Another very disturbing development post trial ...

"Ulster and Ireland rugby player Paddy Jackson has said he intends to sue Labour Senator Aodhán Ó Riordáin for defamation after the politician sent a tweet in the wake of the Belfast rape trial verdicts."

www.irishtimes.com/news/crime-and-law/paddy-jackson-s-lawyers-say-he-intends-to-sue-aodh%C3%A1n-%C3%B3-riord%C3%A1in-over-tweet-1.3445578

You'll easily find a copy of the original tweet that caused offense.... can't believe he'd do that. I'm thinking I should sign up for twitter and post with#suemepaddy

I hope Riordan doesn’t back down either. His comment is spot on.

Kitchen sink: “Where’s your ones name from the paddy Jackson trial? It’s her that should be destroyed in the papers now. All yee feminists come at me I’ll throw the kitchen sink at ya.”

I don't think Jackson's legal team have made any new comments since the SueMePaddy thing went live. If he has any sense he will tell them to stop it all now, he will apologise and lie low.

He can't win with this; even if he won a few court cases, every win will be a loss in the overall war of trying to convince people he's a good guy Hmm

TheCraicDealer · 01/04/2018 14:16

I think with WhatsApp they're expecting us all to fall out and send screenshots to them to get back at each other. How else could they do it without a warrant or something?

That or it's a scare tactic. You decide....

kikashi · 01/04/2018 14:17

Thanks Zibidoo for the tweet.Don't quite see how it is libelous.

Jackson would be well advised to lay low and stay there.

PaulDacreRimsGeese · 01/04/2018 14:50

He's also going to have difficulty because it's possible to believe that both he and the victim were telling their truth. That is, that he reasonably believed she consented, even though she knew she didn't. This, under NI law, would mean he isn't guilty of rape.

It's therefore perfectly possible that this is the view the jury who didn't convict him took. I wonder if he'd sue them for defamation on that basis?

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/04/2018 14:52

I appreciate that this is tangential, but can someone please tell me how Senator O’Riordan’s first name is pronounced?

PaulDacreRimsGeese · 01/04/2018 14:54

I think it's what we would say as Aidan in English, just the original Irish spelling of it.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/04/2018 15:12

Ah, thank you

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 01/04/2018 15:25

Yes Aidan is about right. With his Fada it elongates the second a so it’s more like aydawn but I say it like Aidan. I’m in Ulster so it affects how things are pronounced and also, I’m lazy Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/04/2018 15:32
Grin
GrainneWail · 01/04/2018 16:00

It's pronounced A-awn (like in yawn).

Totallymyownperson · 01/04/2018 16:34

I thought I would never see someothing like that from a barrister

LassWiADelicateAir · 01/04/2018 16:41

Yes , Olding seems to get that point.

Totallymyownperson · 01/04/2018 16:55

Personally I am not buying this shit that olding is more remorseful than Jackson. If he was why was there a photo of him partying after the verdict on Jackson instagram account. He should have just gone home and lay low and away from his toxic friend

CarrotyO · 01/04/2018 17:53

I’m not buying his apology either. He’s sorry for her “perception” of events, a perception he disagrees with. So her perception is that she didn’t consent but he doesn’t agree with that. She believes it was painful and traumatic and resulted in lacerations to her vagina but he disagrees with that too...

HairyBallTheorem · 01/04/2018 17:57

You're right totally. Olding is every bit as much of a shit as Jackson, he's just a shit with a certain degree of low animal cunning who thinks that crocodile tears may serve his career, whereas Jackson is a shit and thick as mince

Hypermice · 01/04/2018 18:51

Olding has received better counsel, that’s all. That’s not an apology, it’s an ‘I’m sorry you feel that way.’

If one of my sons behaved like this I would be absolutely devastated. I hope to goodness I raise them as respectful and kind young men.

mikado1 · 01/04/2018 20:43

He pronounces it Ay-awn, more commonly Ay-dhawn (hard to phonetically spell the almost 'th' sounding of a D-vowel in Irish. Marian Keyes has also deleted her shared tweet.. if I was o.j. I'd have my head in my hands with this all over Twitter and the internet. The poor lad.

mikado1 · 01/04/2018 20:44

How come his only suing one man. What about the prominent female author whose name has gone out of my head. Sounds like the senator could counter sue PJ for sex discrimination
