.

HRHPrincessMegan · 06/04/2018 16:31

The only way back into the sport for either PJ & SO is if this outrage fades and media coverage falls away. What club or country could possibly want them now? Magnificent work getting the ads out, hopefully there are sufficient funds for follow ups.

NotTakenUsername · 06/04/2018 16:39

HRHPrincessMegan That crowdfunding was for the one specific advert and the donations stopped just after the target was reached. I imagine there would be support for a continued campaign.

Chaosandchocolate · 06/04/2018 17:08

I think they're about to cover this on Radio 4 just now (PM).

Chaosandchocolate · 06/04/2018 17:56

I hope no one tuned in to radio 4 based on my post. I must have misheard. Blush
I'm pretty clued up on Russian espionage now.

NotTakenUsername · 06/04/2018 18:06

I did! Very interesting actually, but totally irrelevant to this subject!

Chaosandchocolate · 06/04/2018 18:10

Oh no. I'm so sorry!

sashh · 06/04/2018 18:10

It's on now

EightdaysaweekIloveu · 06/04/2018 18:21

So Paddy has finally come out with another statement, too little too late and I would imagine it is only because his rugby career is affected.

EightdaysaweekIloveu · 06/04/2018 18:25

Whoops sorry I'm a bit late. You already have it covered.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 06/04/2018 18:39

Even the normally-deranged commenters on the Daily Mail site can see through the lies of this putrid little toad. And I apologize to all toads out there which are of infinitely more value than this useless creature. Fuck off Jackson!

Totallymyownperson · 06/04/2018 18:55

I wish I was on twitter now. I could go in there and tweet #idon'tbelievehim a million times so it trend

treaclesoda · 06/04/2018 19:06

Notice the stress on him betraying his “family’s” values. His family, particularly his mother, was coming in for heavy criticism. They’re pissed with him.

I don't have any respect for Paddy Jackson or his family but I have to admit that I do find it frustrating that his mother has been bearing the brunt of the criticism of his family. It's always the way, isn't it? It's kind of ironic that so many people (including me) are so furious about the way women are treated in society and yet even amongst that group there are those who feel that a woman must be culpable in some way.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 06/04/2018 19:14

Totally agree treacle. It’s always the Mothers that are held accountable for raising these men. What about the men who should have taught them to be men?? Their fathers! You see it on MN too to a lesser degree in thread about lazy husbands who piss on the floor. “Send him back to his mother, she didn’t do her job properly”

Wasn't she walking in to court with him? Not sure I would be.

I don't know if she has said anything, in the CE case his mother hounded the victim as much as anyone.

His whole family accompanied him into court.

OP posts:
treaclesoda · 06/04/2018 19:59

Yes, his mother accompanied him to court but so did the rest of his family. It's the singling out of his mother that annoys me, because I haven't read anything that has implied that she has behaved particularly badly apart from being supportive of her son.

I like to think that I'd be leaving my son to rot if my son behaved like hers did. And yet... I'm a mother, he's my son. Even if he did something appalling I'd probably still love him, because he's my son. (Disclaimer: my son is a small child, so I don't actually know how I'd react). Even arseholes, as PJ undoubtedly is, often have mums who love them.

treaclesoda · 06/04/2018 20:01

Although I hasten to add that my husband and I are raising our son to see women as sentient beings worthy of respect. Make no mistake, I would be utterly heartbroken if in 20 years I found myself as the mother of a man who had mistreated a woman.

sashh · 06/04/2018 20:06

Fair enough, yes unfair to pick out one parent.

As for supporting your child, Myra Hindley's mother visited her and wrote to her, that must have been hard for her (the mother).
